Official Francesco Aquilini Thread

Not time for a bump.

He's sanctioned a ton of new hirings in hockey ops and coaching over the past eight months.

Seemingly, he has backed off his involvement in hockey ops.

He's an idiot for everything we've witnessed the past decade - beginning with his denial of a Gillis rebuild - but, this thread isn't due for a bump. He's been fine recently.

I can totally picture Francesco sitting at his desk, probably oversized and made of a rich mahogany.

Patrick Allvin and Jim Rutherford standing before him, hat in hands, trembling.

Frankie bellows out, "get me ILYA MIKHEYEV or get yourselves new jobs!"

Totally picture it.

This player is completely overrated and should be traded yesterday for a bag of pucks and a pint of blueberries.

I couldn't possibly be the only one waiting for the other shoe to drop, likely heaven forbid if things end up going tits up. The best indicator of a person's future actions is their past actions. I'm not talking anytime soon, more down the road.

I don’t see much meddling going on with Aqua this year.

Rutherford has signed like 100 people in the front office, They also are spending to the cap once again,
Completely redoing and renovating both Abbotsford and the Vancouver Canucks building, dressing rooms.

I think he has the respect of Rutherford, that being said, obviously he’s not letting a full rebuild happen right now, and honestly looking at our roster, It would make little sense.

The time for a full rebuild was like three or four years ago.

Maybe two years.

But this retool is going to take at least three years, way too many dead contracts, or overpayments.

The problem with FA I've had is never about spending money...thankfully. It's been his asinine business decisions thinking he's the smartest person in the room because he was born into wealth, and thus basically throwing said money down a well. FA's done lots of good, but his ego gets in his own way.

Oh I think he 100% meddled and all the other years, I’m just saying I think he has way too much respect for ruthaford to meddle this year, and honestly I think Rutherford would tell him to f*** off, I built three Stanley cups.

The biggest issue is he signed the worst general manager in canucks history, And because they are good friends, he was way too loyal to him.

The year we should have rebuilt, was the year we brought in Trevor Linden

heh, Fredo probably cried himself to sleep knowing his childhood idol Trevor Linden was on his payroll. Didn't stop him from meddling in Canuck affairs as well as firing him.

The main reason I was really excited when Rutherford was hired was that there was absolutely no way a 73-year-old with 3 cups was going to let Aquilini boss him around.

I don't think this is gonna be much of an issue going forward.

If Aquaman tries to overrule a decision that this regime has made that JR stands behind, could Aquaman handle facing the media if JR steps down in protest? I doubt he could.

I hope FA is happy now that the magnitude of Benning's incompetency has been laid bare with the long-term ramifications for the club.

Nah, he's probably still surrounded by yes men who buffer his communications and feelings.

That’s a good point, there’s no way he’s not letting Jim run the show completely.

And from everything I’ve seen so far, this seems to be the case

i can reassure everyone i have my aquaman radar tinfoil hat on at all times monitoring the situation. i have only seen inconclusive signals of aquaman activity with no solid contacts.

i thought at first the apparent overpay on $/term for our two "big" ufa signings was a sign of aquaman still in the background demanding new ufa toys. now i think that it was probably inflated market conditions.

i also thought the rumours about the canucks potential trade of 15oa with the isles, including the story they went back to ask lou for more on a tentative trade involving 15oa, and the story about an inappropriate media leak, sounded like vintage aquaman getting involved with key trades.

but those rumours did not clarify and i do not know what happened.

i definitely think that we should look hard at the aquafamily if there are any local media leaks in the near future. it seems clear the new management group has things locked down internally for now and i think that will continue into next season to make sure the media get the message.

i will continue to monitor the situation. over and out.

The best thing to happen to Canucks in years? The Aquilini's hiring a couple of professional, no-nonsense guys like Rutherford and Allvin, and then getting out of the way and letting them do their job.

Just too bad it took almost two decades for that to happen. And might have happened at all, if the fans hadn't been in open revolt over the Benning-Weisbrod-Green regime.

That guy who threw his jersey on the ice after a loss to the Pens last season, is the unsung hero of this franchise..

I can’t believe it’s not widely known who threw the jersey.

Aquaman would have to explain Linden and then JR if that happened. 2 presidents stepping down because they seem to disagree with the owner and during that time between presidents the team was poorly run. 2 ends of the spectrum a rookie president and a very senior one both leaving.

Aquilini would get massacred in the press. His brothers would probably have to step in.

Linden's resignation has not been, and will probably never be explained. Linden has remained radio silence on the matter.

Don't worry, if and when JR resigns, Aqua trots out another Canucks legend to the forefront and make people forget everything else. He did it with Linden, and Smyl. The Steamer has been quietly relegated to the sidelines, once again. Now Aqua can trot out the Sedins if something bad happens.

Like someone said, Aqua is relatively hands off new management until it comes off the rails. Then he'll go back to his meddling self.

yeah me too.
Dude should be in the ROH.
My dream is for the Canucks to win a Stanley Cup sometime under this management group, and the return of that “History Will Be Made” commercial series in time to give our mystery hero his moment. Cup presentation—>backwards, backwards, backwards—>jersey floating from the ice up into hand…”What if enough wasn’t enough?” or something much better.

Time to send Frankie to Vegas under the protection of the Molinari family from the West Coast.

My hope / sense is that Rutherford is at that place in life / career where he wouldn't have time to be pushed around by the likes of FAQ and would give it back to him right away. But you never know...
