Anyone can feel subjectively offended by anything. That shouldn’t give them the ultimate power to have somebody suspended or fired. This is a little different than the out of control cancel culture we've been seeing. This wasn't a case of someone digging up something he said 20 years ago and ruining his life over it. This is something he said now, that negatively affected a group of people in the industry now. Telling women who have worked in a male dominated field and have spent their entire careers putting up with mansplaining, unwanted advances, and straight up sexism to "stop being so sensitive" is a bad look. It doesn't matter whether you or I think his comments were offensive. If it was offensive to them, than it was.

The *fact* is that Milbury was speaking the truth in the form of an innocuous joke. Sometimes truth hurts.
You think hockey players don’t have groupies?
You think the term “puck bunny” was fabricated out of thin air?
You think there aren’t women who follow certain players around to different cities & find out what hotels they’re staying at?
You think pro athletes don’t get distracted chasing tail?
Milbury’s joking reference to the fact that hockey players can be distracted by women is nothing but truth & wasn’t mean-spirited.
Most women know it’s true. A few who choose to act offended by the truth shouldn’t have the power to cost someone their job.
I can't see, but I'd bet every single thing I own that I know who's defending Milbury.
It’s just another example of giving extreme power to a tiny group of people who love being offended & trying to get people fired. And that’s a dangerous societal trend. Milbury’s joke should cause nothing more than a roll of the eyes if you choose to be offended by hearing the truth. He didn’t use any slurs. And in reality he was mocking the players, not women, for how the players are easily distracted. A non-mean-spirited reference to the age-old truism that pro athletes chase women is nothing one should lose his job over. I guarantee these offended women have said & done far worse.Of course there's truth to it. Everyone knows that. It's also completely irrelevant. Just because something is true, doesn't mean it can't be offensive. And it certainly doesn't mean it's appropriate to talk about on a live broadcast. If he loses his job over this, it won't be because of "A few who choose to act offended by the truth". It will be because he has no clue how to be a professional on the air, and has no business being in the booth.
I’m reading that Milbury is not gonna be on tonight’s broadcast. In his apology and NBC’s statement they didn’t say he’s fired.
Hold on a second. Have you seen his Wonderlic score? He'd demolish you in a logic test.Winner winner chicken dinner. I unhid one post. It nearly blinded me with its sheer stupidity and absence of logic.
I think there's an argument to be made that he was a worse gm than analyst given that he singlehandedly set a franchise back two decadesIf there was a meritocracy in place in the NHL...
Milbury's formal association with the league would have ended in 1987 most likely.
Solid player
Mediocre to poor coach
Awful GM
Horrific analyst

Anyone else trying to dig up profile of that guy who liked that post?
This is the problem. It is extremely easy. It’s not cancel culture. It’s empathy and understanding that shit like this isn’t tolerated anymore. It’s just another example of giving extreme power to a tiny group of people who love being offended & trying to get people fired. I very much dislike a gotcha society where everyone is filming you & looking for any slip up in an effort to get you canceled. Especially because everyone is a hypocrite.
It is cancel culture. We’re careening toward a society where no one can tell a joke, because someone will always be offended. This is the problem. It is extremely easy. It’s not cancel culture. It’s empathy and understanding that shit like this isn’t tolerated anymore.
nothing more. Nothing less.
