Laz. and The Athletic today in a very lazy effort. aging well

and Laz's previous piece was outstanding. go figure
Per laz no team in the cap era has won the cup from rebuilding through the draft. Pens caps avs hawks kings and bolts just won by the power of friendship and not because of the players they drafted

funny enough the best team in the league right now has done it almost entirely through the draft and being patient, vegas is like the only team that has done it mostly through player acquisitions, florida has been sharp there as well but they got the players through trades with guys they drafted like huberdeau

Is it just me who didn’t realize that Knight’s only 23? One draft year older than Askarov? Feels like he’s beeen around forever

I knew he was young but honestly prior to the trade would have thought at least 25 by now.

It does feel that way. He made the NHL as a 20 year old. Borderline unheard of for a goalie these days. He had a 36-save playoff win against the eventual cup champ Bolts 35 days after his 20th birthday lol. That's a completely busted timeline for a goalie prospect

He is as naturally gifted as they come. Really hope the Blackhawks can nurture that into something special

Yeah, you gotta start with the Draft giving you the right foundation and then you can kinda take it from there once the team has turned the corner. Vegas situation was unique with a very favorable expansion draft. But then once you get it up and going, the further you stay competitive the less drafted your team will become. That's all well and good while you're a competitive team but you won't build a team "from scratch" so to speak with acquisitions when there isn't a foundation.

It's still very, very early but in the two Iowa games I saw this year, Wallstedt did not look good.

24 in a month but I was surprised he was that young as well.

Knight's quote after the game, ""I'm here to build a championship-winning team." Knight said postgame. "Whether that's a year, two years, five, I don't know. But that's what we're working towards."

He is the anti-Jones

Hopefully we now have our goalie of the future
Wouldn't it be perfect if this trade is looked back as the turning point in Hawk's rebuild.
