That myth is what feeds the hate....it has a Neverending appetite to dismiss all that is good in Weber because big mouth got traded

The trade of Subban not only bleeds into conversations about Weber.

But pretty much every other move since is seen with an added touch of skepticism because of that trade.

It's become obvious

Don't know why people complain about this trade. Habs needed offence in the worst way and they got a rising star, and a French Canadian no less. I mean maybe people could question the move if Drouin was 28 years old, but he's only 28 at the end of his 6 year team-friendly contract with the team. The team needed more speed, more creativity, more PP presence and more youth. They checked all of the boxes with this trade.

"He's not a centre!!1!!1". Who the **** cares? Is Patrick Kane a centre? No, but he still controls the play completely from the wing. Drouin is the same type of player.

But I guess people will complain about anything.

So true....

When we talk about on ice product.....Subban made it better

We need a puck mover on the left side.....Subban was our puck mover

We lost in the first round to the Rangers......Subban would've propelled us to the second

Our core is in its late 20's......Subban would be made it younger

Weber went to children's hospital......Subban is raising 10m$, he's better

PP is having a hard time.....Subban would've made the PP better

We changed coaches.......Subban would still be here if it wasn't for Therrein

Nashville went to the finals.......it's all because of Subban and Weber is a loser now

I swear this place is a hen coop full of hens

Don't get me wrong, he's a good defensemen, but for the love of god can we please move on. This is as painful as dating a chick that keeps raving about her ex

Love this Drouin aquisition.....I hated that we had to give up on a promising D, but this move will pay dividends for the Canadiens right now.

How ironic.

The irony of irony......and let's not kid ourselves, he's got a big mouth, so big that Nashville put the gag order on it during the playoffs.

Do you really think the Habs could of gotten a #1C for Sergachev alone?

I'll assume not...so this lazy narrative that everyone keeps repeating about "using our best prospect to fill a position we didn't need" is just that.

Lazy

Lazy is pretending like this is some new need that just arosen in the past season.
Since he took over as GM there has been discussions about our top center position.
So ya, lazy you say..

Lazy

Speaking about lazy you should take a look at your own reasoning.

Let me give you an example outside of hockey. Your wife comes up to you and says you guys should buy a house. Your reply is we don't have the down payment right now. So instead of figuring out how to get that down payment she replies okay then let's buy a SUV. Does that make any sense to you?

If Sergachev wouldn't get you a #1 center then how about adding to it. Is that beyond the scope of your comprehension? And no one is arguing for an elite, established #1 center. After all Drouin has proven next to nothing in the NHL and is definitely not an established, top-end NHL winger.

The adage of the old Canadiens teams, that won multiple cups, was strength down the middle. Pittsburgh, Chicago, LA in recent years have proven that adage to be true.

Point to me a team that has won the cup without a #1 or #2 center.

Ya, so, totally no hate there.

Let me guess, you're one of those who thinks Nashville lost because PK had some listerine bottles..:biglaugh:

No....Nashville lost because they were shutout the last 2 games of the most important games of their lives.....when push came to shove, they choked :biglaugh:

People complain about this trade because we swapped Drouin for Radulov, two guys that produced about the same last year, and in the process it costs us our best prospect.
Now, maybe Drouin becomes an elite winger, putting up around ppg ratio. If that's the case, then this trade will be praised whenever it happens. But if you don't believe Drouin will become a top end guy and will just be similar to what he did last season, well then there's not much to praise as it's a lateral step, and a costly one as we paid Sergachev for it.

But that wasn't the intention, was it? The intention was to add Drouin to a team with Radulov. Unfortunately Radulov decided to chase a higher income. That doesn't make this trade any worse. Imagine it wasn't made, where the heck would the team be? They'd have to give Sergachev for a lesser player because the ED is over and teams would know of the Habs desperation.

Nashville didn't lose because of some Listerine bottles but management did tell PK to stop talking to the press and kept him away from reporters for the rest of the playoffs.

Then add a Drouin to Toronto or Ottawa scenario and this board melts down. It's typical HF behaviour....after 10yrs of being here, I'm starting to get it lol

Ya that's why. I'm sure having superstar Fischer as a their #1 center due to injury had nothing to do with it. What happened is ''they choked''! :biglaugh:
Anything to hate on Subban's team.

Balanced out with TRUE #1 SUPERSTAR defenseman LETANG out.......but please, keep trying :biglaugh:

I'll add Bonino out with an injury too, as a matter of fact, he was so good, that Nashville signed him this off season .....I can keep going you know

Even with Radulov off the team our wingers are immensely superior to our centers when it comes to the top two lines:

Galchenyuk, Gallagher, Patches, Lehkonen,

Compared to Danault, Pleks.

The need was at center not on the wings.

P.S. I don't buy the narrative that Sergachev couldn't get you someone like Reinhart.

I don't think the trade in and of itself is bad. But going into next season, we didn't really improve.

I believe we slightly improved, but without a top 2 C, we'll suffer the same fate as last year. Bergevin needs to aquire something or it'll be a fail for me this offseason.

Euh...ya....Crosby...Malkin...Kessel...you totally can keep digging down your grave if you want.

I love how Letang is a ''true #1 superstar'' (whatever that means...) but PK is ''a good dman''. :biglaugh:

At least don't pretend to be rational and lecture others about their irrational hate. Own up to yours.

So the Drouin trade was just MB spinning his wheels?

The argument presented by some is that Sergachev wasn't enough to get a #1 center. Well, now that we don't have him I guess it'll be easier to get that center.:sarcasm:

Johansen, Neal, Subban, Forsberg, Eckholm, Josi, Ellis.......ya......Nashville was hurting for talent

Wonder where GMs would rank Letang vs Subban........hmmmmmm

Lol.....whatcha wanted me to say.....Subban is a super duper good defenseman

Subban finished with 1 more goal than Weber in last years playoffs......lol

Anyways.....this is the wrong thread to talk about this, so this will be my last post on this matter :)

Is there not an oh so small chance that the team MB was/is working on a trade with does not need D?

Delayed sign and trade for Chucky, I mean is it not a possibility? Maybe a young, buy-low top 6 C?

For all we know he's convinced that Jerabek or Alzner will log 1st pairing minutes all year, and that the young D's in the system -without Sergachev- will do just fine in the near future. I wonder how delusional MB really is.
