Post-Game Talk: GAME 53 - Winterpeg 6 BRUINS 2

It's probably a combination of both.

I'll just use two examples from last night. In the 2nd period the puck ends up on Lohrei's side of the defensive zone after McAvoy chased the puck carrier, Lohrei goes towards the puck carrier and McAvoy instead of switching off and covering the net, comes from behind Lohrei's shoulder and also attacks the puck carrier.

Another time McAvoy gets aggressive at the redline but the puck gets chipped past him. Lohrei goes over to become the next layer leaving the middle of the ice open. To me you want your forward backing up McAvoy there, let the LD cover the middle of the ice.
Yeah to me that seems like guys going solo trying to make things happen on their own, not trusting each other. Especially in Mcavoy’s case.

Don’t think Mcavoy suddenly forgot how to play defense.

Lohrei may be more coaching/development.

Look at the FA potential out there for this summer, if it’s a good year for forwards then trade some forwards. If it’s a good year for defensemen, trade some defensemen. Do not just stand pat especially with the FAs. Still risky banking on Free Agents but one of the factors to use when you retool for next season.

Cause let’s face it, with Mac and Pasta, Swayman they aren’t going to go full rebuild. It would take players wanting out and forcing a trade. Like say Pasta forcing a trade out now that would single the need to rebuild. Do I agree with it no, I wish they would do it now, but I also understand it’s a buinsess that will always maximize value vs cost.

Did you see the stupid selfish penalties he has been taking, not leadership quality.
I think it’s frustration due to a lack of production and embarrassment. Doing dumb things to try and get them going. While we know he can be rattish, this time it’s looking more like out of desperation than competitiveness.

With that type of talent you listed, there’s zero reason to do a full on rebuild. A retool is more than fine.

I think Monty took the reins of McAvoy a little bit compared to Cassidy and with the team struggling it's gone overboard, just trying to do too much.

I think you hit the nail on the head with the not trusting each other part and it becomes systemic break-down after break-down. Nobody knows where to be. Hesitant when they should be aggressive, aggressive when they shouldn't be.

I've said this multiple times now but the coaching staff constantly changing up who is in the middle, this weird obsession with always having the strong side guy take the face-off, has caused great confusion in the neutral and defensive zones. If I'm a D-man I want to be familiar with who the center-man is at any given moment when the other team has the puck.

I understand the defense, you are putting up there for him, but I just am not impressed with his leadership and his overall play. Good player over the years, but time to move on from him.

Let's face it...we have enjoyed watching some really good competitive regular season teams with relatively no worry...I'm in for some adversity as should be the players. Perhaps this will make them hungrier and prepared come playoff time.
I hope you are not talking about this year's playoffs?

On the fence, while skill wise yes they have some skill it’s not all the intangibles. Just not sure leadership wise they have the ability to lead a team to the cup. I think they would be good foot soldiers in a strong leadership group. I just don’t think they can lead it. Question is with their cap hit do they have the cap space to bring in the right leadership group necessary. It’s going to take more than one player

If this was a more rookie heavy team I would agree with the “make then hungrier and more prepared”. It’s not, this team and core has been to the playoffs multiple times, what you see is what you get. They just happened to have a few career year last season and Sweeney hit all his low risk pickups. What you are seeing is truly what this core is now without the boost from gambled pickups.

Bitching about Zadorov and his penalties are justified, but don't tell me those penalties the last two games from Marchand were not as dumb and selfish as you can get.
I had the Jets feed on and they didn't really show a reply of this. I was also watching on mute on an ipad half paying attention.

Did Scheifele even get hit with a high stick before Marchand's 10? Looks pretty suspect from the angle TSN kept showing.

Refs seemed like they were on one tonight w/ some pretty soft calls, but in no way blaming refs for the mess of a game last night.

Anyway, Marchand needs to step up and stop playing so stupid. It's hilarious he did this a few years ago and he's doing the same thing he was mocking.

Bruins were 2-2 in the 3ed period with Winnipeg. They were not getting dominated and just hanging on. That's the end of the good story.

Winnipeg had two PP goals, both off of Captain Brad bad offensive zone penalties.

Lohrei's gaffe on 4th Jets goal one of the worst I've ever seen at the NHL level.

Lohrei/McAvoy combo (-3) doesn't seem to be a good pairing.

Best CF% for Bruins last night: Poitras (78.9%) and Brazeau (76.5) They could have used a little more ice time.

Beecher won 9 of 11 faceoffs. Too bad that's all he can do.

Joe Sacco worst Bruins coach since Dave Lewis.

I really, really, really dislike this team. First time I've ever been on board with a firesale. I'm close to a seething dislike of Elias.
Feels odd as long time fans. Can only imagine what the season ticket holders are thinking.

A roster of mercenaries and a few core players such as Pastrnak.

Well done Sweeney.

Add in whatever Sacco is and the taste is even more unpleasant.

Serious question here - are you high ????
Lol.

Ok hear me out.
Mason McTavish is a 22 year-old Center who is an upcoming RFA who plays the game the way you want,(The Right Way) with skill and passion. Id look to sign him to a 8 year 7-8 mil dollar deal. Locking him up long-term.

Gibson and Coyle are pretty much a wash on the cap hit. Coyle has one yr left, with Gibby having 2 yrs left and he makes a mil or so more. So basically after you re-up McTavish and shed Swayman deal, it'll be pretty close to a wash contract wise.

Sweeney has actually done pretty good in finding goalies, with ullmark and Swayman and Deprieto looks like he may have been one and Gibson isn't chump change he can still play.

Sweeney hasn' been able to find that number one center. So I'd do it yesterday, "high or not" but I dont think Verbeek and the Ducks would.

Add on top of that Swayman is one of the high priced Bruins who has no control on where and when the bruins can move him, but like I said I don't think Verbeek would do it.
