Lol of course I'm happy getting Drouin for a prospect that I felt had suspect IQ covering the cycle in his own end.

I just think it's incredibly ignorant that the GM hands long term contracts like candy to players before it's prudent to do so but in the situation where it was, he failed.

I'm a Mooseheads fan. I watched Drouin excel for three playoffs. But that being said there's no way of knowing how he handles being the hopes of the most ridiculous portion of this fan base. If he falters completely, that contract will suck any value out of the deal.

For his defensive quirks we have Julien who's very good at systemic defensive first hockey and I'm pretty sure Drouin will be held accountable and will improve in that aspect. No way a player of that talent, that dosen't need to cheat to produce (I bet that was his biggest flaw in Tampa), with that speed, can't be good all around with a bit of practice. To be a good 200ft player you need 2 things, speed and stamina, and Drouin has speed (as for stamina I think he suffered of a bit of exhaustion last season when he had a slump but the NHL have a long season and he needs to improve on that).

If you don't see the risk with "francophone hero Drouin" and the immense pressure, and being signed to a long term deal before you know how he handles it. That's fine.

There are no sure things in sport...you assume risk with every transaction.
I see a risk and id be cautious since we were just burned last year on a lesser player.

can't stay frozen in fear because of past situations

Well I read somewhere that there was an expansion draft? I haven't seen out protected list yet, maybe you have?

I do however, agree with you, our GM has invested quite a lot in salary, term & draft picks for Shaw, a 3rd line player.

I don't dislike Shaw but I obviously do feel we over paid to get him. And I would obviously be wary of protecting him especially so if more moves are made. BTW, I'm certain our GM will protect him given his belief in this 3rd liner.

Just common sense! People undervalue Shaw if they think he can go unprotected. Not only would he get picked up, I'm 100% positive, they'd turn around and trade him. I'm sure Boston or Toronto would love to pick him up....

What about not protecting Shaw??

I understand that he is a tad overpaid and that we paid two high draft pick for him, but he is still a player and a competitor. He is part of the solution, not the problem.

Back on Drouin.

How can't we rejoice having such a talent on our team??

For people not liking this deal makes no sense to me. Still can't believe we got Drouin!

Good trade but Jonathon is not a "superstar", "PPG winger" , "elite game breaker" ect...

Foward drafted top 5 usually dont take time to develop and reach their offense peak at 22-23 years old .Drouin is a 60-65 points PP specialist.

Drouin has got 25 points? more than Pac67 did at game 165

...ya never know..Drouin on his childhood dream team , who knows how he plays..

My point is I want to wait and see what happens in the next couple of months before I decide how I feel aboutthis trade.

Although I think McGuire is a tool and was misinforming people yesterday (with his asinine : five year difference between Segachev and Drouin), he did make a good point. Drouin is a nice piece but he is not the key.

I don't think Bergevin is done.

Why do you need time to decide how you feel about this particular trade?

Trade is solid IMO, even if Sergachev becomes a stud this trade would still be solid.

In the best case, Drouin becomes the next Claude Giroux. Both players have similar progression.

So for me, Habs just added the best Quebecers available for the next decenny .
In the worst case, Habs gets a 50-55 wingers for the next decade and this is better than get 3-4 years of similar production MattDuchene and we would not have to give up a zillions prospects and picks like people get rid of in their often silly proposals.

That said, we also understand that the deal give us one less player protected for Vegas, Charles Hudon most likely but not sure a sure thing.

Maybe he's not stupid and it's not a mistake? But hey, I guess maybe those who think that are stupid too??

Personally feel losing 4M RW Shaw has much less impact than potentially losing a 6-7M RW Radulov due to cap issues.

Whoop-dee-doo. The best players make the all-star game, not necessarily the fastest. Bet guys like Helm or Hagelin would have posted better times if they were all-stars. But I never called him slow. We're comparing him to Byron, who is noticeably faster in a straight line and up closer to Hagelin's territory.

Well Mcdavid is considered one of if not the fastest player in the league and drouin is right there with him. Is Byron faster than McD? I'm not so sure.

Because I could care less if MB traded for Crosby and we end up being non-contenders.

The point is not in making a good trade here and there. It's in creating a team that can compete for the Cup. Right now, without Radulov, or 2 top 6 centers, with Captain Patio Ready still on the team and no LHD on the first pairing, we can't compete for squat.

That's why I want to wait. I want to see how this nice piece, Drouin, falls into place.

Leaf fan, but coming in more as a Mooseheads fan respectfully chiming in. Congrats guys! I love Drouin. He has some maturing to do, and some attitude issues (had some while in Halifax too) but you can't deny that you got an elite young talent. He plays a similar game to Mitch Marner and has INCREDIBLE vision and skill. He will be your franchise forward (player goes to Price) and I can't wait to see him develop with your team and grow. I have no worries about him facing the media.

It sucks that you guys lost Sergachev, who I believe is one of the best young D in the game and was extremely jealous you drafted him last year. But you have to give to get. It was a fair trade. Drouin will bring you guys out of your seats in much of the same way Mitch does for us. He's not the best at the defensive game (yet). I believe he's got a great coach to guide him. He has some toughness to him also, he just doesn't show it because he rarely gets hit. While in Halifax he was better and more dynamic than MacKinnon on most nights (I'd still take MacKinnon over him though). Enjoy him guys! Next Season can't come soon enough! Cheers!

I would point out that he has gotten hit a lot in Tampa. Has had some issues with keeping his head up at the blueline. Gets right back up though.

I agree with you, mostly.......(I don't over or under value him, a 3rd liner).....I was thinking that if there is a trade before the ED, Shaw could/would/should be the one exposed but THAT it would take a lot of balls given the price MB paid.

So the trade broke yesterday while I was out drinking with some friends. My buddy works for the team and he had sent me a text a while before it broke but I totally missed it and didn't check my phone until after.

I think this is a good trade. Team is desperate for offensive talent and this was very badly needed. The contract is a bit risky but it could potentially pay off bigtime if Drouin can become a consistent 60-70 point player.

I just wonder where he will play now. On LW he will play behind Pacioretty. They really need a center now, even more than before.

Agree with your points and I hope his head is in a good place. He does play similar as Marner, who is an incredible player (and center which is a problem we haven't addressed). Drouin is a step in the right direction but we still have many holes to fix. Won't lie, I didn't have much hope heading into the summer but credit to Bergevin for pulling this one off.

He's not a center though. It makes no sense. It's like when the Habs were so desperate they played Kovalev at C for a little bit.

He played C in junior for a year iirc. It's not ideal, but I have no doubt they're going to try him there and see how he does.

I think he's going to be played at center.

He's going to get a fair shot at center, I believe. Drouin said he played center in midget and junior and some games at the NHL level. He says he's open to playing the position although, what else is he going to say -- he's on a honeymoon period, he's not going to do anything to rock the boat.
