I would be shocked to see Hayes get the Flames first and one of their young dmen after what we got for Zucc. I would be happy with their first and a third (if they own a third) and then hope for them to lose in the first round with their shaky goaltending to the Stars

Seriously though, am I the only one who doesn't have a live thread in here?

The Zucc thread is now a live thread for me, but not this one. Can we switch it back?

Expect a deal after our game and before CGY game?

We need our sleuths to watch social media

Hayes can be in Ottawa already

Not a stretch if it comes with an extension.

Don't think we see a Hayes move until tomorrow.

This is too on the nose. Is this a number floated by management? Get other teams thinking he's a bargain? Negotiating early with the Kreider camp? That's an easier number to say yes to for Gorton, no way Kreider's agent leaked it and killed his bargaining power.

We can guess where it originated but the "why" is the important part.

so they aren't allowed to even start negotiations until july 1st but they should have already made a decision of whether or not they want to sign him to a deal for unknown terms and money cause they can't negotiate yet?

The rebuild really got a strong push from seemingly doing well on all our first round picks last year, as well as some other prospects taking off this season.

Factor in AT LEAST our 1st and 3 2nds, and our prospect pool is really looking great.
You know at least one of those 2nds will be wasted on a mediocre goalie that we don't need.

IMO Hayes with his boy Gaudreau would produce at a much better level.

He's been playing with Vesey and Buchnevich... As a playmaking center he hasn't had much help. Vesey should have 30 goals by now. He misses open nets and quality scoring chances as if he has no thumbs

Stone is a great player but he might not re-sign in CGY. Hayes has a much better chance to re-sign with his best friend and cousin being there.

Vesey's ability to bungle high-danger scoring chances is basically unparallelled around the league, the numbers bear this out.

In regards to Dallas; what some of the younger posters forget is how that franchise was a "Main Eventer" in the mid 90s-right before the 2004-05 lockout. Had a stacked team and always spent money. Won a Cup with our good buddy Sergei Zubov, and went to another SFC. They along with the Rangers, Leafs, Flyers, Red Wings, Avalanche, and to a lesser extent Blues and Capitals are basically why the salary cap came into play. Remember the summer they signed Guerin and Scott Young to big deals?

Even post lockout, they haven't been shy to spend and have acquired some big names. Would they automatically not resign Zuc? They'll have a decent amount of cap room. It becomes a question of do they want to pay big bucks for a Panarin/Stone or even go after EK65? They have some really bad long term contracts. Bishop is going to bite them eventually. Take Zuc for less annual and a shorter term, or go after the big name and pay them between 50-60% of their remaining cap room for seven years and a NMC.

After the Zucc deal, i'm not expecting much for Hayes.

2nd and B prospect.

They're getting a 1st and if they don't, it'll be better than a B prospect.

The overrating of Zuccarello is astounding. Yes he had a good month, but the ones previous to that were not good to say the least.

The fact that they have a shot (even if remote) to walk out of a deal for him with 2 1sts and a reasonable shot for 1 is amazing.

If Kylington really is going to be that good and Gorton can get him, cool, but I don't understand all this D. Rangers have literally about 20 D prospects. Not all will pan out, but they really should be trying to acquire talent up front. Unless this is some mega deal where like Hayes/Skjei go to Calgary and Kylington/Neal/Prout and two firsts come back to even out money.

Rangers have too many D as it is.

There is no reasonable shot for 1. You are overrating the deal if you think there is. Its a 2nd and 3rd barring some sort of miracle.

Serious question: when was the last time a team made a trade where they gave up a pick conditional on re-signing a player where they didn't then make a good-faith attempt to re-sign that player?

Might be selective memory, but it seems to me, more often than not such conditions get fulfilled – no...?

When it's a 1st round pick? I can't remember a single time. Someone prove me wrong because nothing is jumping out in my head.
