I assume the Avs are still interested in trying to bring JTC back, otherwise, I'm sure a team would've thrown a late pick or future considerations our way to get an early jump on contract talks.

That being said if anyone wanted to talk to our UFAs early, I'd make it damn clear they are able to for a late pick.

I'm not sure we have the assets, or that it would be a wise use of them, to trade up into the top 10. But that is the only way I want this organization to keep those 2 1sts, and the 2nd.
I don’t think Colorado has ever traded a pending UFA that they weren’t bringing back and would have garnered interest on the open market

I......I don't even know what to say. Heart broken :m-sad: Best of luck in Montreal Alex. Thank you for everything you have done for our beautiful club. You have been so wonderful to watch and play. You always gave 110%, and will always be remembered for your Stanley Cup run.

I don't get it.
I have no memory of Newy during that SC run.

From Newhook traded to Canadiens by Avalanche

The Habs have such a huge misconception on Newy:

"He's not the tallest player (5-foot-10, 190 pounds), but he plays a heavy game."
Wut? Heavy game?

"He brings speed to our team as well as character."
Character? Nothing special there.

"He can play at center or wing, on the power play and the penalty kill"

Not sure about the C part and certainly not on the PK.

No wonder they paid through the nose to get him.

Any team is going to talk up their new acquisition, especially when they give up a decent amount. I do think that the statements are misguided and will add to the expectations placed on Newhook. Hughes is clearly a believer though and I really hope Newhook succeeds.

I’m also very glad the Avs moved on, it wasn’t going to work here and now they have assets to use… just please don’t use all 3 picks. (The skeptic in me thinks they’ll move down with one to gain picks in the 2nd to recoup prospects)

The best bet for that would be using 27 for that purpose. You *might* be able to get a team with multiple 2nds to trade 2 of them for 27 (I have my doubts on it though).

I’d bet more on 31… a team securing a guy who fell on their list for two picks around 40

Why are we talking about trading down? That shouldn't even be a consideration.

In order of preference for me:

1. Trade for an established bona fide top 6.

2. Move up and try to secure a guy like Honzek who you know will play and has upside still.

3. Keep the picks and take your swings. Sale comes to mind as an upside target and seems more and more likely he could be there. Hopefully one of Edstrom/Wahlberg and potentially Hrabal or one of the defenseman.

I wouldn't even think about trading down.

Avs have a tendency to do that when they have multiple picks in this range. I wouldn't be doing that (hell, I may not even use any of the picks), but going to that tendency with replenishing the pool shouldn't be unexpected.

If I was to use the picks, I'd package all three to get as high as possible to select Moore.
