Someone's gotta explain to me why the Mets have been insistent on carrying 8 pitchers and thus carrying a short bench when they have an off day every Monday this month. Now Rosario's' gonna be forced to play left to finish the game because they only have 3 healthy outfielders.

The Mets have zero healthy outfielders on the 40 man roster that aren’t on the team. There is no one to call up

I'd like to believe they can DFA Brooks Pounders to clear room for Rajai Davis. They're going to need to DFA some of the pitchers anyway if they'd like to add someone like him as well as a 3rd catcher for September.

Alonso didn't need the help of the ball. He'd be near this without a juiced ball. His home runs are missiles, not wall scrapers.

The middle of this Mets lineup long term is worth building around. Alonso is a huge reason why.

With the way the ball is flying out of yards, Alonso will have a chance to beat the Mets home run record before he's 30

no reason to believe with this starting staff 1-5 and this lineup-when healthy- and thats the key to this teams fortunes, that this team cannot make the post season.

the coaching decisions are crazy and the BP is sketchy but i remain hopeful.

lets see how they do against real teams now

buckle up

Where is Gary Cohen, vacation?

Yeah and Howie’s daughter got married so he was off too. I was surprised the bosses didn’t tell Gary he couldn’t have the same week but it’s possible he had a personal commitment as well. After 30 years both guys are probably gonna get whatever they want. I wouldn’t expect Gary Apple to fill in for Cohen ever again. They’ll likely move Howie over or give Gelbs a shot at it next year. Either Joe Beningo or Evan Roberts said Apple had been begging the execs for years now to give him a chance at PBP but it sure didn’t work out too well

I think Wayne Randazzo did some spring games this year, but with Howie Rose gone too, they kept him on the radio. Apple could stay far away from the booth.

I believe it was 3 years ago Ron Darling did the PBP and sounded just like Apple did, but at least he had insight on the game. There were too many plays this past week that Apple made them feel like something was going to happen and then it was a routine play.

Next time, just get the kidcaster to come back and do the full game. Significantly better.

So here we sit with the Mets 64-60...2 games out of a WC after this 24-10 run since the all-star break.

They are 5-4 since the schedule turned nasty beginning with the Nats series last week. Mets did pretty much what they needed to do as we head into this big 9 game homestand vs Indians,Braves and Cubs. Would love for Mets to go 6-3 or better but not going to get greedy here as I wouldn't be pissed if we went 5-4 vs three tough ass teams.

I recall before Nats series my thinking that it would take 85-86 wins to get one of the two WC spots. I'm now rethinking my position on that and tweaking that 85-86 number to more like 87-88 which means if Mets want a WC spot, they are going to have to go in neighborhood of 23-15...24-14 in remaining 38 games.

It's doable but it's going to take some great pitching along the way and some of our walking wounded to come back(McNeil, Nimmo and maybe even Lowrie?). It sure helps we have most of these remaining 38 games at home where we've been really good and so it's still very possible Mets can pull this off.

Hey bottom line is we have important August and September baseball to look forward too and that was nothing but a pipe dream only 3-4 weeks ago. So no matter what happens, I'm happy for that.

Yeah right...f*** that shit if you believe that crap that just came out of my mouth....lol

l want playoffs...Period....:naughty:

Indians series will dictate this homestand. The last two games of the series are against their #5 and a rookie who has pitched well so far (Beat up on KC and Texas, Yankees hit him better, but we don't have that kind of offense). First one is vs Bieber, but Matz at home is not a walk in the park. Hopefully he can take out whatever is likely eating at him for being pulled from his last start and take it out on the Indians. The other series vs Atlanta and the Cubs, I can see them at 3-3.

I hope they don't rush McNeil or Nimmo back just yet. I'd like to see McNeil next in the Cubs series and Nimmo on their next road trip. He's missed too much time to rush back and not get the ABs needed to be out there, especially while Lagares is actually hitting. As for Lowrie, make him an addition on 9/1. They don't need to rush him either. Just get him healthy and able to play down the stretch. Having a switch hitter to add to the bench will help late in games.
