Kopi is not going to get a 3 million dollar raise. He already takes up 6.8.

Look at what Toews gets, because that will set the market for Kopitar.

And any assumption that Kopitar is going to take some kind of hometown discount is wishful thinking; any GM banking on that by not having enough money to sign him at any price, is derelict in his duty. Kopitar may not make as much as Toews in the end, or maybe his contract is a million years long, or whatever. But, the bottom line is that he is the engine that drives this club (along with Doughty) and MUST be retained at (virtually) any cost. If we start re-signing players to larger contracts and just hoping that the cap will go up enough to accommodate Kopitar's very well-deserved raise, then we're taking an awful risk.

This. The only thing working in Dean's favor is that Toews new deal will start at 27, and take him to 34. In Kopi's case, he will be 29, and it will take him to 36. That assuming both would be signing 8 year deals.

Well, we agree to disagree then. I think you will be shocked when Williams is re-signed. In fact, my prediction is his extension will be announced this summer, not next. And I will go on record right now so we can all come back to see whether I was correct or not. 3 years at 4.5 AAV at least is what I will say right here, right now. :naughty:

Let me ask you this, would you have offered JW, [email protected] last year when we were eliminated in the PO by the hawx, and he only had 9 pts in 18 PO games? I love JW, but let's be realistic here, JW is going to be our 3RW from here on out, most likely. So to pay that kind of money seems a bit high. He's making 3.65M AAV in his current contract. I'm thinking he may have to take a paycut, if he wants to remain a king.

I'm thinking Kopi is better than Toews on our boards only. Personally, I'd take Toews over Kopi any day. I think Toews defense gets overlooked, because he's very good at every facet of the game.

Toews is more offensively dynamic, but Kopitar has a better all-around game. If I'm building a team around someone, it's Kopitar; if I need a goal with a minute left and I have to choose between the two, it's Toews.

I agree with this. Toews capacity for actual goal scoring exceeds Kopitars'.

Toews is also better in the face off dot and has more takeaways. Kopitar has better possession statistics.

I really believe Kopitar's next contract will be 8 years at 80 million.

They've taken turns scoring more than one another during their time shared in the league; I think this is one of those things that is widely accepted in public perception but isn't really scrutinized. That being said, Toews does have a better GPG, .403 to Kopi's .33, so it is true he's the more productive goal-scorer, and i agree that he's more dynamic/explosive offensively on the eye test, but it's not a large margin of difference. Keep in mind the productivity of the teams involved, as well. Kopitar is ALWAYS our highest scorer, Toews not so much for the Hawks. When you go by points (reg season for all of this), Toews is .909 PPG, Kopi .903 PPG. THis is why I'm eager to see what Kopitar does with a theoretically full season with an elite winger and better offensive team. They've been putting up virtually identical numbers with Toews on an offensive powerhouse and Kopitar on a defensive machine. The only distinct advantage Toews has on Kopitar is place of birth. Toews is Canadian Jesus and Kopitar is weird foreign Euro whose country xenophobes can't find on a globe. Otherwise, you can easily make a case for either guy.

Plus, Kopi's playoff stats are better, and that's even with his horrible-production postseason last year.

I'll say 68 mil though.

Kopitar 8 years at 68.8 million is what I think Kopitar, and Lombardi will agree too.

That's just shy of 9.0 Million a season

I still don't think Kane/Toews get anything close to 10 million a season.
They may get that say year 1-5 from bonus money, but their cap hits are not going to approach 10 million a season.

The Hawks can't ice a competitive team with Two guys taking 20+million of Cap space

If they are going to pay Kane/Toews the outlandish numbers the reports have, Then Bickell/Hossa/Sharp/Crawford are goners.

Well, that's pretty much expected, and I'm sure the majority of the kings fans would agree with you. However, if we're discussing, who's the better center, I'm still going with Toews.

Who do you guys see as the better partner for McNabb? I'm thinking Greene. But does that mean Amart will be a HS? Something to think about...

AMart... not even close. Remember Greene losing his spot to AMart last year because the WM/MG pairing wasn't winning games?

Now if you are asking if Sutter is going to run McNabb/Greene or McNabb/AMart... well I know where I'd put my money

With Mitchell gone I gotta think Greene is gonna be wanted to play the PK. And he seems to be doing a nice job of mentoring the kids he's paired with, both Martinez and Muzzin started out playing next to him.

McNabb with Amart could be disastrous. McNabb is better off being paired with a SAH dman.

Just not sure with Greene's limited speed how much he'll be able to cover for McNabb...

I do see your point that Greene may still be better then AMart's "Back Checking".

Either way breaking McNabb in on the 3rd pairing can't be as painful as Muzzin finding his game on the first pairing this year was.

Now if McNabb can pick up Greene's move where he runs up the offensive boards to flatten a winger trying to break out that would be great.
