What has he done since then to deserve an ELC? Even if he MTL wants to give him a contract so they don't lose him, how has he earned anything beyond minimum for what he's done since he's been drafted? I think this is more of an indictment on MTL as an organization as well.He faced the consequences in Sweden. He was suspended by the OHL. He was not allowed to participate in last year's training camp...what other consequences would you bring down on this person (a minor at the time) to punish him further??? Put it in the context of others playing in the NHL who did worse and got nothing!
So, he could have received a summary conviction - which is $5000 or six months maximum. Not so different from what he received in Sweden.Just for clarification purposes.

What in the god damn world is this? Millions of kids are doing this every day? Are you insane?I don't think what he did warrants all this hate. It was a kid being a kid, teach him the lesson then forgive him
Forgiveness is a forbidden concept on the internet. It's not like he committed an act of violence or theft.
Why should he have his life ruined for something millions of kids do every day?
What hasn't he done since to deserve? What has he done since then to deserve an ELC? You think millions of kids arent exchanging sexual pictures to eachother and their friends every day? I got news for you lol. Is it the norm? Probably not, but millions is a small number compared to the amount of kids with phones on the internet. What in the god damn world is this? Millions of kids are doing this every day? Are you insane?
Good publicity if they can turn it into a redemption story.I don't understand why a storied and respected organization like Montreal did this. They don't need him and the bad publicity that comes with him. They should have traded his rights. I'm sure there's at least one team in the league that would have jumped at the chance to sign him.
Adults do this stuff as well, not just kids. A girl at a company I used to work at sent nudes to a guy(also in the company) she liked and he went around showing it to everyone. Both ended up fired over it.You think millions of kids arent exchanging sexual pictures to eachother and their friends every day? I got news for you lol. Is it the norm? That it wasn't a Canadian court doesn't make it any less legitimate. He was put on a registry. There are all manner of things that are punished differently, from one country to the next. Sweden deemed it suitable. You can let your angst skew it however you want.

or an indictable offence and liable to imprisonment for a term of not more than five years. The $2000 wrist slap was a joke. So, he could have received a summary conviction - which is $5000 or six months maximum. Not so different from what he received in Sweden.

Getting jail time for that would be a freakin joke too are you kidding me!?!! No way he was going to jail in Canada either.or an indictable offence and liable to imprisonment for a term of not more than five years. The $2000 wrist slap was a joke.

Excuse my irrational anger as a father of two girls who would want more than just volunteering in order to earn a near full value ELC.Dudn some States/countries the girl could have been charged for Statutory Rape.
He has attended counseling, been doing volunteer work, and has been speaking to other young men about how what he did was wrong and why consent is important.
They need to keep some contract spots open for whoever was involved in 2018.Wow figured they would trade him to the Oilers, would fit in great with that group!
I hate the Habs. He was a minor. The Habs shouldn't have drafted him. The kid does deserve a second chance.this thread in a nutshell....
Non Habs fans: Burn him at the stake

Sexual pictures they themselves took and were a part of? Nah, calling BS that it's happening frequently. I am not even a decade removed from high school, this was absolutely not common place when I was in high school and kids are getting more and more sensitive to this type of stuff, not the opposite. You think millions of kids arent exchanging sexual pictures to eachother and their friends every day? I got news for you lol. Is it the norm? Probably not, but millions is a small number compared to the amount of kids with phones on the internet.
I'm betting I'm a lot closer to high school age than most people on this site and unless Whitby, Ontario - arguably the hockey douche capital of Canada - was a safe haven from this kind of behaviour I do not think it's nearly as rampant as its being made out to be.Very sadly they are, when I was in high-school locker rooms and Uni this S*** was rampant.

Ah so you're conflating what he did with just sexting in general which casts an incredibly wide net. Teens sexting =/= teens sharing nudes without consent. For sexting:
"Estimates by researchers start at a low of 20 percent of teens and reach higher than 60 percent in some studies"
The only difference here is he "shared the picture with friends without her consent". Going to go ahead and assume a huge chunk of the sexters have done the same. Big woop.
Realistically, the fanbase as a whole, both nhl and Habs won't care. You can dress it up and justify the signing all you want. The bottom line is its a bad look for the Montreal organization and they don't need it. And I'm sure every parent of every young girl that's been wronged in the same type of situation would agree.
