Player Discussion: official trade deadline 2025 // discussion thread

Apparently Sabres are trying to extend Zucker and he’s injured currently. So yeah maybe staying put is the only play.

This may be the worst deadline ever tomorrow.

Compared to what? This whole season feels like Christmas and we have definitely had worse deadlines.

Remember the deadline when people got wound up thinking Domi had some value and then we traded him for Hreschuk?
Compared to previous deadlines? I’m not just talking about CBJ here. I think league wide tomorrow will be a dud if Rantanen doesn’t move.

Yeah, that deadline is basically what I expect tomorrow to be like for us.

I think of the trade deadline as more like a couple weeks now and not a day. So I was counting the Jones trade and the Bjorkstrand and Gourde deals as part of it, along with whatever else has been going on. Lots of trades I'm not paying attention to.

Well I was joking but

I don’t know Fischer, but this looks like we’re dumpster diving. His stats look worse than anyone currently on our roster with the possible exception of Labate. Does he even offer more than Pyythia?

I know Waddell said he was hoping to work the edges, but this looks like the fringes.

I think in general, not in terms of just the CBJ

Not many teams being truly out of it has a couple of implications:

Fewer teams selling
The path to the Cup looks crowded so there is high risk for a team to go all in this year

If we say Beckman .500 and better teams still have a shot, only 2 teams are out in the East. In the West, Colorado is a freaking wild card team.

I think Tampa made moves because the Hughes injury really hurts the Devils. Are people taking the Caps seriously? Toronto has never done anything, the Canes seem like a mess after the big trade, and Florida might have the hangover after to Cup finals. It makes sense for Tampa make some high risk moves to try for one last Cup in their window given the situation in the East. But I don’t know that any other team should.

I don't think it's reasonable to consider this move an instead-of regarding a deadline acquisition via trade. Which is not to say there will be one. But it's certainly potentially in-addition-to.

GMs are always looking for ways to improve their rosters, and their organizations, as the should be and as most will tell you straight out.

Pyythia has been pretty good but if this move keeps him in Cleveland where they could use him and where he might be better served, the it's good. If it means that the next player back from injury means LaBate goes back down, that's probably good too. It could be seen as a short-term Sillinger replacement It could be seen as just another hedge against guys getting hurt down the stretch.

Again, I'm not predicting there will be a trade today or tomorrow. I'[m arguing that this claim does not preclude that option.

If Fabbro wants to kick the tires on free agency, so be it. The big carrot CBJ can offer him, besides money, is the chance to play with Z. Not sure there is an opportunity like that elsewhere. Circle back to him after the season with an offer.
Vancouver. Not only is it his hometown, they can offer him the only better D partner in the league than Z: Quinn Hughes. And they need RHD. He's gone.
