Player Discussion: Noah Dobson

Despite last night's frustrating loss, I thought Dobson stood out as one of the bright spots. A new high of 22:22 of TOI.

He certainly looks like he is gaining more confidence each game and it is evident in his play. The Big Easy looks smooth out there.
The Big Easy. I like that one. It's gonna stick.

My favorite golfer Ernie Els is called The Big Easy. He has such a smooth swing for a tall golfer (6'3) and Dobson's demeanor and play just remind me of him.

TBE for short? Since we're pretty damn lazy to type of the entire The Big Easy? :)

Kid looks really good. Grateful isles fans are not starting a thread for him on the main board. Its a marathon with these young kids not a sprint. Dobson checks off all the boxes in my opinion. Think the isles are grooming a horse.

He's very good. He'll have some head scratchers along the way and get bullied here and there, but he's positionally sound, smooth, makes a great first pass, and has a really quick release. A lot to like so far.

Hallelujah! I can't stand insecure fans having to pump the tires of their kids by starting a dumb main board thread. It seems everyone is a #1D in the making.

Let's just watch Dobson blossom, watching him develop is a treat to watch.

Agreed. He's gonna be a keeper for the long haul.

I have been wanting a horse RHD since Pietrangelo back in 2008. I lusted after Gudbranson in 2010, loved Dougie Hamilton in 2011, liked Trouba in 2012, loved Seth Jones in 2013, thought highly of Ekblad in 2014, no one really in 2015 because we had no picks, liked McAvoy is 2016, and no one really in 2017. Finally got my guy in 2018 and probably the closest thing to Pietrangelo (besides Jones who we had no shot at). It only took 10 years. Haha.

Besides a top end #1C (RH shot is rarer and a plus), a stud RHD is probably the hardest asset to acquire. I think Dobson is going to be really, really good for us.

Dobson is getting better every game. He was a lone bright spot last night. I could see him quickly rising up the depth chart this season. Wouldnt shock me at all if he is getting as many minutes as Pulock and Pelech by seasons end.

I love what he brings to the powerplay. Quick passing and decision making. Not afraid to shoot, and his shot seems to get to the net.

Amen! as some of the older isles fans we can attest about pumping tires of prospects. Some pan out most do not. Have to give it a few seasons. Still waiting for Hector Marini

I figured Dobson would start out on #2PP and play 3rd pair minutes to start and then graduate to #1PP and 2nd/3rd pair minutes by the end of the season. I didn't expect for Trotz to start him on #1PP immediately and more ES minutes like last night so quickly.

With Toews no longer around, Dobson has taken over those minutes and role already. Trotz knows the kid has the highest offensive skillset and upside of this group NOW. As the reigns have been loosened, Dobson has responded and has looked like he can handle the extra responsibility. There will be growing pains, but it should pay off later in the season.

Kid is showing he's the real deal.

Not only is he on his way to quickly becoming our best defenseman...he's on his way to being our best player.

He's coming into his own offensively. I'm interested to see if he can handle shutdown duty at some point too.

He needs reps to improve his defensive game. He could also stand to gain another 10 pounds of size and strength before having to play a shut down role. I think he will eventually be on the PK and play harder minutes, but I don't know if it will be this season.

I don't expect it this season, slow and steady. I'd like his confidence to be sky high in the role he's being given now, then add more on the plate later.

When Dobson is 23/24, I think we'll see him deployed in any situation. I think he'll be quite good defensively and able to take on the toughest matchups against top lines. The offensive part will be a given. There is no other young d-man that compares as closely to Pietrangelo than Dobson in all of hockey. The similarities on so many levels is uncanny.
