Marner finished 4th overall in points this season and Matthews lead the league in goals scored while finishing 7th in total points. Thats what 11 million dollar players are expected to do. I think people need to stop bringing up Point because quite frankly, because its difficult to compare not only wingers to centres, but players in no income tax states like Point . After taxes Point and Marner make essentially the same amount. Point is a better overall player but Marner does have nearly 50 more points in only 4 more games in their careers and Marner put up 19 more points in 1 less game than Point this year. And its not as if Point is playing with scrubs either.
This fanbase should be long past the point of giving a crap about any regular season accolades.

Give me a team like the Islanders any day of the week where there's no individual awards and their top scorer doesn't even crack 70 points.

Perhaps you should act more on the first bolded as IMO you have become the thread's poster boy for your second bolded.
Its like he believes its the fans fault mitch's performance is so shit. Lol leafs fans are the reason why mlse can provide so many luxuries to its players. Its high time we expected more and wanted more than the bs we receive.

This is a great thread to bookmark. Just hope the great posters crapping over Marner have the decency of keeping his name out of their mouths when the cheering begins again next year.
The token post of eating crow yet again just arent going to work. This thread has become hijacked with non hockey related vitriol and should be shut down now.

I will be more then happy to come back in here and eat crow if Marner somehow miraculously starts ripping it in the playoffs.

But let's be honest my friend. The chances of that 1 day happening are about as close to slim to none as you can get.

So like a snowball's chance in hell? Gotta agree. Look, at the end of the day, we're Leafs fans. I'd love for Marner to someday grow up and admit that he has alot of improving to do. But, his attitude in the past few weeks has only shown an arrogance borne out of an entitled upbringing from Papa Paul. Doesn't look good for anyone eating crow on this one.

That 70 point player today had 85 points in his rookie season but his team didn't make the playoffs. Shows you how much statistics play a role in team success. Only thing high point totals guarantee are excessively high contract expectations.

Not for nothing but I thought the vacation photo with Marner, Bogosian, and Holl was an Instagram story and that’s why it’s not up or whatever anymore. Those disappear after 24 hours. Maybe I’m wrong, I didn’t go to Mitchs page when I saw the screen cap posted.

The positive I get from that photo is that Bogo has the chance of re-signing with the Leafs if he's still hanging out with Marner and Holl.

So Simmons weighs in.

Yes, we know Marner got overpaid and has not delivered when it counts but purely in fairness when comparing these deals it should be noted that:

a) Point's was a bridge deal and bridges are typically for a lesser AAV than long-term deals, often greatly so. And,
b) There is no income tax in Florida, which happens to be the biggest selling point (no pun intended) to players outside of proximity to live gator tours.

If it was me, I'd send him to Calgary for Matthew Tkachuk.

In Marners 94 point season Andrew Berkshire (2019) indicated he uses scoring chance generating plays as the statistic to judge a players offensive value to their team...in this category this was the rankings 1)McDavid 2)Crosby 3)Matthews 12T) Tavares 12T)Aho 22) Nylander 26) Marner

Not big in the stat stuff so I rely on people who apparently are... thought this stat was interesting.

Why does this upset you so much?

Imagine being this upset that someone has a life outside of their profession.

Do you understand you can live a life without posting about it? It is possible.

I know it may difficult to understand, but trust me, the world got by without posting about daily life.

Friggin' kids.

There are a lot of people his age who don't post anything, or next to anything. You just don't know about them because they don't make their lives public :sarcasm:

Celebrities have to be attention seekers to get that Instagram and endorsement money. Doesn't happen a lot in hockey but it happens a lot in every other entertainment sphere.

There are no state taxes in Florid, but that doesn’t mean there are no taxes. Unless I’m mistaken, every NHL player pays federal tax, which is like 35% …. plus whatever the state tax is.

That’s not the 50% guys pay in Canada, but it sure isn’t “no taxes”.

On the Point contract, he pays 2.4 million in taxes. In Toronto, he’d pay 3.4.

Here’s the problem with acquiring m.ktachuk, he’s a ufa in 2 years. A stlouis native and the tkachuks being a close knit family, I wouldn’t be surprised if both ktachuks go home to stlouis come ufa.

I will take those two years and see what happens ... worst case he walks and you have the cap space .
