Cassidy is an asshole but he's also a good HC, he got Vegas to buy into blocking shots and doing what it took to win last year. They're a team built for the playoffs.

Montgomery has done a great job in Boston in the regular season, but they went belly up in the playoffs, remains to be seen if this season will be another smoke and mirrors job or last year's PO performance was just one of those things.
I’ve always thought last season showed that Montgomery is a great coach. Looking at the all time season records Boston sticks out like a sore thumb. They are a good team but they greatly overachieved IMO, which is probably a sign of good coaching

Lappy is already their heir
I doubt it. A plus for him is that he’s shown little to nothing at LHV to illustrate that he’s HC material. However, on the other side, he’s not one of Tort’s boys while Sullivan is.
Unless Pittsburgh turns things around fast, he may be canned and be on the open market. Rumors were that the Penguins were close to letting him go after last season. I’d be all for hiring him and having him run the PP. He’d do a better job of that than Rocky the Flying Squirrel has done.

The Flyers have no proven to me that theyve changed enough. For me, no level of incompetence is impossible.

He’s shown little to nothing that he should be employed in any position for a decade now and yet here he is.

It wouldn’t surprise me in the least.

Sullivan has won a SC which says something. He’s had his ups and downs as a coach at different levels but has has shown an ability to adapt with the game. In recent years he’s managed to turn a god awful Penguin’s defense into something respectable. At the same time patching a declining offense together. All of this while working with a FO that has been a grease fire. There’s worse guys to be ACs than him if he were available.

It would be a good situation for Sullivan after having to deal with GMs who didn't have a clue.
He could help build the team he'd take over in a couple years, while the Pens paid his salary.

In fact, I'd try to talk him into repeating what he did with the Pens, coach LHV for a couple years, so he'd be able to mold the prospects he'd then coach on the Flyers when he took over. But he's probably past the point of wanting to ride buses.

If Briere gets to hire a coach he gonna need to hit a home run to stay as GM much longer.
Huh? What? Hilferty has expressed zero impatience with the rebuild. Briere has at least a 3 year window before he has to show results (i.e. after Michkov arrives).

You spent years bashing Sullivan and insisting he did nothing special and was just along for the ride. Now he's getting credit?

Look for Sullivan to get canned in Pittsburgh and brought on by Tortorella. HC in waiting when Torts bounces up the ladder.
Never going to happen. Pittsburgh would be on the hook for his salary till he got another job, unless they paid him his entire contract up-front (which I'm not sure they can do). His new contract kicks in after this season until the end of '26-'27, so I can't see him taking an enormous financial hit to become an assistant coach with the Flyers. He'd be leaving millions on the table to come here.

If they fire him, they're still on the hook for his contract, they could force him to stick around but what organization wants the former HC to be talking to the press about the current FO while he picks his nose in an office doing a nothing job?

Flyers could bring him in as an "advisor" with no or nominal pay while he tolls his former contract.
Depends on the fine print, but odds are since the Flyers would be willing to wait until 2027-28, and Sullivan, knowing Michkov is on the way as well as other prospects, would be happy to collect his salary on the sidelines until the Pens relent and cut a deal for the Flyers to pay him instead.

Good on the NHL recognizing that Metlife isn't in New York. Looks like they're the only league that isn't a bunch of cowards (in that regard).

They're also the only league with a team nominally, as well as actually, in New Jersey, so it feels like there's incentive there that other leagues don't have.
