Calgary probably should've traded Gaudreau after 2020-2021 if he wasn't willing to sign an extension.
That's like a Fletcher contract offerPanthers offered Giroux 1yr , 1 mill per Lebrun on overdrive lol
Their cap is a mess
Mother of god.
I forgot that accumulating assets and cap space is a weapon. What a fit he’d be for that team. I can’t even imagine what his RFA rights would cost. Short of their untouchables, everything should be on the table. Holtz, Nemec, picks. If they want to get it done, they have the stuff. Did you factor in Bratt’s contract? I group him with the untouchables.
That wouldn’t be trading his rights though that would be trading him. Teams should try to do that more often though. NHL lagging behind.Yeah I could have sworn Carolina was offering a sign & trade with Hamilton for that 8th year. That was the way to get around it but obviously they don’t really happen in the NHL.
Which his agent probably had already determined.Look at this UFA D crop this year. Risto would have cleaned up tomorrow. His mindset really is a perfect fit for this team.
thank god for that lolWe know that trading for a player’s rights does not let you give them an 8 year deal.
We know that because Kevin Hayes has a 7 year contract.
All the talk up here is he is no going to re-sign in Calgary long termFascinated to see what happens to Tkachuk, in need of a contract. You have to wonder if him signing long term was contingent on Gaudreau.
Valley Chuck.Traded to the Sens. Sens get rid of a terrible goalie only to get a better one for less. The exact opposite of peak Chuck
Detroitpalat testing FA as well. Interested to see where he goes
I don't really understand the complaining about Pittsburgh's contracts. They won their 3 Cups with this crew; they're still good enough to win a round or two, unlike Chicago's old core in recent years. Unless you go full tear down (which they won't with Crosby signed for 3 years), ride off into the sunset with still decent hockey. The Penguins on the 16th hole of their current era are still better than anything the Flyers have done since 2010. It's just legacy building at this point, so it's okay to approach it with that perspective. The 35+ stuff just seems irrelevant.
Not to mention Malkin 36-38 will be far better than Hayes at 30 and for $1 million less lol
I'm not ruling out Calgary. They have some big names to resign, yes, but they did just lose Gaudreau, and Palat would go a long way towards easing that sting.palat testing FA as well. Interested to see where he goes
I have nothing against Gaudreau, he's a great player, but the Flyers signing him now is not good for this team atmGaudreau is fantastic and I would love him on my team. But the contract is going to be ugly.
Yeah, we're not dealing with low-tier former stars. Malkin is one of the best few players of his generation, and he has aged as such. He's not in free fall, despite injuries. He can still over-perform much of that contract, and no one can say with a straight face Pittsburgh should've done anything but re-sign him.
