Reading through a thread on the History forum, Los Angeles only used their first round pick three times in their first sixteen seasons. The firsts they traded in the 70s and 80s were used to select...

Reggie Leach
Dick Redmond
Steve Shutt
Andre Savard
Mario Tremblay
Ron Duguay
Ray Bourque
Phil Housley
Tom Barrasso
Ed Olczyk

And two of the seconds they traded to MTL in that same time were used to select Larry Robinson and Claude Lemieux.

I know, hindsight again, but holy hell

Montreal took advantage of lots and lots and lots of organizations over the years.

Oh please... check my privilege....

Do you actually live in reality? Last time I checked the human race still existed due to the sexual nature of things. The guy said roughly "because there aren't any women here" not "grab them by the p***y" or "treat em like hoes" or etc. Frankly that was an actual problem with Richards and Carter but yeah ok.... professional male athletes don't go chasing women. Or... Jeremy Roenick. I swear some of you live in an alternate reality.

As far as rude comments go the one Mike Milbury said of Tukka Rask was far worse but you don't hear the PC culture chiming up about that. That's the comment that should of gotten him fired.

Women know sex sells otherwise there wouldn't be a SI swimsuit edition and etc. Hell one of the women complaining about the comment essentially auctioned herself off for superbowl tickets. Sarah Spain - Wikipedia

Bad take. Really bad take.

meh.. until someone actually justifies why its offensive I'll have the opinion of "meh" on what he said. At worst its an offcolor joke. Milbury is an idiot whose analyst is garbage and should of been canned way before this.

Calling a woman a distraction immediately sexualizes a woman.

Women should not be perceived as sexual objects.

Its disrespectful to the women in the players families, women working in the sport, and all female fans in general.

Pretty simple, moving on.

Guess we don't live in a world where women sexualize themselves.

Another really bad take.

A man or woman can choose to sexualize themselves. Thats their prerogative.

Its certainly not a 65 year old blowhards place to reduce all women to sexual objects on the air.

If you cant figure that out, thats on you.

Nobody has to justify anything to anyone. It speaks volumes about people who seem to have difficulty deciding what should or shouldn’t be said.

Talk about blowing up what he said. You act as if he went on some tirade about women. Anyways I'll stop here since neither of us are ever going to agree.

Of all the things to blow up about Milbury, they picked "theres not even any women to distract them" is the comment they picked to burn him at the stake.

And people are up in arms as if single NHL players aren't well known for chasing tail all season, or that family life can't be a distraction to sport

Its when outrage like this unites the bigots and ignorant everywhere to proclaim that the snowflake generation is upon us. It does nothing but distract from the very real and damaging sexism that holds back women.

But yeah, take the fight to a 65 year old pillock that shouldn't even be on the TV.

To be honest, I think he was joking that the guys are distracted and not that women are being distracting. I don’t think it’s gonna alienate anyone from watching a single hockey game.
I’m all for him getting fired though. I think his Rask criticism was much worse.

I think it's just the culmination of many absurd things Milbury has said that reveal who he is as a person.

In the end, what he's saying is that if men are distracted by women, it's somehow the fault of women.

Which sounds perfectly on-brand for Milbury.

Patrick was the consensus second overall pick; he was talked about as the likely first overall for much of his draft year. Hischier vs. Patrick was debated here and the consensus was that the Flyers were the lucky ones because New Jersey would have to make the tough choice between the two. They were never taking anyone other than Patrick at number 2. It just totally stings that the three players who went right after him all look to be budding superstars.

Also, Nick Suzuki went at 13, which is where the Flyers would've picked had they not won that lottery. No guarantee they would've picked him, but just adding to the sting. Silver lining of that first round, of course, is Frost, who I'm looking forward to watching when he makes the NHL full time in 2023. (Though we'd probably be saying the same about Suzuki if he had wound up here)
Catching up on this thread today. On the Patrick issue, we don't know how good he could be due to injuries. He seemed to be on the verge of being in physical shape for the first time last season.
Then the migraines started. I realize that he missed all of this season but I'm for giving him some slack and want to see if he can answer the bell in the fall before writing him off. Its one thing when a player fails for a lack of talent or motivation; its another when its due to injury.
Flyers fans get visions of Lindros in their mind when a player has the problems that NP is experiencing right now. Migraines aren't concussions and can be treatable. If NP finds a cure, we'll have to just see who was the best pick from that draft. He has the size, skill and shot to be a dominant player.

Lindros was already a star in this league injuries & all at Patrick’s age. It’s not just injuries that are the cause concern, it’s his actual play to date too.

But it is what it is. Every organization would have taken Patrick at #2. But even with Hischier at #1 this was always a draft where your upside/floor of the top two consensus picks wasn’t as high as other years. So the possibility of someone behind them ending up better was always more of a better possibility than most years.

Yeah when the top picks are "projected" to be 60ish point centers in their prime...or are compared to Monahan level, it leaves it wide open for someone else to be the best player in the draft. Just our luck, not only is there no McDavid/Eichel level guys that year, but who we DO get, can't even play.
