You keep saying he can only play here as if it’s some rule. He wanted to play here coming into the league and seemingly still wants to. He’s also a human being who’s circumstances have changed quite a lot since then. There’s no solid guarantee he won’t play anywhere else if the relationship sours
To be fair we are by far the coolest.

2 seasons in the NHL (and a trophy that i didnt think he should have won over Hedman), 40+ points but, 9.5 already... call me paranoid, but, i would want to see 2-3 more years before that dollar figure

About time to end the NCAA draftees special treatment. There is no way prospects should have the leverage to bully their way out of the organization where they were draft.

That being said, solid deal.
Its not special treatment. Canadian Junior players can do the same thing after 4 years. Do you believe a team should own a drafted player's rights forever?

In the NHL yes. They can play in Russia for their entire career if they want. But they should play for the NHL team that drafted them until they hit RFA and then they can take offers.

They don’t usually give Norris trophies to players who make their team worse when they’re on the ice

40+ points is pretty disingenuous. His production goes up every season and he has 98 points in 134 games. The offensive dynamo Quinn Hughes hit 100 in 133 and it was considered extremely fast. 98 in 134 comes out to .73 points per game or 59.9 points per 82. He has 9 points through 9 games this year. All while the eye test and analytics bare him out as being even better defensively than he is offensively..,

Problem is junior players don’t have 4 years in the CHL after being drafted. There’s a reason it’s never happened as long as I can remember.

Fox is unbelievable and certainly worth it; but I think it's pretty bad GM work to not get a bigger discount.

This guy forced his way onto your team, clearly has no interest in playing anywhere else, so he has ZERO leverage. It's not like you risk losing the player by driving a hard bargain.

But you risk an unhappy player on unhappy long term deal if you squeeze too hard.

Big cap hit but had to be done. Lots of salary added here for Zib and Fox starting next year.

In 2-3 more years he would be getting alot more than 9.5. This is a very good deal for NYR

Fox could have very easily made this extremely difficult for NYR getting this done. IMO he did the Rangers a huge favor signing this deal. He will have another massive season this year and could have signed for alot more after even just this season ends
