Screw the picks. I want more of THIS

I would have lovd for this kid to have played under Cronin. There’s enough talent to be an extra, maybe 6 if his knee is still solid. Without knowing our AHL situation I have significantly more doubt.

I'm assuming that AJ is going to cry about this trade too.
From where I’m sitting, I can’t help but wonder if the Avalanche looked at their current situation and decided that giving Newhook a meaningful raise (in the area of $2M per year should be about where he lands) to continue being a misfit in their lineup was less appealing than, say, potentially re-signing J.T. Compher to be the club’s 3C next year and paying upwards of $4M per year for him.

He’s nothing. Solid AHL player.
I think he may a bit better than that. Was a promising prospect until his development was stalled by a string of injuries. Is aggressive in the defensive zone and has some offensive flair. If he can overcome his predilection for injuries, he projects to be a depth NHL defenseman. Not a bad throw in. Not bad at all.

I think if you get offered that kind of value for a player that still has major question marks around him, you have to take it and run. That's more than Newy was worth to us with the way the roster is set up, now they just have to find a way to flip these picks for something else in the next 24 hours.

I honestly don’t have an issue with him.

Where I hate it is that he’s then the defacto 2C as soon as there’s an injury. I would prefer a different style center than him.

Exactly. He is not good enough to be second line center. Otherwise he is fine.

Very well could be. They are short on prospects in the system, so wouldn't be shocked at all if they re-signed JTC, and just drafted three players. Still, have to think they use at least one of those 1sts to target someone..
Prospect development takes forever and in our case never works out, so... I'd happily trade the picks. This team is in win mode now. Not in five years. Those late first round picks will be valuable to our team in 3-4 years maybe? Way too long time..

I think Avs will use the 37th pick in a trade and use the two 1sts to draft. They traded away prospects last year for the cup run and probably thinking they need to restock

I can't believe people would side with CMac, after last season.

His ineptitude literally might have cost us a Cup.

This year's Cup was extremely winnable. Vegas was tough but not unbeatable. But CMac did nothing to even give us a fighting chance. That's unforgivable in my eyes.

The guy is in over his head, and these rash of moves it's clearly being strongly aided by Sakic, who actually built a winner.

Either way we were done after Nuke went loco, so whatever. It wasn't our year.

Remember when we all thought we would do something at the TDL? lol you just never know what they are planning. Flipping the picks is the logical move but I can also see them using those picks haha
Seriously it would be on a level with the trade deadline.. frustration that is

I thought it was a bit premature to give up on him given his age but we all saw what happened with Jost and Joey Hishon. Better to flip him while he's still worth something. Hopefully these picks lead to a good trade

He had the whole last season time to prove himself but he didn't. In the end we didn't trust him at all.

It was great point to trade him.

Somehow kept pulling him in boxes. Now I just need CMac to flip Girard to Toronto in a package for Nylander and I'll be eating good this week.
How strong is the hockey card market? Probably not as good as baseball, but have you seen any increase?

A timeline of events:

- We lose Kadri

- CMac says we're gonna handle the 2C internally by giving some guys a chance to step up

- JTC ends up winning the job because he gets Rants on his line for a month while MacK is injured, giving him a career year. Be sure to thank Mikko when you get that 5M from the Hawks.

- We trade for Eller at the deadline

- Newhook can't even come close to winning a puck battle, let alone beating out JTC or Eller for a top six spot.

- Newhook is wisely traded before his value enters Jost territory.

Sums up Newhook situation well. Great trade.
