Weird how you like Jfresh cards and are acting like this is the best American defenseman.

There should be a balance between the eye test and adv stats. While not lighting it up on the adv stat chart, the eye test tells you he's one hell of a dman with a very bright future. I don't think that is controversial at all.

Now that said, he did develop well. The Faber of today is not necessarily the Faber that Blake traded for Fiala.

Clarke is a good player, but he's fallen from what he was booked as from a prospect stand point.

There are massive holes in his game. He's essentially the same defensive mess as Kris Letang and Erik Karlsson, but on the other spectrum.

If you think Sullivan can fix that, maybe you have a good piece, but he is largely not succeeding in LA because the staff prefers a stay at home guy on the 2nd pairing and trusts Doughty on the PP and in offensive minutes.

I don't think Clarke pans out to be the top pairing guy he was projected to be.

I don't think this is the crux of the argument. This could all be 100% true but it doesn't preclude this from being the sort of ticket you buy if you are the Pens trading Rakell. Fact remains that of the realistic returns, this would probably be the most valuable. If it truly is realistic, I mean.

I don't like Jfresh cards. I just find it funny that Empo posts them a lot and then makes contradicting claims.

I would do a 26 1st with reduced protection (only top 5-10 instead of full lottery) and Turcotte. Think LA could fall off next year.

Clarke is talented but I think he might be more of a really good PP1 QB that’s your 4th best d-man at ES on a good team.

I'm just commenting on why LA would be potentially moving him and why it may not be the grand ripoff that people think it is.

Similar to Jiricek.

I don't have a problem with Clarke being the centerpiece of a Rakell deal. I just question how effectively he'd develop here especially if we don't move EK65.

The Gourde/Bjorkstrand return should be interesting. I'd probably put those two combined at something close to Rakell.
I think they are worth a good bit more combined tbh.

Just came out it was two 1sts

Rakell feels like your classic 1st + B prospect + cap dump in all honesty. I think our trade for Zucker in the day is a good comp tbh.

I think the only thing that makes me hesitate with Greentree is he's another guy that is noted to have skating concerns, which isn't surprising considering the dude is like 6'3" and 220 lbs. I'm also curious for why he fell so far in the 2024 draft reading his profile, this doesn't seem like a guy that should have gone 26th overall. I would definitely want a plus with him for Rakell, straight up isn't enough for the Penguins.

I also understand the concerns with Clarke, he also was noted to have skating issues and his defense is a problem. I don't have a huge worry about his defense with who else the Penguins have in their D prospect pool, but I think Clarke would more likely be their 2nd pair RD going forward and probably needs a D partner like Pettersson. I think Pickering-Clarke would probably be their 2nd pair if Pickering would pan out.

I think I'd prefer Greentree and a 1st/2nd over Clarke, which I imagine is probably what the Penguins would be picking between. Moore, Greentree and a 2025 1st/2nd for Rakell looks like a stellar deal to me.

Literally zero excuse to not sell Rakell in this market. I think a 1st and B prospect may even be underestimating his return with what guys are going for right now.

back in my day we called it fapping

I dunno, Rakell is much better than Bjorkstrand, has an extra year, and Gourde is a mid-to-lower-tier 3C at this stage. At the very least, this shows the market is there to get a 1st at the minimum, no question.

Rakell has nearly as many goals as Bjorkstrand has points.

Rakell should be bringing back pretty damn close to 2 1sts himself.

I'm not sure I agree with Rakell being better than Bjorkstrand. Comparable players with Rakell having the PP edge, but Bjorkstrand probably being the better 5v5 driver.

I love Sid. But keeping Rakell “so Sid still has his winger” would be monumentally stupid. It reeks of something the organization would do though so I won’t be surprised when Rakell is still here after the deadline on Friday.
okay, but here's my problem with these things. Sid has never said that publicly. We have no clue if he's said something privately. The organization has not said they're shaping their decisions at the TDL based on Sid's feelings. Last year they traded Jake, which I'm sure upset him way more than trading Raks would.

So we take all of that, and then we have our personal feeling of "man keeping Raks just to make Sid happy is bonkers!" which is a reply to nothing more than message board banter, and it turns into 'heaven forbid we upset Sid!'

This isn't an isolated case and I'm not trying to single you out. This has been a common occurrence for over a decade. New winger with Sid? Sid is the actual GM. Even this year, oh, we gotta move Malkin around just for Sid! Like yea, the team is winning and stuff, but we're all just trying to make Sid happy and Malkin is being punished by having to... play with Sid?

Anyhow looks like Sid is being traded to Colorado, so this is all moot

Gourde feels like bottom 6er that always gets a 1st

1st for Bjorkstrand an overpay slightly IMO tho. Prob worth a 2nd. But TB not shy. They traded a draft for Jeannot.

That's pretty amazing. Bolts don't have a first this year, so those two firsts are likely even more valuable.

I assume Seattle has to take back a crappy player or two, Glendening comes to mind.

This is very interesting.

I assume Seattle is retaining on both. I imagine it's something like 2 1sts, Howard for Gourde at 50%, Bjorkstrand retained and throw in a couple 3rds from seattle.

Bjorkstrand also has another year left after this one so they are paying for term.
