I love how we blame individual players.

Last year it was Frederik Andersen despite him carrying the team for several regular seasons and it turned out he was playing with a groin injury for some parts of last season and this season before he had to give up and rest.

This season they threw a 3-1 series lead because of Marner? Cmon leaf fans..
So you were happy to see Freddy outgoalied in the playoffs? Or are you just happy with regular season numbers?
Marner was attrocious unless you think no player should ever be criticized?

Yesterday I was all in favour of trading Marner but after thinking about it I’ve come to my senses. Marner was FINE in both Boston series. He put up 9 pts in 7 games in the first Boston series. In the 2nd Boston series Cassidy broke up the perfection line to get him away from 91 & 16

The problem is Keefe doesn’t know how to coach. He kept running the same lines out over and over again even though they weren’t working. He did nothing to try to get them away from the matchups. He’s a horrible junior caliber coach and needs to be fired

For teams with liquidity it is actually a bonus, no doubt.

As a Sens fan who always has to over-analyze the signing bonuses, I notice the 7.25 million up front and think that might be tough to do for some teams.
Yeah thats true, looks like Ottawa has like no signing bonuses.

what's all this twitter talk about him being a primadonna? a big part of my support for mitch (which is waning regardless of character), is that he appears to be a decent guy who tries hard. i've since had my opinion on matthews' character or the lack thereof, but we reserve judgement as fans and hope for the best. i'd hate for mitch to actually be a jerk deep down. i am having a hard time believeing that tbh.

Hyperbole

Well I'm speaking specifically of the forward group.

If you have a 20 year old playing D in the playoffs, in my opinion you did something wrong or have significant injuries. It's why Dubas needed a healthy, strong D Man as the deadline in case you need to fill in for a Dermott of whomever.

I didn't want to see Sandin, he is a future player who may become a very good player, this is not the big stage he can succeed on at his age against a rival who traps in the playoffs. He needed to be an option further down.
Hutton is that D, no? He didn't leave for injuries, sounds like the leave was unpredictable

Just look at how he handled the contract and insulting the team through the media. He then had the audacity to make a I love Toronto video. There is also history of him and his dad not being great to deal with back in his minor days.

Just remember, Doug Gilmour was smaller than Mitch yet played the game like a warrior.
We can still win without him, the problem is the balance of the roster that refuses to finish checks, take a hit to chip the puck out of danger, continuously attempting to dangle through defenders instead of getting pucks deep and not driving the net to score the ugly goals.
It’s truly an embarrassing roster.

Contract situation, being petty over not getting ELC bonuses 3 years later with a different GM, calling up Dougie when he was demoted to the 4th line and saying theyre thinking about asking for a trade, not wanting to be moved off the half wall on the PP. This is just what has slowly been leaked, who knows what else there is.

So true. I forgot about the bonuses as well.

This guy is truly a disgrace. You gotta be like Gretzky to have an ego like this.

That was the straw that broke the camel’s back for me. Marner was one of my favourite players until the playoffs got going. It was then that I realized how much he shies away from contact (way more than Nylander). And then to hear how he refused to play a different position on the PP?! Just wow! Nothing but a spoiled rich kid! And there are other people responsible for letting him do that. Is it just on Keefe, or is it mainly on Dubas (I feel he is the one who let Marner decide).
As I have already mentioned, I’m hoping Dubas (and Shanahan and Keefe) are given their walking papers. The ONLY way I will continue to support this team (I know, I’m nobody and no one cares) if Dubas stays, is if Marner is traded, in a perfect world it would be for Seth Jones. We need to create enough cap room so that we’re not nickel and diming our depth support.
Getting Jones would hopefully take some of the burden off of Muzzin (he’s a warrior but I’m becoming concerned about his ability to stay healthy in the playoffs).

The supporting cast did all you can ask of them. The spring board to getting to the next round would have been Matthews and Marner playing out of their minds in Game 5 and getting out to a 2-0 lead in the first. It would have been over with a heavy diligent forechecking lock down game from that point. This is just textbook close out.
Yep. The top line just didn't get it done. End of story.

Pretty bitter about how bad Marner is, but we're more likely to lose Matthews for nothing at free agency so maybe we need to hang on to Marner.

If you think you're going to lose Matthews when his contract runs out that's all the more reason to not drag your feet on surrounding him with the right supporting cast, is it not?

There’s like maybe 2-3 players who shouldn’t be relentlessly booed next season as on and not one of their surnames start with an M.

Yes, let's boo our players out of town! That will for sure make other players want to come here.

You guys are too much and honestly don't deserve a good team.

Indeed. Rather than that, let’s watch our superstar pretenders produce below their abilities and standards for five straight post seasons, playing with questionable effort levels, and do everything not to offend them by voicing our displeasure, our opinion that what they’re providing is unacceptable.
