Among his peers, among people that know him, yes, he would still be considered a piece of shit. There’s a difference between being a piece of shit and being an evil monster.
Some of his peers did the same kind of stuff. Some did worse.

came here for the sanctimonious posts. Not disappointed. Kid made a shitty and misogynistic mistake. Forgiveness is subjective. Would be interesting to see which team and which players and the owners of those teams y’all cheer for. Let’s review their past

Dany Heatley didn't get half the bad hate Mailloux is getting after killing his teamate driving under the influence at high speed in his Ferrari... Multiple players with domestic violence cases too. I don't get it...

Killing or physically harming someone isn't worst then showing a picture of a girl suckin your dick to your buddies? I mean, news flash, everyone does it (sexual activities).
I know it's a dick(no pun intended) move and he should get something for it, but to ban him from hockey or send him to prison... really that's where we are at... Some people have double standard it's so ironic.

This comes off to me as a person that made a huge mistake and has realized it. Only time will tell if that’s is the case of course. I’m pretty sure that Montreal as a team has many qualified people that have monitored his situation. Being able to rehabilitate people when they have wronged or been wronged is something that should always be in society.

Heatley got a TON of shit for what he did. Obviously what he did was a terrible thing, but it wasn’t something he planned or meant to do.

This idiot did fully plan to show people what he did and meant to cause harm. There’s the big difference.

He has done everything that the courts and the organisation has asked of him. The fines, the suspension, the therapy, the counselling with a number of doctors and advisors watching his every step, his every move. Now what? Continue to punish him?

Bolded : that's not what the Swedish court of law ruled. If he planned it to cause harm it would've been aggravated defamation ...

You're in the awkward position of claiming a teenager who showed his buddies pictures of his sexual conquest is more morally responsible than an adult man who literally killed somebody while drinking and driving.

It's actually not that hard of a position to argue. Look up what Heatley was charged with (2nd Degree Vehicular Manslaughter/ Homicide) and what the 2nd degree part of it means

What exactly do you expect to happen when showing a video of said girl sucking your dick? A high five from her?

Lookup what second degree vehicular homicide means.

Do you think Heatley planned on crashing the car and killing someone?

Did Mailloux plan on showing people the video?

I hated the pick (wanted Raty) but this is the right move. He's been hanging around the team all camp.

I trust that management has done their due diligence with him and he's ready to move forward with his career.
If the girl’s identity got out I wonder if she’s ready to move on with her life without complications. No one should give a shit about the entitled (and now wealthy) athlete in this situation.

This thread is going to off rails. I believe in giving 2nd chances for this type of offense. He paid for actions and hopefully learns from his mistake

Not exactly. A lot of Habs, including myself, were not happy with the pick and go look back at the threads at the time showing that dissatisfaction.

That being said I believe in second chance and rehabilitation. If he has followed everything as far as taking course on the subject and understands what he did was wrong and why then I believe he should get a second chance. This is sadly something that happens, especially with youngsters, these days, likely hundreds of times a day around the world but you don't hear about it as they are not in the spotlight like a hockey player.

Social justice can be powerful but we cannot let ourselves become a world without rehabilitation and second chances, especially when it is something like this when far greater crimes are committed all the time.
In principle I agree with this. In practice, I am concerned that the way things are developing, he may not end up in an ideal situation to better himself and make restitution.

If you are going to argue something atleast make a little research. It wasn't a video, it was a picture and you couldn't see the face of the girl in the picture. Anyway, go argue with the Swedish judge not me...

You're moving the goal posts, it wasn't Heatley's plan to kill his teamate just like it wasn't Mailloux's plan to harm the girl.

Heatley was under the legal driving limit.. and also Snyders family (you know, the one who's kid died) supported Heatley. Has the family or the woman come out and supported this clown? If not, not the same. I know things like this are hard to understand but...

I'd say more but I'll get a warning from the mods while we continue to read laughable opinions from incels
Perhaps you should be a little more like the Snyder family....
WTF incels have to do with Mailloux signing a NHL entry level contract?

He was under the legal driving limit, however he was driving way past the speed limit. That's why he was accused. You don't get accused if you have an accident causing death and you've done nothing wrong.

Saying Mailloux deserved jail time and defending Heatley in the same sentence is ironic haha

Sex offender? Grow up.

About time. Geat move by the Habs. Can't wait to see him in our line up.

He's a convicted sex offender - there's that and nothing you can say about it.
But if your team wants to employ sex offenders, good for the Habs I guess

Having a sex offender on your team must be great for the moral.
Habs and Hockey Canada has some work to do
With all the stuff that has gone through in the past couple years with s.a. and hockey, do you really think no player in *your* favorite team has done something similar or worse?

You'd have to have your head in the sand to think there aren't a couple uncharged, or not yet charged, sex offenders on every pro hockey team.

Except he's not.

That's probably not true. I would highly doubt he expected her to find out and, if she didn't find out, there would be no harm caused.

Bad word choice.
It isn't true according to the Swedish ruling.... so it's probably not true. But you know this guy probably knows better...
