Some people are looking for change, just for the sake of change. Sometimes it's just a few changes that makes all the difference, and the players maturing, taking the next step... and maybe not being injured.

I'm not sold on PLD. He has the talent to be that guy, but I'm not sure he has the drive... I'm also not sure his price tag is in line with what he provides, nor do I believe he really wants to come here.

And that is the question with him will he sign an extension? obviously if his heart is set on Montreal you don't make that deal because chances are the 28th pick would be involved and that's OK if he's willing to extend because then he's a long term solution at the #2 center spot.

Same reason why I wouldn't hate a Carter Hart trade involving 28 because that's a long term solution in net.

I can definitely see some prospect swaps with Tre at the helm.

Maybe something like Niemela for a center prospect or a defensive Dman.

Steeves just doesn't have what is needed out of a depth player 5v5. I liked McMann while he was up, and he did show some promise. I would like to see what he can do with some runway. Hopefully Robertson comes back, learns to play and score in the NHL, and learns to play a game where he can stay in the lineup. He certainly does have the drive.

I wonder if Niemela is too small for the direction we will likely go with Treliving.

If Holmberg learns faceoffs, and puts on some more strength in this offseason, he could be a really good option for us. His numbers would have been much better last year, if the guys he played with, could have put the puck in the net.

Niemela's size is fine. He's not overly physical or whatever but he can skate and has great skill. He also plays a pretty smart game. If he's traded, it better be for a damn good player. I am pretty sure he took over the Marlies #1 minutes.

Steeves isn't that great but he's got a lot of intangibles to his game in terms of work ethic and board work. Maybe his underlying numbers aren't that good and he hasn't been as good this season compared to his rookie season but I think he's a fit on the fourth line as a cheap energy player. He's pretty replaceable though.

The one prospect that I think will be traded and doesn't quite have a spot is Abruzzese. I think a rebuilding team would love him as a shot in the dark.

Treliving has drafted and signed plenty of average/under sized players in his time in Calgary. As long as they are good I think he's fine building a team that has a good mix of players. I don't see him going the way people think he will go.

Winnipeg - marner, Samsonov
Montreal - Dubois, prospect
Leafs - Anderson, Hellebuyck

mess around other pieces

While at it:

Vancouver - Nylander
Toronto - JT Miller

spit and polish ...

Arizona - Matthews
Toronto - Crouse, Keller
I cannot stress how much I :heart::heart::heart::heart::heart::heart: this post.

Depends on the return.

Treliving wants to add some size, and he has no attachments to any of our current prospects. I think we see some swaps.
lets hope he isnt stupid enough to make deal only for the sake of making deals. we have very few prospects that we should hang onto, and he is one of the 3-4 we shouldnt move, unless he's part of a deal to get a true #1D

Do we really see him in that light? Being a focal point in a package for a no.1 dman?

A defenceman I can see Treliving having interest in is Sanheim, especially with Philadelphia heading into a full out rebuild. He brings size, puck mobility, is a good skater, isn’t overly physical but blocks shots.

Philadelphia could very well be a destination to unload Muzzin’s contract.

To Toronto: Travis Sanheim
To Philadelphia: Jake Muzzin + Nick Robertson + 1st Round Draft Pick

Anderson-Miller-Keller
Crouse-Tavares-…Jarnkrok?

Well hey at least we’ll fix our lack of C prospects because this group is drafting top5 next year.

I mean it wouldn’t be making a deal to be making a deal.

It would help shape the farm in the mould that he wants. Right now our prospect system is pretty barren, and whatever we do have is skilled, undersized players. Not the way Treliving has built his teams in the past.

I think there will be a lot of changes to be made, maybe not with the core, but a lot with the supporting cast and farm.

All they have to do is give some of the younger players more leash instead of loading up on average depth players. Give Niemela, Knies, Robertson, Holmberg, McMann and Steeves more or less a spot on the roster. That's decent to good cheap depth and checkmark the younger and faster aspects of it. A couple of them play heavy as well.

