I see all the skinny, never-been-hated folks came out to comment how sad they think it is to get upset by this. Blame it on cancel culture or something

Why is it always the most privileged in society that feel the need to dispel the shortcomings and tribulations others have to go through?

Whats hilarious is 90% of these posters would fold like a cheap suit if offended by something that actually bothers them. But since it doesnt involve them, ' its just a millionaire being called fat guys whats the big deal '

id ask those who think this is nothing what offends them and how much they make but... nobody cares about them. but MAN do they care about others being offended or not and love dictating that for them

I've read this 4 times and I still don't know what side you are on.

I'm pretty fat, I would be just the person to be rightfully upset according to you. I'm not, so don't make assumptions about who's disagreeing with you.

Weight is a part of what make the players the players they are. Skinny players get outmuscled and can barely affect big guys when they throw a check. Bigger guys are slow and less mobile.

Making a tame joke about someone having a lot of pizzas because they are big is just not offensive to me. Especially when followed by acknowledging the Stanley cup rings that player has. It's just not something that registers as mean or ill-spirited to me.

I have heard people complain about Edwards before, he isn't Fred Cusick by any means. But let's get over the comments already. Whatever happened to the days when Patrick Roy said: "I can't hear Jeremy (Roenick) talk on the ice because I have my two Stanley Cup rings plugged in my ears!" Maroon has three by the way. This is the fattest and most obese time in the history of the world and people hate to hear it. Now, obviously Maroon isn't obese, or even overweight. I think it was just a joke and that's about it, Edwards went too long with it when it wasn't funny anymore, just irritating. But relax with the hyper over the top reaction people. It isn't healthy to be overweight.

Signed............................a 6'2" 290lbs. man who, while built like a retired offensive NFL lineman, still has a belly bigger than he should.

same here.

although I prefer calorically challenged.

Society needs to stop rewarding these clowns with attention. These types of personalities know they can achieve “success” by simply loudly saying inflammatory, controversial shit over and over. There’s obviously people doing this schtick worse, but it’s the same shit. Shit can this clown immediately.
I agree. Servali is an idiot. We should ignore him. Excellent point you make.

he's simply a terrible human being, at his very core.

I get why many people don't like Edwards - I'm not particularly fond of him, though I don't believe I've ever actually listened to a game he's broadcast and am just going off clips I've seen on this forum.

That being said, to call him a "terrible human being" just based on what you've heard from his hockey broadcasts and nothing else is utterly ridiculous. If you want to offer up some actual proof to what makes him such a monster, I'm all ears.

Edwards always has been and always will be a clown. He's said worse things than this and will more than likely continue to do so since Bruins fans overlook how terrible he is because he cheers for their team openly on TV broadcasts. He is like a radio broadcaster with his level of homer, but on television. One of a kind in that regard.

That being said, it was extremely immature. 3 year olds make fat jokes. It was an ill advised attempt at a joke that rightfully fell flat. Getting flak for saying dumb things is fair game.

I said it upthread a bit, but I'm not a small man. Granted, a lot of it is muscle..................but not all of it
:D

That being said, I think this ties into just how soft the NHL has gotten. How easily offended people get. 20 years ago or more, you would have gone out of your way to make sure people realized you didn't care about that comment. You might have laughed it off.

I've had a couple of moments in my life where I couldn't get on a roller coaster. I tried, it just didn't close all of the way. Oh well. Hey, maybe I should have a salad a little more often. It's on me. I am not saying people should deliberately be mean. No one should go out of their way to insult someone fat, but this isn't what I gathered with Edwards. It seemed sort of natural and one of those situations where he just sort of said it on the fly.

haha, that's a good defense!

This very instance. He's making fun of someone because of his looks/weight. Thats different than if he just said he was bad at hockey or something like that. Making fun of peoples physical looks is low. Its called 'Body Shaming'.

So your assessment for labeling someone as "a terrible human being, at his very core" is a 40 second clip? A clip in which it can be more than reasonably argued that he's making a poor attempt at a joke? That is one hell of a low bar.

Have you ever said anything in your lifetime that you regret that could (according to your guidelines) make you a "terrible human being, at your very core"?

One of a kind? Both sets of announcers in your very state are extremely homer and terrible as well....

I’m looking forward to Jack explaining tomorrow during the broadcast how he became a media star overnight and Brick’s facial contortions as he does…this will be entertaining.

Jack is a tool but this was nothing really. But his peers and other me me me hockey personas going all cancel on him is kind of a big deal. Calling him drunk and shit. Like what the f*** is going on.

Jack is mostly an act which annoys me most. Like to the level of the Penguins guys who know they're bad because they annoy opposing fans and play it up.

God I wish we still had Gaucher here instead.

seems to me like the idea is that the players can talk about it, and broadcasters should maybe focus more on the play-by-play and less on taking unprofessional, agonizing jabs at the players.

Jack Edwards seems to think he's, like, Shaq and Charles Barkley-level and goes directly in on guys he should absolutely not be going in on because it's not his lane

On something so dumb. So miniscule. A complete nothing burger. Theres no controversy here, no matter how much people are trying their best.

Never change main thread, never change 🙄

Being skinny doesn’t mean being priviliged, often it means working hard. Obviously, that’s hard to even imagine for others.

And being fat is extremely unhealthy and it should be talked about. If the cost of people finally realising it is your feelings being hurt, so be it.

"Yikes, that person is so ugly.... but pretty kind!"

Let's all cheer for excellent sugar coating!

Isn't this a bit extreme? I can't stand Edwards and think he's a massive dork, but one ill-advised comment doesn't mean someone is a terrible human being. I heard him interviewed on a podcast and I came out of it with a better opinion of the guy.

So many judgmental people in this world (and this thread) who apparently have never said anything dumb in their entire lives. I doubt you are a better person than Jack.
