The Tuna melt with cheddar, tomato, and bacon is the best sandwich at Wawa.

And I say that as someone who dislikes tuna.

Oban makes a very nice subtle scotch as well, really nicely balanced without the intense smoke.

Oh science. I put this guy in the freezer to cool for the evening and let it spend too much time there. Poured fine but a TINY bit less carbonation than expected. Out of curiosity—and for science—I used one of my instant read thermometers to check temp. Beer was 19* F but still pure liquid.

Also credit for double local. Free Will brewing has a truly glorious barrel aging program (very diverse) and this particular gem is aged in new liberty barrels (believe they are Philly proper)

Incidentally, cast iron is the greatest. Used it to fry the potatoes, sear the steak, and plate and melt the cheese/finish the steaks.

Once a month I’ll let my gas tank get close to empty around qtr. I’ll go to auto zone get STP fuel injector cleaner and at Sunoco get the 94 Octane.

I don’t know much about the difference in gas between

87 regular
89 Super
91 Premium

And 94 Octane Sunoco only

Sunoco, Conoco, Lukoil, Wawa are the 4 around me in South jersey.

The point is once a month I’ll get the octane and regular rest of the month.

My 2012 Toyota Carolla which is at 194k miles runs like day 1. Only recently around 186k did I have to get a new starter, alternator, Battery which was about a 830.00 visit , by keeping up the routine maintenance and brakes car runs great.

I also put in new spark plus and it runs great.

So does anyone else do this? Or use any of the other fuel choices?


I wonder if by using the octane gas once a month just gives my car longer life.

You have a 12 year old car with 200k on it. Whatever you’re doing is working for you Lou.
I was always of the belief that cars are grumpy old men and do not like change.
According to my mechanic most cars are more than fine running 87 and only very few need 91 let alone 94. I get 89 in my truck.
That said I spent the first few thousand miles checking the different gases out vs the mileage I received and saw zero difference.

I'm going to say this and it'll come across a certain way, but it's not my intention. You don't need a high octane gas in your specific vehicle.

Higher octane gases only really come into play when you start talking engine internals for high compression or turbo-charged engines. To further this, not even all turbo charged engine require it, most just recommend it (which is a huge misconception in and of itself).

All that being said - if what you are doing is working for you, keep doing it and I wouldn't change it this far into your vehicles life.

I’ve only ever had one car that got more than Regular and that was a Bi-Turbo V6. No need. But you’re not hurting it. If it makes you feel better, doing it every once in a while isn’t hurting anything.

Octane rating has nothing to do with mileage or "goodness" of gas. Higher octane can make more power ONLY AND ONLY IF the engine is designed for that octane. Using a lower octane than the car recommends CAN AND DOES either damage the engine or limit power. Modern cars will detect incorrect fuel and cut the power so the engine does not destroy itself. Using a higher octane than recommended is almost always fine, but a waste of money.

The exception to the rule is some brands put better additives in the premium fuel that help to keep the engine clean. You benefit from the additives, not the octane. Buy whatever octane it says on your gas cap, but get it from a reputable brand and you will be fine.

Ahhh the couple of years I had to go to exclusively Shell stations. That’s the only thing I don’t miss about that car.

as said the octane and fuel injector I do once a month. Just to clean the engine i thought it could remove any gunk or whatever.

I do notice the extra gitty up, plus those elite spark plugs have it humming.

It’s amazing though we have 2 Toyotas

A carolla my car

and a 2015 Prius at 132,000 and they both run great.

Not sure why they better but I guess better engines.

I also thought about looking at AAA insurance with AAA car service. The day I spent 830 to get the Carolla fixed I had it towed from home to shop for 70. First time I ever used AAA card , I’m like where else you gonna get a tow for 70 for 19 miles.

The Alternator was the first to go at 186k miles but I can’t complain it’s been excellent before and after.

We have at times. It's going to vary from brand to brand and model to model so much that it's hard to have a broad discussion about it. Did you have any specific questions about the process?

For example, this past spring I helped a buddy find a vehicle for his new driver daughter. He was going to go with a used CR-V until I found a 24 month lease with 1k up front (including fees) for $99/month on a new ~$40k small Toyota Electric SUV. And they delivered it.

I always thought the higher the octane the cleaner the burn, the cleaner the burn the more I don’t know efficient it is or power you gain, the better mileage you get.
