I wonder if there is another trade that could be made between these 2 teams. Dallas have a lot of forward prospects and comparatively very few D prospects. Rangers have quite a few D prospects and not so many forwards.

I'm guessing Johnson and Bourque are off limits but I wonder if Dallas might part with one of Damiani, Dellandrea or Peterson for an equivalent D prospect.

New York Rangers

Primary Objective: Top 6 right wing
Secondary Objective: Reliable checking line winger
Briefing: Here’s the imbalance on Broadway: Artemi Panarin and Chris Kreider on the left side, Alexis Lafreniere and Kaapo Kakko on the right side. Stanley Cup contender on the left; lottery balls on the right. Thankfully for GM Chris Drury, as he navigates his first trade deadline, his arsenal is the envy of the NHL. He has cap space, a full array of picks, and a bevy of prospects to deal. The primary target (by a long shot) is J.T. Miller, who has already played right wing in New York. Reilly Smith also played for Gerard Gallant and would be a fit with Vegas’ need to unload cap space. The Rangers have also talked about adding a responsible checking line winger (think Ryan Carpenter in Chicago) to help round out the lineup. But keep an eye on Miller, as the Rangers would like a reunion and they can afford to sign him to an extension, too.
Pieces potentially in play: 2022 1st Round Pick, Kaapo Kakko, Braden Schneider, Vitali Kravtsov, Alexandar Georgiev"

I feel pavelski would be a better match even than Miller/Smith. I`d guess by doing this trade Rangers could go far in the playoffs. Just my opinion.
Outside of an expansion draft, Frank has a diminishing return. He also has the players in play completely wrong. That said, there are Dallas / NY possibilities. I believe that we won’t pay the price on Pavs but could go after Radulov if we miss out on Smith. Sekera could be a nice add on. Unless of course we’re talking Roope.

Never said it was going to be for nothing but a 1st round is ridiculous. Andrew Ladd carried 2 years and 5.5 mill each year and didn't get a first. Marc Staal was 1 year and a 5.7 cap hit for a 2nd. To think a player making 2.5 mill is somehow worth more than those two is like comparing apples to hand grenades. Not even close
Ignore him, he’s a well known NYR troll.

Another thread where I feel draft position years ago matters too much compared what the player has actually done. That said, don't see NYR ready to give up Kakko or Laf yet.

However they, like all playoff-bound teams, could use Pavelski.

Its probably going to be higher than that. Thats 2 seasons away and only a 2 mill increase. Next year should be full revenues so hopefully it will be much higher but we shall see.
The players still owe the owners 1 billion dollars, it might be a bit before there are significant raises in the salary cap. 1-2 million I can see, but that's a lot of money owed to the owners.

If it doesnt matter then why do fans of multiple teams keep making proposals for him?

Lost me at Miller played RW in NY.

He played LW in NY with some C action but nothing concrete.

True but they are supposed to raise it a mill this year and revenue this year is going to be terrible due to no fans at games or limited capacity. I can't see the NHL only doing 1 mill per year for however many years. They are going to have to do a little more per year and pay them over a longer period.

I think Rangers should possibly target Dallas prospect Wyatt Johnston talented Center who plays with Will Cuylle

This thread got weird. Why is Dallas trading prospects? This crazy notion that you are not a cup contender is just that crazy. All you have to do is get in. Look at the last two teams that lost in the finals. No one said they would make it out of the first round. Rangers even have a goalie that can get hot and make a run.

that being said Kakko is not worth it. He seems to be trending towards a bust for 2nd overall. I will give it a couple more years but he needs to turn it up a ton. So trading pavelski and a prospect is dumb.

After Fox`s extension, Kakko RFA and Strome UFA this summer, Rangers have Miller, Lafreniere and Chytil RFA:s next year. Doubt NYR want to trade thoose either and I dont expect Rangers getting a 100M cap from Bettman or that all their RFA:s are taking 2M extensions..a

Please tell me how Rangers will manage their cap in the future?

And if they have to do trades, then now would be the time. Now they have players on cheap contracts and could add 1-2 really good contributors at deadline to contend, but to get you have to give. Doubt teams give 1st liners and Top2 D:s for your "We offer a 2nd rounder + unknown prospect"

I’m sure this has already been said, but everything you’ve mentioned about the cap makes zero sense. Why would the Rangers trade away a cost controlled 21 year old former 2oa top 6 forward for half a season of a 40 year old vet if they are worried about next years cap situation?
Why would they pay in terms of what they are sending back for salary retention when they have more cap space for this season than they’ll need? They have enough cap space right now to take futures in exchange for retaining salary. Who plays RW for the Rangers next year?
As far as next year goes, there are plenty guys on the team they would trade to open up cap space before Kakko.

Don’t bother. He has a long history of trying to stir things up in NYR threads.

For someone acting like you studied the Rangers cap in the future you sure as hell don't know anything about our cap this year if you are peddling 50% off Pavelski this year as having any value at all to the Rangers lol

This, 100%.

The Rangers have the pro-rated equivalent of about $35m in cap space. The next closest team has about $8m.

Edit: corrected the actual number and found the tweet.
