Just hope NewJost can have a real chance as a winger on a top 2 lines, he might have a better chance to find chemestry than here with the Avs, we never had a healthy lineup for him to get that chance, yes I know he was supposed to be the 2C, but with Landy injury, we never had a potent second line last season, hope the best for him in Montréal

Ooof, I just finished an excursion on the Habs board and they are convinced that Newie is a speed demon.

Telling them it was not the case made them testy AF.

Have a look at the Newie contract thread and tell me if I went overboard. I thought I was straightforward and honest with them.
Just remind those f***s that they claimed Mete would be better than Makar. That one im never letting go.

Apparently we are one of the worst boards because we don't sing the endless praise of Newie. It's sad really.
I feel like other than Sea Eagle's we're probably all pretty hopeful for great success from our offseason adds, but most of us also add a fair amount of skepticism.

I would say this board is somewhat of a bipolar roller coaster mixed in with a few insiders, and Sea Eagles. Who knows with thefan anymore... he/she is on their own adventure. Plenty of boards are 2% logic and 98% uncontrolled koolaid chaos. Chicago fans actually seem to be pretty good.

Yeah we run hot and cold mostly during GDTs and are somewhat hard on team management overall. I think is stems from the Darks Ages that followed a period of great success. But overall this board is informed and knowledgable.

This truly is Kerfoot 2.0. It will be fun to watch that fanbase slowly come to their senses just like Leaf fans did. But the real loser here is Newhook. He would have been served better going to Anahiem or San Jose. The Canadian market is going to eat that kid alive.

Yeah I feel bad for him if he struggles right away. He's going to have to have a good first 30 games or so and if he doesn't, they'll turn on him quickly. Not ideal for a kid who has struggled and confidence isn't high. On the bright side, MSL doesn't really give a F about winning, playing sound defensive or structured hockey... so Newhook can basically forget about everything else and try to score.

I don't get the urge to tell them Newie is one thing or the other. Like EVERY forum here they are excited about their shiny new toy, let them enjoy.
I don't tend to go to other boards and comment much... I just don't find it worth the time and effort. I do appreciate posters coming over from other teams to give honest thoughts on players though. Adds to the conversation with a different point of view.

Now I do find the potshots rather funny and lurking on those can be entertaining.

Sounds like Duchene's dream... other than the whole media and opinion thing

Newhook does have something there to become a legit NHLer. This isn't a system that plays into his strengths. I can see him putting up 25G 25A next season.

I honestly think Duchene would have thrived in that environment. If you look back at Duchene's best seasons, they have always been on bad teams where he can just do whatever he wants offensively with little regard elsewhere on the ice. The only other time I think he played well outside of that was trying to make the Olympic team.

Curious if Duchene wore a letter at any point in his career.

Duchene wore a letter because Bednar likes his stars to wear letters and feel like they drive the bus for the team's success.

That's why he took the A away from McLeod and Iginla that year and gave it to Dutchy and Nate.

It's not like Duchene displayed a lot of leadership those 14 games where he was upset the Avs hadn't traded him yet.

Montreal fans hate it, but the reality is his comparable really is what Drouin was in his best years... Probably more goals and less assists. But a similar level of impact.

Which isn't a bad player exactly, Drouin in his best years was a solid Top 6 winger that chipped in 50+ points.

But he's not going to be a Center in the NHL and he's not going to be some top tier 1st liner sort either. If het turns into 20 Goal, 50 point winger(Maybe 25/60 given where scoring is at now) then that's a pretty decent player and one Montreal fans should be happy with.

But that's also a player that you should never, never, never, be trading a 1st + 2nd + Prospect for.

That second photo was from their media event that I believe happens either before or early on in training camp.

Bednar didn't give Duchene the A until after training camp right before game 1.

The second photo was taken at training camp a couple of months before he was traded. He had the "A" the previous season.
