Oh for sure. Offense is what I would focus on, but there needs to be a limit. To be fair, the team does need to learn how to score in the playoffs.

Im speaking in context to Mack who was being looked down for not winning hart/lindsayWell he did win back to back Rockets, finishing 2nd in Hart voting three years ago before winning the Hart two years ago...
Falling off seems a big much since he still posted 40 goals and 85 points in 74 games .. this with the lowest shooting percentage of his career (12%) ... with a bit more luck shoots his career average (15%) that would peg him for 50 goals. It was still a good season, just not great like we saw the previous two.
Do you understand why his stats went down? It was injury related.Winning an award one year and then falling off the next is not worth 12.6M
Mack came 5th in hart this year and has been around that leve pretty much every year since 2018
He has 100 pts in 77 playoff games
Mack has been more consistent than Matthews while Matthews has peaked higher.
Still no one says Mack at 8 years 12.6M is a discount. Hes getting top money for being a top player
If matthews takes 12.6M at 8 years thats no discount, just a top player getting top money for full term
He came N/A, N/A, and 10th in hart votes before 2021 and 2022.Do you understand why his stats went down? It was injury related.
There is no counter to that. He's elite and was injured all season.
If leafs are put off by Nylander at $9M what do they do next summer when Marner is starting with 13M???
He's probably destined for a McDavid reunion in EDM but I would welcome Downtown Connor Brown at the right price.Duchene would solve a big need for us. If you can get him and Brown, it really improves the top 9.
Sounds like an oiler or hurricane reclamation project alreadyI've read from some that Duchene is an absolute cancer in the room. This isn't the first time he's been moved for off-ice/culture issues
Seems odd that there wasn't one taker for Duchene @ 50% ($4 million). Saves Nashville money, and gives the other team 3 years of cost certainty.
It's a very good deal.He came N/A, N/A, and 10th in hart votes before 2021 and 2022.
His injury being season long is extremely concerning and if it impacted him in the playoffs and wasnt just an excuse that matthews fanboys typically make for him leafs should factor for that in contract discussions.
Matthews having 2 peak years is great but you cant commit 12.6M on a 3-5 year deal and pretend thats a steal when his performance is not often that of a top 5 player
Edit: I'm not saying he isnt worth Mack money on a similar term deal (7 or 8 years).
I am saying that pretending 12.6M is a great steal or discount is absurd
The Duchene pitch should be very simple: sign a one year deal at decent value (3.5-5 million), get to play at home with elite talent on an elite regular season team. Pad your stats so next year when the cap spikes you can sign another big deal
We present a very good opportunity for him
Holland mooped himself when he saw Duchene was being bought out.Sounds like an oiler or hurricane reclamation project already

Mack has come:
2nd
6th
2nd
3rd
N/A - didnt get hart votes despite 88 pts in 65 games
5th
In hart last 6 years
Matthews
N/A
N/A
10th
2nd
1st
16th
If Mack is getting 12.6M on 8 years and no one says that is a steal
Than matthews on 8 years at 12.6M is no steal either imo
Lol your talking out of your ass here. It's a very good deal.
We need to take emotions out of it, and none of what you posted actually matters in salary contract negotiations, it's arbitrary based on your feelings.
Unless he's 925k on a 1yr deal, big no thanks. Why not just bring back Simmonds? He's younger, has slightly more offensive/hockey ability, and is still a feared fighter. At least we know 100% Simmonds is a great team player, doesn't complain, and is hometown kid.Elliotte Friedman on the 32 thoughts podcast:
Broberg not being traded by EDM. Leafs/Oilers favourites for Connor Brown, Detroit no longer favourite for Debrincat, Nylander/Leafs not even close. Toronto very much in on Reaves if he gets to market. Nashville interested in C's.

Bear and Dermott didn't receive qualifying offers.
I believe Bear just had shoulder surgery from his injury at the World Championships. He's someone that I think the Leafs should keep a close eye on. He's pretty solid.
Dermott...that's a name I haven't heard in a while.Bear and Dermott didn't receive qualifying offers.

Man Dermott has really fallen if Vancouver is buying you out…Bear and Dermott didn't receive qualifying offers.
