He's the worst. I think the notion that no-one likes a homer is true. I certainly don't have any time for a homer, but others will have their own opinions. Yelling at Hamrlik to "Get Up"! - maybe Bruins fans love him, or at least defend him as one of their tribe - I understand that and might do the same (hope not but who knows). But at the end of the day - the clown is a total tool.

Love it. Pat Maroon is an NHL hockey player and in peak physical shape regardless of weight. Edwards cracking fun, people just genuinely suck if they think that's offense.

Except no one wants to be ugly and being heavy is an asset for a power forward. When it comes to the game, it's more akin to the length of the stick, if someone plays with an unusually long or short stick, they get attention for it, someone might even joke about it.

There's a reason hockey players get called "Big Rig" and "Big Buff" and not "Ugly Rig".

No he was joking about it in a critical way obviously, but being critical of an attribute that has both pros and cons and is relevant to the game is different than trying to insult or shame someone, which is what people claimed he did.

Jack Edwards might joke about Kakko playing with a ... I dunno " A stump of a hockey stick the size of a tooth pick", it will be critical, said in a joking manner and also be relevant to the game. And if he ends it by saying " Kakko got drafted second so obviously he's doing something right" he's admitting he doesn't always know best, so take it with a grain of salt.

I'm guessing younger NHL broadcasters would get cancelled asap if they tried something like this. I'm not a fan of commenting other people, but the way Edwards does it is just way too funny to be mad at him .

For years I have looked forward to Bruins games and Jack’s antics and his quirky commentary about “layers” and “can of corn” and the general weirdness of it all. He’s hilarious and I don’t care what boring politically correct TSN idiots like Servelli say. We love ya Jack no matter what happens. The Bruin haters will always hate and that’s fine by me.

This dude is terrible at his job. Seems terrible at being an intelligent, thoughtful human. For some reason, you’re comparing him to people who have committed atrocities.

And it's really veered off into some bizarre and unwarranted territory about his character as a person.

But what you Bruins fans apparently cannot grasp is that Edwards is - objectively - a terrible play-by-play announcer. It isn't even debatable. This thread is now 26 pages because of decades of him being that bad. Leah Hextall, for all of her lack of energy, terrible enunciation, and annoying timbre, can at least accurately describe what's happening on the ice most of the time. Edwards is such a homer, that the B's could lose 6-1, and he'd still make it sound like the Bruins were the better team. I've seen him call fights in which the the B's player ended up bloodied and slow-to-get-up, and he made it sound like the Bruins player won the fight. I think this is what's wrong with your fanbase. And it's not your fault. You listen to a distorted version of hockey long enough, you're going to have a distorted view of the game.

His comments here aside, he sounds like he’s drunk. He’s always been terrible.

As time passes we’ll lose more and more voices of the game. Bob Cole for example will be missed. Jack Edwards will not.

Radio commentators or TV commentators? Because there is a difference and you're wrong if you meant the Lightning TV crew. Dave Randorph and Brian Engblom are a very good crew. Of course they have a Lightning slant, that is who signs the check, but there is not another TV PbP guy in the league that I've listened to that is as biased as Edwards. It's not close.

He's the team broadcaster. It's not really his job to be impartial, he's calling Bruins hockey regionally. He's no worse than basically any of the homers calling games in Canada.

I think Edwards is intentionally acting idiotic as he knows any one affiliated with the Bruins gets a pass. Boston (and Philadelphia) always seem to get a pass for acting crazy and obnoxious.

I stopped looking at NHL standings a few years back when I figured out all I have to do is look at the first page on the main board at HF to see if the Bruins were doing well.
