The second photo was taken at training camp a couple of months before he was traded. He had the "A" the previous season.

True, I guess I was thinking of the previous season. For some reason I thought Bednar only coached Duchene the year he was traded. I had a distinct memory that Duchene was traded soon after Roy left, but it was over a year later. Legit feels like some kind of weird Mandella effect.

Haven't been in this thread too much, how much of a chance Fairbrother could be a sneaky good acquisition?
None IMO. I'm basing this off of development camp so take this for what it's worth, but I legitimately thought he was some low level invite until I realized he was part of the Newhook trade.

Fairbrother has significant injury history already so no surprise he is raw and behind in development, if there even is much to go for after his injuries.

17-18 injured somehow in a fight (freak injury, whatever that means), missed 36 games straight
18-19 -
19-20 upper body, missed last 23 games of season
20-21 shortened covid season, had covid
21-22 upper body, missed 47 games
22-23 did not play, knee injury before season start

Ps. So, our kind of guy for sure :sarcasm:

Obviously our sacrifice to the injury gods. Very shrewd pick up.

Fairbrother under Cronin would have been interesting to watch. Not that I think much is there, but enough that maybe Cronin could have found something in his game. It remains to be seen what it'll look like now under new leadership. Overall though, Fairbrother was one of those good at everything, but great at nothing sort of defenders in junior. Those are typically the type that don't translate into the NHL all that well. He's had a ton of injuries and coming off his latest... I would worry about one of his few bigger strengths, his skating, taking a step back. One thing I know of him, every coach loves him. He's a no frills, show up everyday and work sort of kid. Low maintenance and coachable. That'll probably give him some run in the AHL to prove he belongs.

For those who are not keeping track, Newhook has 3G 1A in 5 games, scoring a point in 3 of 5 games. I know that before I finish my beer, an avalanche of criticism will come my way. And I know most of those posts will predict those will be 50% of his season scoring. But why not be happy for the kid? By all accounts he was a good guy, and there seemed to be a Newhook/Byram/ LOC cadre building. He simply was not a fit for what the Avs have and / or need.

If anyone is still holding ill will against Newhook they need to just let it go. He ended up giving the team exactly what it needed while hopefully finding a good home for himself. Easy to root for the win/win here.
That's total BS. I am happy for the return we got for him, but he flopped with Avalanche.

Also, he was weak in the playoffs and, in general, too soft.(that's a killer for me and Sakic and Co, as we have seen for Kerfoots of the world).

He was friendly, but we didn't need him or his profile.

Nothing more to say.

In the end the trade could be a win for both sides.

Super happy for Newy, he deserves it.

Still wildly prefer Colton and first round pick.

I wish Newhook, and Jost for the matter, well; but I'm glad they're both gone. Ultimately, if you are not part of the solution, you are part of the problem. They were not the players we needed here. Doesn't mean that a team can't use them, or they can't be useful to another team it just means that they were never going to be part of the solution here. Their games were terrible fits for where their talent level allowed them to slot in here.

Who here holds any ill will towards Newhook? His skill set wasn’t going to be beneficial for either party. He’s now in a spot where he can potentially utilize his skills to their potential assuming he can stay on the wing.
