That's not really how this works. If it was a true one on one, Smith coming in on Shattenkirk and they're alone in the zone, Shattenkirk plays that completely differently.

What actually happened is that it was a 2v3 rush for LV, and Shattenkirk kept his man to the outside, assuming that the Rangers having numbers back would not allow the puck to cross the royal road.

It should be pretty easy to comprehend where the actual breakdown in this play was.

Comprehend? Ya OK lol

Really the play should've been stopped in the neutral zone but since that didn't happen #22 should've ran him through the boards near the blue line.
I don't even care if he had to take an (acceptable) penalty there.
Take Smith out.
That's his job in that situation and that's how it works.

That pic is missing one of two things.

1- Smith laying on the ice closer to the blue line.
2- #22 spawled across the ice and taking away the pass.

Let it go man lol
We sit on different sides of systemic strategy but that's cool.
Nothing wrong with that even if your teams continue to lose o_O

1) That is not AV hockey, at all
2) Yeah, let's go back to Girardi making snow-angels on the ice. If KS22 leaves his feet there, RS19 has a free lane to step around him and have a mini-breakaway.

My teams continue to lose because my coach is a moron, not because Shattenkirk correctly played a 2v3 rush, and the other two players were guarding invisible men.

Rangers played hard tonight, played much better then last night. Coach put out a lineup that played their butts off. Anyone putting down his lineup shouldn’t be allowed to watch them play. They played the team with the best record in the West, on the second end of a back to back when the other team was rested, on the road and lost 2-1. With the backup goalie and no Hayes most of the game. No one to blame, the other team gets paid also. Point would have been nice.
It was fifth game in 8 days for Vegas.

I will not and can not.

For the record :thumbu:

Why are you doubling down? You’ve watched countless Rangers hockey. You’ve seen this is how we defend zone entries, and Shatty did exactly what he’s supposed to do. You take away the middle and then force the puck outside.

Your suggestion now is to have Shatty give up his body completely? His stick was in the passing lane and his body is in position to seal Smith off if he goes to the net. if this is Torts hockey, yes, he collapses that down and let’s him go behind the net. He did what AV and Ruff coached him to do.

It’s amazing that through all of this we aren’t shredding Boo, Skjei, or Carey for all being within 5 f***ing feet of each other on the backcheck. That’s where your gripe should be. Put Smith in Skjei’s shoes: now tell me how you evaluate this play? I’m curious where your biases lead you

I was just thinking to myself how the analysis of this play would breakdown if Skjei and Shattenkirk swapped places.

We'd be destroying Shattenkirk for losing Karlsson. Rightfully so. Awful awareness from Skjei and Nieves on this play.

Girardi is no longer a NYR but I see what you did there lol

I will never wrap my head around defending a player who's primary job is to defend and yet fails miserably at it time and time again or shying away making "snow angels" if it prevents a GWG.

Just because he's offensively gifted does not mean that you stop defending.
There's another team on the ice..

You're right. Let's agree to disagree on literally everything from now until the end of time.

This is why I hate AV defense. I love AV offense, but like I’ve been saying all year, it’s about pressure and counterattacking. If Gallant can get this ragtag group of players to defend how I want, why can’t AV. It won’t affect their offensive strategy. Lateral passing and switching won’t cease to exist if you make your players stop circling and chasing on defense. It drives me f***ing nuts. That and our forecheck.

No it may not be wrong, but if that is the case.......then why aren't we giving kudos to AV and his staff? Were we supposed to win the cup this year? We are def flawed, but so are other teams. It's just apparently astounding to me, how Vegas can look so good in their overall game. A bunch of players thrown together with basically no history with one another. Players playing for new contracts seem to be major motivation and an "us against the world" attitude. Those non believers. Lol.
What were Vegas Vegas odds to win the cup? Hmmmm.
Supposed to win the Cup? No. Supposed to be ready to play? Yes. Supposed to be able to defend? Yes. It is one thing to be flawed. It is another to be flawed and play a system which leaves your goalie out to dry for most of the game.

We're just talking hockey here which is cool ;)

I just don't agree that Shatty played it the right way and to your point, I think Skjei would've put Smith through the boards.

System's and other player mistakes aside, #22 (or/ insert any dman in that position at the time) HAS to take out Smith there.
No other way around it.

The game was on the line..

It was a one on one from the blue line to the goal line.
That's a long distance to go untouched in your own D zone.
Agree to disagree..
You keep saying "agree to disagree" when people present facts to you and they don't go along with your point of view so you dismiss it.

It's not agree to disagree when you're as wrong as you are.

"2+2 is 5"

"No, it's 4"

"Well, agree to disagree"

It doesn't work like that.

I'm not dismissing anything and I respect your opinion but at the same time you guy's got the play you wanted and it lost us the game.
Makes no sense too me..

This team has average at best NHL talent outside of the goaltending. Now you’re going to give them 5 days off and they come out totally rusty with a few big injuries against the Islanders and Halak who own us in a 1 pm start. Anyone thinking they have even a remote shot Saturday under these circumstances doesn’t know the Rangers
