What I can’t understand is why a local hockey play-by-play man is such lightning rod? Is he a great pbp guy? Not really. But if he were calling games for (insert smaller American market here) and not the Boston Bruins, would anyone notice? Would anyone care?

I’m sure his bosses will move on from him when they’re ready.

He's a lightning rod because he's such a freaking tool. It's like when you see some police lights when you are driving and you have to take a look.

Prime Edwards was a blast though. Sure he’s a homer and a dick but his excitement and raw energy was always entertaining - even as a fan of a team of the opposing side.

Because that's how awful he is.

In a sea of mediocrity, Edwards is constantly making a name for himself by saying things so incredibly stupid and being such an outrageous homer, even for a local hockey broadcaster.

There's a thread on the Bruins board about how off Jack has been this year (and actually for the past few season).

I don't think he's drinking on the job but something is definitely off. He's 65, I think his age has caught up to him.

I was stuck watching the Bruins feed last night and he was noticeably annoying. Maybe it's just that the Bruins are a good team this year and he's feeling himself. These comments I'm whatever about, I'm sure Maroon would laugh it off too.

I just find it fascinating that so many out of towners give two shits about him. I don’t even notice him unless someone here is talking about him.

People should just learn to laugh at shit. Like Jack is a huge nerd, says stupid shit that just makes me laugh because it’s so outrageous.

It’s not like a “this guy is hilarious” laugh, it’s like “this guy is an idiot laugh”

The guy is f***ed, but it’s hardly anything to get upset and worked up over like many in here are.

Boston is a big hockey market, O6 and has been a successful team for quite some time while he has a, let’s say different style than most PBPs, so he gets lots of exposure.

Even by cranking up my volume all the way up just to hear what he had to say (why do I have to do that? Just record it normally lol) what he said wasn't even that bad. I don't see the controversy here.

Just some rambling about IF and fat and eating.

In an era where you can be fired for saying "You people", I'd think fat shaming was a big no-no to advertisers.

Ironically, Frank Seravalli attended a party at Ray Ferraro's a few years back and apparently pounded down something like fourteen brisket sliders. This was talked about on the radio by Jeff O'Neill, another known fat man, and nothing seemed to come of it, so I assume fat people are still green-lit to make jokes about. But the times we live in means you'll hear some grumbling regardless.

This is just Jack being Jack. He is not a malicious person. Is he socially awkward and sometimes unthoughtful. You bet. Does he love the Bruins? To death. So if you want to really ruin a life go after Jack. What a sad world we are in these days. My god.

Aside from the bad look of making fun of someone's weight, the fact he's supposed to be professional and commenting on the play instead of insulting a player stands out as a reason this is wrong.

Imagine if Gord Miller doesn't call the action and instead just goes on and on about Matthews' gigantic nostrils or receding hairline for the entire shift. It would be completely unprofessional and unjustified for a play by play guy to spend his time on.

I mean most PBP announcers DO go on these tangents all the time. Especially HNIC crew. They'll not call play and tell stories or whatever.

Is it a dick move to make fun of someone? Of course. Am I clutching my pearls? No absolutely not. It's a 20 second tangent where he calls him fat, then compliments him for being a winner.

Maybe I am still underestimating how soft we as a society have become.
