There were times tonight when it seemed the Rangers had six skaters (& one goalie). They were all over the place, I can't say I've seen it like that since the early 90's.

Well, the team plays better with good goaltending. We see that with Talbot. Now that Henrik is getting out of his gigantic funk, the team should repnd in turn.

Another good win.

DZ had a great game tonight, nice to see him get his confidence back.

Carcillo also had a good game, hit everything in sight. He's not the same player he was in Philly, it seems.

Dz had a terrible game he got caught three or four times even Sam and Joe said he looked out of place

MDZ made a ton of great breakout passes, was seeing the ice really well tonight. He made a couple bad pinches but backchecked hard

Nash's goal was an unbelievable effort.

Solid W against a good team.

Make fun of me all you want...but Carcillo bundling that guy in the corner brought a huge smile to my face. I will never not want to watch that.

Yea he laid a couple hits and won some board battles...honestly I like having that fourth line they seem to create good forecheck

Del Zotto had a very strong and physical game. When he plays like that he is extremely valuable and worth keeping. John Moore on the other hand was shaky with positioning, decision making, and turnovers.

More of the same from John Moore. But he is a great skater tho! :sarcasm:

Del Zotto is better than John Moore at just about everything besides skating. Well skating and the fact that Moore is cheaper and still on his ELC.

Other than that, I think Del Zotto has gotten a raw deal from AV. I think MDZ has looked much improved the last 5 games or so. Funny what playing consistently can do for the kid. I think if AV shows some trust in him, MDZ can be a solid D in this system. We'll see though, he's probably going to get traded and put it together with another club. BTW, I've never been much of a fan of Del Zotto, more indifferent towards him. However, this year I just feel he's gotten a raw deal so far.

BTW the Hagelin-Richards-Callahan line was very strong, our most consistent forward line 5v5. Richards has looked very good lately and Cally is getting back to his old self. I like that line a lot. LOL at people saying Richards picked up two phantom assists, he made a nice quick pass on the first goal after getting his shot blocked. He's looked very solid and leaves very little to complain about with his play lately.

Win #290 for Henrik Lundqvist. 11 to tie, 12 to pass Mike Richter as the New York Rangers all-time winningest goaltender.

Bang. He is also 3 shutouts away from passing Giacomin and being the NYR all-time shutout leader,

Our players find a way to achieve milestones in down years. Richards 1st career hat trick last year, Lundqvist winningest in what will be his worst season.

I thought Richie played well. A couple shifts he wasn't moving his legs which bothered me, especially in the 3rd period.

Del Zotto bodied off a lot of forwards tonight. He got the positioning, shielded the puck, and was able to start the other way. That was the DZ we saw last year during Staal's absence. He played very well. I hope it continues. Not looking at the time sheet, but it just seems like he is getting more ice time and AV may be gaining some confidence in him. I'd prefer him to stay simply because I don't see us getting a fair return for him.

I thought AV made a mistake with that 4-on-3 in terms of personnel on the ice. Nash and his linemates didn't do anything to deserve to be on the ice for that. Zucc and Brassard should've been out there. My guess is AV's concern was not having a shoot first mentality player out there if he put Brassard and Zucc out there instead of Stepan and Nash. Then again with the way Zucc has been passing lately, he can find someone for a simple tap in.

Didn't catch the game, but checking out the goals now.

Cally's reminds me why i'm so tentative to get rid of him. Love watching him play and good things just happen when he's on his game.

Zuke with the great pass, and a really good deflection from my own personal whipping boy Brass.

As Nash's biggest hater, his goal was great too. No give by Steps and Kreider, and Nash with the really difficult goal.

Maybe I should've bolded QUALITY CHANCES. It doesn't matter. If you're comparing a perennial underachiever to a guy that's arguably the best that's ever played at his position for an original 6 franchise then there isn't much of a point.

Richter won us a cup.

I still can't believe that "pinch" by Staal, if you could even call it that. My god what even was that?

The one that preceded the second Dallas goal? Now that we have won the game I actually think that goal is pretty hilarious TBH. Moore breaks into the zone pretty much all by himself and loses the puck pretty deep in the Dallas zone, but when Eakin turns it around three other Rangers are caught up ice for some reason and the Stars come down the ice on basically a 4 on 1 against Strålman.

How the hell did that happen?

I was worried they were going to find a way to lose this game because they've had so many bad third periods this year but they hung in there and got the job done. Henrik was Henrik.

DZ was great tonight. Haters gonna hate. He was physical and made good passes. He did his job.

Pouliot on the PP is awesome, even strength not so much. The guy is too inconsistent to be a top six player, but he's big enough where if he reinvents himself as a power forward, he can make a good living and be an affordable 20G-20A goalie screening option like how David Jones was on Colorado, and Bates Battaglia and Mike Leclerc were in the early 2000s. I know this is crazy but if the PP stays in the top 10, I wouldn't mind bringing him back for cheap because he's a big reason why.

I liked Carcillo's game tonight. I admit to not liking the guy (and he looks like he's trying too hard to be clean cut in the big city with the lack of soul patchness :laugh:) but if he plays this way, maybe they can move one of Boyle/Moore/Dorsett at the deadline and get back a higher pick than they gave up for Carcillo.

Yeah, he is moving decently out there. Getting involved in the play. That is nice to see.

Boyle was extremely strong tonight, you know, in his role. That helps Carcillo a lot too of course, he gets to play at the right side of the rink and especially not in the neutralzone.

i laugh at the people who said a good pp coach didn't matter and we just didnt have the personnel for a good PP

Why, these guys are the experts and we are just fans! ;)

Seriously though, this new approach of us, where we got a guy at the top of the crease that often only function as another option for the puck carrier is a pretty new set-up (new for me probably means 5 years old), and its working really well. After seeing it enough here to figure it out, it instantly becomes obvious that its how Philly have played for a several years. I always had hard time figuring out why Philly could have such good PP despite having too many lefty's on the ice.

I would say that most teams in the league plays the PP as we did the previous years. But we couldn't execute it because we didn't have good enough righties, and then Nash and Gabby wasn't good enough to handle the puck as one of the lefties next to BR. When a PK put pressure on us, we just couldn't throw the puck around on a string like you gotta be able to do if you are going to play keep away on the out side.

Now we are getting a player into that role mentioned above -- inside the box -- and that puts down the PK box and get us set-up.

Also, we are talking a lot about roster moves right now. We should also notice that Brad Richards and Derric Brassard both are essential to our top PP unit. We shouldn't underestimate Poo's play lately, its been good for sure, but he can be replaced easily. The production can vary, but the function of the PP won't be hurt if you stick anyone from Nash to Boyle into his role.

But the "midfield" of;
--------Poo--------------
Zucc-Brassard----------
-----------------Richards
------McD---------------;
can't be overrated. I mean, what Brassard contributes really much with in that role is those top notch passes. Cross-zone crisp passes. One pass like that gets you set-up and the PK box passive. You cannot replace Brassard on that unit with you know Stepan or Callahan or someone like that.
