understand, I would think some guys on the team would rather win a cup than participate. Pavelski is a great playoff warrior, Kakko's value could plummet more once he signs his next contract. Like I said, no guarantees. As always, time is the great equalizer. Should be interesting if Drury wants to keep a more offenive Jan Erixson
They arent a Pavelski away from winning the Cup.

I wouldn’t trade Kakko for 5 Pavelski rentals. I wouldn’t trade Kakko for 5 Pavelskis for this year and next year either. Trading Kakko for anything that doesn’t provide a long term sustainable impact is atrocious for the Rangers.
EXACTLY.
Rangers can deal vets for vets, vets for youth, or youth for youth. Team cannot deal youth for vets, esp core pieces like KK, LaF, Chytil, Barron

no guarantees, panarin getting older, Zibby getting older, kreider getting older, can Igor post the same numbers year after year, heck can Foxy withhold the physical onslaught? blueshirts have a legit chance this year, like someone said, who is better Pavelski or Kakko? The rangers always get their free agents and have a more than real chance of signing Pavelski anyway. been watching NHL since 1978, strike when the iron is hot, especially when you have a declining asset in Kakko

True. I can see Kreider, Panarin and Zibby retired in 2-3 years. Also agree Igor is due to put up a .900 SV% every season after this one and I doubt Fox ever plays more than 40 games in a season (playoffs included) ever again. And it makes a lot of sense to lessen the imminent decline of our 28-30 year olds by trading away our 20 year old for a 37 year old we can keep until he is 40.

thanks for your message and NY sarcasm. Can always respect and appreciate it. Sometimes I feel people are afraid to win. Bird in a hand is worth more than 2 in a bush sometimes. Careers can end or slowdown on a dime from a hit from Tom Wilson types. no guarantees the boys can keep this level of play for years. A middling 3 year young vet vrs a playoff warrior is an interesting debate. I would suspect the aging ranger stars like breadman, Kreider and Zibby would like to go all in. Just a hunch

And for every successful rental there are 7 or 8 that result in nothing every year.

Its been reported that Rangers are trying to add impact players for playoff. Preferrable RW and C. A netprescence and distributor. On Finnish news there was speculations that Kakko would be the piece Rangers are offering. I just think Dallas would be the perfect tradingpartner.

Dallas get:

Kaapo Kakko 0.925M RFA 2022

NYR get:

Joe Pavelski 7M UFA 2022 - retained 50% by Dallas

Dallas get a cost-controlled project who is decent 2-way, with upside, to add to Robertson-Hintz. NYR get one of the best netprescences in the game. Pavelski is a PPG player still and with him, Rangers can roll 2 very good lines and try contend.
Uh, No. Close this thread.

5 Trouba's = 1 Heiskanen
Very, very dopey. Trouba is a different brand of D man and brings things to the ice that Heiskanen will never. Heiskanen has more trade value; not sure I would take him over Trouba if I'm trying to win a Stanley Cup.

I've said this numerous times on the NYR board.

We are not one player away from contending, but we are going to make the playoffs.

As such there is a big gray space between going all in and doing nothing.

Trading what amounts to three 1st round picks for Pavelski is an all in endeavor. Not something the NYR's should be looking at.

In fact, if the add can walk at end of season, we need not look at that player at all THIS YEAR.

Pavelski would be (will be) a great add for some team, but for the asking prices in this thread, I'm more than content letting another team acquire him.

In fact, with the cap space the NYR's do have, we can help facilitate the transaction by acquiring some retention of his salary.

Guess you missed the Stars final run? Heiskanen would have won Conn Smythe if Stars had won.

thanks, sometimes you just gotta say "like tom cruise said" The blueshirts are poised, hungry and ready to win now. I'm sure Gallant and Reeves are here to win a cup right now. They are contenders. Experience says when you have the chance, you take it. Injuries and bad goaltending happens in the playoffs, the top teams can all fall and are guaranteed nothing. Sometimes I feel folks are afraid to win. Just my 2 cents. cheers mate

The 50% retention is what got me. Check the deadline cap space projection for the rangers. They have absolutely no need for retention. Also, Drury is a former player and he sees a team that has virtually no playoff experience. He's not going all in and the media have no idea what Drury is doing. Drury just became GM and he still has all his leaks sealed. The media are out in the dark with Drury.

One of the worst takes I've ever seen

The Stars were 2 wins away from a Heiskanen Conn Smythe trophy

Also can't believe this thread isn't locked yet with the way Rangers fans are reacting to this deal:laugh:
