If you are going to argue something atleast make a little research. It wasn't a video, it was a picture and you couldn't see the face of the girl in the picture. Anyway, go argue with the Swedish judge not me...

You're moving the goal posts, it wasn't Heatley's plan to kill his teamate just like it wasn't Mailloux's plan to harm the girl.
I’m going to ask again, what do you think he thought would happen with the girl? A high five?

Do you know any 18 year old o girls who would be pumped to have a picture of them sucking someone off being spread around?

That's probably not true. I would highly doubt he expected her to find out and, if she didn't find out, there would be no harm caused.

Bad word choice.
Do you know a single girl who would be pumped to have her picture going around doing that? Whether she knew about it or not?

It's been 5 months since Hughes said they had no intention of negotiating a contract until they have evaluated him as a person.

That was quite the nice fluff piece the Athletic released back in March.

He spent part of the summer in Montreal being evaluated by both the players and front office.

Doesn't change the fact that the harm came from finding out but go ahead and move the goalposts.
The harm came from him showing the picture 😂

I’m sure it’s completely harmless as long as you’re laughing at the girl behind her back, then it’s completely fine.

As someone with a daughter, Do I ever hope some of you NEVER have sons.

“It’s harmless to show disgusting pictures that the girl would hate to see public as long as she never finds out, son”

Why are you asking me the question?

I'm not aware of all the elements presented in this case. What I do know is the judge ruled it a defamation not aggravated defamation. The intent/plan and scope of the defamation is the difference between the 2.

Obviously she wasn't happy, but that doesn't mean it was planed... in fact it was ruled out it wasn't by professionals with all the available information.

Keep on hating I guess

What is exactly your point here? That what he did was disgusting? No one is going to argue with you about that.

What did he do again? So many NHL culture problems going on or happened that it's all a blue . Honest question though, because I can't remember. Was this the racist bully?
I think he took a video of his gf or some girl and posted it online or showed people around his school
the racist bully was Mitchell Miller who never showed remorse until it effected him. basically damage control

I dont think what Mailloux did was good but it wasnt so bad that his career and life should come to an end.
Miler on the other hand is a different story

You can't see her face at all on the picture. I'm not saying it was right, but there are worse crimes out there and it truly isn't outrage material

I kind of understand that it's "get the best player available on all times". But players like Virtanen or Mailloux are not the type that actually elevate your teams chances, so why do these people sign these players? I kind of understand Oilers signing Kane, he is actually a good player, so the fact that he is a dumbass gets overpowered by his on-ice contributions. But who the f*** signs actually bad players who are shit humans off the ice? i dont get it.

With all the stuff that has gone through in the past couple years with s.a. and hockey, do you really think no player in *your* favorite team has done something similar or worse?

You'd have to have your head in the sand to think there aren't a couple uncharged, or not yet charged, sex offenders on every pro hockey team.

Ah whataboutisms, noice.

If u want to assume there's 60+ or so other sex offenders in the league just to make you feel better about habs signing a sex offender, you do that. Habs is still the only team that has publically done so.

The fact that you think that every single team in the league has at least a couple is wild, especially since multiple teams chose not to draft him because of this. I chose to believe that most teams wont draft, sign, hire and defend sex offenders though.

Who was it intended to harm? Wasn't that the claim, he intended to harm? Is it like when your ears ring and someone says SOMEONE IS TALKING ABOUT YOU? He showed the pictures and she felt pain?

The idiocy came from him showing the picture, she was harmed when she found out he did the idiotic thing.

He's a prospect. He has a good chance at being a good caliber player. I would think the Bergevin/Timmins thought they were getting a steal, otherwise they would've passed. Hockey wise, Mailloux is a very diserable player.

Virtanen drama happened after being drafter. I assume the Oilers did their due diligence in his case and Kane's. Both are innocent man, but there is rarely smoke without atleast a little bit fire.

Im not a lawyer, but if i ever become one my go-to thing will be "hes a prospect"

Not a sex offender
This is something that people need to remember, he was not guilty. Sadly he was already convicted by social media dumbasses.

Still can't believe Bergevin took the PR shitstorm to get this guy onboard lol

So you think that the 2003 and 2018 Team Canada incidents were isolated, and that type of thing is not common in hockey culture. Certainly not with the players of *your* favourite team.

You know, its great to be an activist like you are, making a difference by writing words on a message board telling us your feelings, but if you really, really felt that strongly about it you'd boycott the sport because this type of stuff happens , or has happened all the time in hockey. If the past couple years hasn't shown you that I don't know what to say.

As long as you don't know about it, its all good right? Head in the sand, noice.

Or...

Five Habs fans posting here: He paid his $2000 fine and did some community service. He paid his debt and he deserves to get a $2.775M contract a year after being rightfully drafted.

Everyone else: Habs shouldn't have drafted him in the first place and now giving him all that money a year later just makes it worse. It seems like if you can play good hockey all transgressions against women are forgiven because boys will be boys after all.
This all case is a storm in a water glass.
He has gotten a punishment, taken it and we move on.
They shouldn't have drafted him in the 1st round, but it's okay to draft him if they feel he has the potential.

You also need to understand the pull that a NHL player has, It's way less here in Finland, and i partied with a NHL player this summer, the amount of girls that throw themselves to these guys, and the ones that dm them on social media is something you probably dont even understand, ofc most of them are not out there "for blood", but there is people who try to get fame either by getting with them, or making stories about them. The shit you read in tabloids isn't always true, can't believe i have to say this.

I don't know how you can definitively say Mailloux is not the type of player that can elevate a team. He's a big, young defenseman who can take years to reach his potential. Virtanen however, is a good example, we know what he is at this point.

Lots of second round picks or later have gone on to be impact defensemen or even Norris winners. Lots of sure fire top 15 first rounders have gone on to bust. Its way too early to say what kind of player Mailloux is going to be.

He is big, young, and a dumbass. Virtanen is big, slow, and a dumbass.

Edit: There is 100% better options if you are trying to hit the jackpot outside of the draft in college teams or in europe than these 2.

Right. You didn't have to say this. But sometimes with the attention comes entitlement and disgusting behavior.

How oddly appropriate that his ELC is announced on Yom Kippur. (The Day of Atonement, for those of y'all who aren't familiar with Jewish holidays).

He has fallen exceptionally low. Let him strive to do better. I'm hoping he's able. We'll see.

It’s not hard, just don’t do what he did. And what do you mean by “we’ll see”? What do you expect him to do? What he did isn’t even a crime in most countries, not that it’s acceptable behaviour.

I'm not sure what you mean, might be the language barrier. What i'm trying to say is even though the NHL status gets you above most men, they dont act stupid here in Finland. Also if we talk about junior players, here in Finland the junior stars are not the ones that get the girls, because they don't even see the girls. The junior stars are out there always running or practicing and stuff, the girls dont even know they exist. It's only after they get their first contract the puck bunnies come around.

In Finland the boys who play hockey or any other sport on high level are not sexual offenders or rapists, because they are not treated like some out of this world superstars, they are treated as normal people. But yeah that's just my non-educated guess.
