I wanted to mention something similar when it comes to that first part. Hyman for example did a lot of work down low(which Mitch isn't good at doing) and then getting the puck to Marner so he can make plays because that's where his strength lies. Now they rely too much on Ritchie(well now it's Kerfoot which isn't ideal either as he isn't that strong along the wall). I'm not even defending his struggles because he pisses me off at times(and you can tell by my username that i'm a big fan) but it's too obvious that whom you play with matters big time(no matter what your skill level might be...Matthews would struggle without Willy).
Hyman got the puck to Marner? What game was that?

Hyman was pretty well a black hole once he touched the puck
You have to win puck battles to gain possession of the puck. Many times Hyman disrupted the opposition in the offensive zone enough that the puck would squirt lose to Marner or other leaf players. If you don't disrupt the opponent on the forecheck then the puck is easily moved the other way and the offensive zone time is dead.

Hyman doesn't have to be doing the fancy, mostly inefficient, spin o Rama plays Marner is doing to be an effective linemate for skilled guys. Hyma is doing his job when he is applying pressure and causing turnovers that end up on the leafs sticks in the offensive zone. He is one of the best in the entire NHL at doing it....hence why Oilers pulled out all stops to get him so he could be the linemate of the best player in the NHL.

That was certainly true his first few seasons here. I was a huge hater of having him playing up in the line up. However he did improve and by the time he left he was pretty good.

Marner started 17/18 season with 14 points in 29 games. 2 goals in his first 33 games :help:. Then he finished the season as one of the top 5 players in the league with a 33 goal pace over the final 49 games. Not even debatable that second half Mitch was a monster.

Criticize away because he deserves it, but this is a reminder that you will most likely look foolish if you write him off entirely. We can't afford this to last 33 games but he's better all around today so should break out of it soon. There will eventually be a period of time where the GDT is constant Marner praise.

One theory is the bulking. He did a bulk in 2017 summer and was slower relative to his normal pace for 1/3 of the season. After getting bullied by Weber and Chiarot I imagine he did another bulk in summer.

You can go back to your regular program of sinister theories now. Sorry to disturb.

I stand by what I said. Marner rarely received a pass from Hyman.

Matty changed that game on his own .. he decided to get vocal in room and then got physically engaged in leading team on ice .. lots of times in hockey I got wild and crazy and you miss more than you strike .. but it is da effort that matters .. guys see it and it changes emotional state of game .. hard to understand unless you played pro hockey .. it is not about stat pack .. stat pack does not win games .. players win games .. and when Matty decided to lead da team followed him
most leaf fans dont seem to want to hear this, but this is why i think at the end of the day- it might be tavares thats your biggest problem.

Great goal, Goal of this NHL season sofar.
He needs to build on that and stay in front of the net. Both of his goals is around the crease, that’s what he needs to go and be to be most effective.

When someone posted Rielly will sign....a 8 year deal is announced a few hours later.

Someone says Marner breakout incoming....Marner has 3 points a few hours later.

People need to keep making positive predictions. They're coming true.
