Official Francesco Aquilini Thread

I cannot understand how people look at this stupid tweet and say "he's right to say this" or "I get it but just not a great idea to say it out loud". This is the thought/messaging of a child. This guy has sat idly by while this franchise was mismanaged by either him through meddling or through his chosen manager, and he only finally made a change when it was becoming clear that the fans were rightfully turning on both him and management. He then turned and hired the most obvious possible choice that required essentially no introspection or forethought, just "this guy has won, hire him". These are the choices of someone looking to wrap up an issue quickly rather than correctly, and he expected to have praise and adulation wash over him for doing the bare minimum.

He's an embarrassment to have as a franchise figurehead, and deserves really no credit in this situation until he actually does something proactive and positive. Just a complete & total jackass

Hard not to give 'two thumbs up' to this. For eight years Aquilini sat by while the franchise plummeted into mediocrity and even defended the current regime right into the off-season. In fact his parting quote on Sportsnet 650 to start this season was 'blame me' not the GM 'Jim Benning'.

If nothing else, the media has bent over backwards in this town to give the owner and the Benning regime the 'benefit of the doubt' at every turn. In fact it was only last season's disaster followed up by this season's meltdown, that caused a lot of media guys to finally jump off the bandwagon.

So when Aquilini made sweeping organizational changes last week, my reading of the media coverage was that it was mostly 'positive'. I can't find any commentators who said he 'was moving too fast'.

But that doesn't stop the guy from tweeting and bleating about how unfair the media has been to him. What a shallow personality and an absolute embarrassment as an owner.

It aligns pretty perfectly with the contingent of fans this summer who were mad that anyone was questioning the logic of the OEL trade or the FA signings, meeting reasonable doubts with "What else do you want?? He made moves! That should be enough for you people!" It's the idea that any action, however unsatisfactory or inadequate, is a complete refutation of criticism of inaction.

FA finally firing Benning likely in his mind means that he has completed what people asked of him, rather than the ask of him being "build a competent hockey braintrust that stays ahead of other teams and puts us in a place to be consistent contenders." I won't deny that that's a much bigger ask of him, but if someone owns a franchise with passionate fans I'd also say that that should be the bare minimum expected of them.

As VanJack said, people have absolutely been bending over themselves to praise whatever morsels of positivity have been dropped by this franchise over the past years. Piss poor leadership leads to piss poor results which lead to piss poor performance reviews by those covering the team. I fail to see what part of this is confusing or unfair to people

Crazy how much he’s tweeting during a 3 game win streak but how he went AWOL during the end of the Benning era when the franchise’s brand was being dragged through the mud.
Thats because he's a fan boy.

The sooner the fan base realizes this the better.

He couldn't evaluate the canucks in 2013.....2019 and certainly not in 2021.

Jim Rutherford are you fu*king kidding me?

1 of Jack Burtons best catch phrases was...it's going to get a lot worse before it gets better......it's going to get a lot worse.

Fraq's tweet essentially demonstrates the utter lack of self-awareness about what exactly he's responsible for here. And he wants some form of credit for very basic fundamentals.

That's how a classic narcissist would reply in this kind of situation.

I've always suspected that FA has a low EQ. I think this just further confirms that.

It's the kind of tweet that just makes you go "shouldn't you be like... hanging out with your family and friends instead of sending out late night tweets about your 800MM hockey team?"

I often envy Toronto's ownership structure because it's not tied to some singular figure' ego.
I wish we have a mark Cuban like owner or the people who own the warriors

He wants credit. All these years of owning the club, he's wanted credit. And that's why he started meddling with the Torts signing. Now he was expected praises from the media for the 'quick' turn around and BB hiring.

Whether the tweet is accurate or not (and it’s not), whining about media coverage is usually a dead giveaway that your organization is a complete mess behind the scenes. Good organizations focus on communicating clearly about what they are trying to do and maybe grumble a bit about coverage as a last resort if they feel that message is being distorted. Bad organizations jump right into complaining that the media is out to get them. The Trump administration or, like, Theranos are extreme examples of this but it’s almost always a tell.

For the Warriors, Chamath Palihapitiya is his own brand of twitter idiot. But I get what you mean.
Well the thing is he is a successful self made billionaire so he would believe he is right in a lot of areas even if it’s not within his expertise, like politics. He is only a minority owner though, I don’t think he actually does anything other than having a small stake and hang out around the team.

I don't know what EQ means and the scope of it entirely, I just think he's a f***ing idiot. He's no different than plucking some boomer off the street who pines for "old time hockey" without a rudimentary understanding of what hockey is as a game, how it can evolve, etc. He's just some rich kid who had the good fortune of being born into money and was never told he was wrong.
