There are 13 defensemen with 10 goals or more in the league right now.LOL Montreal fans are so deluded thinking the guy pacing 5 goals on the year is going to win the Calder
Hutsons season so far:What records has Hutson broken or what records is he about to break? Genuinely curious. And how do rookie dman records compare to records wingers and centers have a chance to break?
I hear they are giving it to buntingjust give me the calder so no one gets their feelings hurt.
Hutsons season so far:
61GP 4G 44A 48 pts
Hutsons last 40 games - roughly since he was promoted to PP1
4G 33A 37 points. -2
Pace of 8G/68A/76 points -4 per 82.
If Hutson can continue on his offensive pace from the past 40 games till the end of the season he could end up with
6G 61A 67 points
That would be top 5 All time points by a rookie D (Murphy 76, Leetch 71, Suter 68, Housley 66, Bourque 65)
And 1 assist away from the ALL TIME rookie record of 62 assists set by Larry Murphy back in 1980-81, and 6 more than second place Chelios who finished with 55 assists back in 84-85.
A bit of context too.
The rookie leaders in points and their teams respective GF/GP
Murphy, Caps, 81-82 3.98
Leetch, Rangers - 88-89 3.875
Suter, Flames - 85-86 - 4.425
Housley, Sabres - 82-83 - 3.98
Bourque, Bruins 79-80 - 3.88
Chelios, Canadiens 84-85 - 3.86
Hutson, habs - 24-25 - 3.016
So, over the last 40 games hes been pacing to break the ALL TIME points record while playing for a team that scores 23% less goals per game than the lowest scoring team from the above list.
Compared to the modern day seasons of Hughes and Makar
Makar 72point pace for 82gp on a team that scored 3.38 G/GP
Hughes 64 point pace per 82 gp on a team that scored 3.30 G/GP
Hutson is having a rookie season for the ages, all while not having a consistent defensive partner and often playing on his off side. Its insane actually.
What Celebrini is doing is also incredible. The last time the Flames played the Sharks they showed a stat where the names on the list were McDavid, Crosby... etc.Celebrini is awesome and may even have a better career than Hutson but right now, this season, the above cannot be stressed enough. What Hutson is doing is incredible. The fact that he is about to insert himself within a list that only includes guys that played in the 80s is just nuts. All the while doing it on a team that is very average.
The trophy in itself is one of the most meaningless trophies awarded in hockey along with the lady byng and just slightly less meaningless Selke. You all realize that getting the Calder won't have any impact on a player's career from that point on, right?
As a Habs fan Subban getting his Norris or Price getting the Vezina/Hart only led to massive contracts and impossible expectations. I'd be relieved if Hutson finishes 2nd.

But fans of one team can't dunk on fans of the other team.....and then.....they will have to suffer through been dunked on by fans of that other team and fans of other teams who don't have a horse in the race either way.You all realize that getting the Calder won't have any impact on a player's career from that point on, right?

Hutson tied for 4th in the league in secondary assists. Over half his points are secondary assists.
One of the worst defensive d-man in the league.

You don't seem to understand what I'm saying it's not forever just right now, ie rest of the season and your coach MSL seems to agree since he is playing one guy a hell of alot more right? No one with any understanding of hockey is taking Matheson over Hutson for their team lmao, this might be the worst post I've ever seen

Again, the poster pointed out that Matheson only plays more because he's on the PK. Hutson plays more at ES and on the PP.... Honestly no one who watches more than 2 or 3 habs game would say that Matheson gives you a better chance to win right now. No one.You don't seem to understand what I'm saying it's not forever just right now, ie rest of the season and your coach MSL seems to agree since he is playing one guy a hell of alot more right?
But maybe I'm wrong about habs fans knowing alot about hockey, it seems fantasy stats rule the day.
ah, given the paragraph break i thought those were two separate ideas. They are Habs?
Please notice I said...wearing the CH
That means he's quite valuable overall (as long as you put a lot of faith into this metric, and I'm generally favorable if cognizant of the error bars).
Wow, another accomplishment for the rookie from Montreal. Thanks for bringing it up. I'll add it to his accomplishment post.Hutson tied for 4th in the league in secondary assists.
