Watching these series’ and how hard these guys are competing while remembering Mitch Marner’s “forecheck” fly-bys.... so infuriating.

He’s a special player when he’s on but complete trash when he’s not. Not sure how I’m going to feel seeing him back next year.

So Simmons weighs in.

Yes, we know Marner got overpaid and has not delivered when it counts but purely in fairness when comparing these deals it should be noted that:

a) Point's was a bridge deal and bridges are typically for a lesser AAV than long-term deals, often greatly so. And,
b) There is no income tax in Florida, which happens to be the biggest selling point (no pun intended) to players outside of proximity to live gator tours.

Someone forgot to tell Brobrovsky about the Florida income tax.... maybe then he would've realized your supposed to take a discount when signing in Florida.

@Dekes For Days Is Marner still a better playoff performer than Point???

Rolling into next year with lowered expectations for a $11 milion player so he might surprise... feels like a simulate till next, next season kind of year...
Marner much like Bruno Caboclo is two years away from being two years away

If that's going to happen: we're going to need to see a green highlighted text saying "Confirmed with link: Kyle Dubas fired as Maple Leafs GM"
If that's what it takes to get rid of this soft, selfish player, then I'm all for firing Dubas.

They’ll have enough trouble making the playoffs next year. Trading Marner and his 100 points will only make it more difficult.

Yeah but the brain trust around here would say that making the playoffs isnt important as long as you play well in them.

I honestly believe this is not truly being considered enough.
  • Tampa is winning the division, period
  • Florida showed they can hang with Tampa in the regular season
  • Boston is Boston
That leaves the Leafs to fight for the chance to play Boston or Florida in the first round, or play the division winner - Tampa/Metropolitan division #1 seed in the first round.

But then when you look at the rest of the Eastern Conference, most of the teams ahead of us aren't going anywhere, or are young hungry teams on the rise.

One Jack Campbell or Auston Matthews groin pull and this team could be facing (another) humiliation of not even being a playoff team.
At least then we can talk about Dubas' truly being fired and a new guy inheriting the team with fresh ideas, and hopefully an itchy trade finger when it comes to Mitch Manure

Yes but making the playoffs then shitting the bed in them 5 years running is kinds hollow, isn’t it?

I never thought Marner was worth 10.9 mil a year but in fairness he is a way better player than this thread is giving him credit for.