The shopping list would then be a center and a winger totaling a max of 12M total assuming Murray is dumped.

Added a center and a winger, its not what leafs did with oreilly and knies?

Why just repeating the same thing and hope different issues.. if its didnt worked, maybe it was just not where the problem was...

The summer goalie market is going to be hot. Are Carter Hart trade talks warming up?

It was just a few short years ago that Carter Hart was considered the future of the goaltender position, but recent struggles point perhaps to a fresh start needed on both sides. At just 24 years old, with an affordable $3.979-million cap hit for 2023-24 after which he remains under team control as an RFA, and with a ceiling as high as his, Hart will be a very intriguing name to watch in what is shaping up to be a really interesting goalie market.

“It’ll be interesting to see what happens with Hart,” said Friedman. “I’m getting some very, very different feedback on what’s going on here. I’ve got some people saying it’s nowhere near close, and I’ve got some people saying they thought it was getting pretty hot. So, what this says to me is that he’s out there, everyone knows he’s available, and people are kind of picking at the Flyers and saying, ‘Okay, what are we gonna do here?’ I think there’s gonna be some teams here that we haven’t thought about.”

Friedman pointed to the Montreal Canadiens, Toronto Maple Leafs, Buffalo Sabres, and Ottawa Senators as clubs he’s had sources point to.

“I think everybody knows that Danny Briere is open for business,” he said. “What I get a disagreement on is how close any of this is, and that’s going to be the most fascinating thing over the next few days.”

Toronto Maple Leafs: “I had a few people really point at Toronto. Now, the interesting thing about this is, I always wonder because Treliving’s the GM in Toronto now and he makes a lot of calls. He’s in on everything. And one of the things I kind of remembered was, now that he’s here we’re gonna hear Toronto being involved in more things simply because I think he is a guy who really looks out there for what’s available … I’ve had some real mixed messages on this one — I had one denial it wasn’t gonna be Toronto, but I had some other people say ‘Just keep looking at it.’

“And the one challenge here is, let’s say it was Toronto: They’d have to do something with Matt Murray. Well, Philly’s off the board now. It would be easy, if they wanted to trade for Carter Hart, say ‘Okay, you take Matt Murray.’ Well, Philly just did that with Cal Peterson. So, if Toronto’s gonna be in this, that means you’re letting go of Samsonov and Woll is your other goalie next year but you have to find something to do with Murray.”

Checking in on the off-season goalie carousel

As outlined on the podcast, there’s a long — and potentially growing — list of goalies that could be moved this off-season. Some of the bigger names to watch are Winnipeg’s Connor Hellebuyck, Anaheim’s John Gibson, Philadelphia’s Hart, and Pittsburgh’s Tristan Jarry.

Islanders dangling extra centres?

In his (long-awaited) post-locker-cleanout media availability, New York Islanders general manager Lou Lamoriello dangled a well-placed comment about his roster currently boasting five centres: Mat Barzal, Casey Cizikas, Bo Horvat, Brock Nelson, and Jean-Gabriel Pageau.

In other words, perhaps centreman-needy teams should give him a call.

Friedman, citing a conversation with a source, said the Islanders are believed to be looking for a right defenceman and another forward who can score.

Montreal loves it even more. They get Dubois and a prospect for Anderson.
Dubois is another self centred softy so they can have him. Anderson's up and down, but at least he can bring a physical presence and has a bit of scoring touch.

So they shouldn't add a center and a winger? I'm confused.

Me too, but plenty of hate for Anderson here if I remember correctly………

The problem with anderson its people who want him in Toronto are the same who want to move out softy player and think it will be different with him

But they dont understand than anderson its kind of player whos gonna play hard once every 4 game.

So they shouldn't add a center and a winger? I'm confused.

I dont think it should be a priority, no... its was just not the problem...

It wasn't the problem. I'm not saying it was. But they need players with a few players probably leaving. Are we not supposed to add players to fill the ranks?
