Note you
Rossi is bringing down Dewar and Shaw's development, at this point. I tried to tell you guys that Rossi was not the best forward in Iowa last year. That would be Dewar, followed by, in no particular order, Rau, Shaw, and Rossi.

This year Dewar is playing decently, and more importantly bringing some of the grit that Evason wants. Shaw has been playing like a man possessed. Rossi looks...overwhelmed.

I am not sure what the right path forward is for Rossi. If he doesn't have a couple of good game/points soon , then going down to Iowa wouldn't be the worst thing.
Now you know what it’s like talking to a wall, or many :lol

I'm glad you said this and not me...

Today I learned that waivers now run at 1PM instead of 11AM like times of old. Man, I'm out of the loop.

Expected to see Jost news already.

Well then it’s just another $2M that was blocked this offseason from being able to improve the roster.

Maybe. Hindsight is 20/20, and I know a lot of people weren't thrilled about the move to begin with, but I still don't have a problem with taking the chance on him. It doesn't excuse not improving the roster with what you have left, but strictly in terms of taking a shot on Jost, I'm alright with it.

Thumbs up to Evason and Guerin for dealing with the Jost situation, and thank you, Buffalo Sabres!

Was never a fan of the move, but there's worse things than taking a chance on a 23-24 yo who had flashed skill at lower levels.

Now are building up some cap space to make another acquisition. Realistically, I can see BG going for a veteran grinder with some "bite", as they like to say. Preferably some speed, too.

Less realistically, this allows BG more flexibility to move someone like Dumba to a cap strapped team, maximizing our return by either retaining, or taking back a bad contract.

I think he is going down now. I don’t like dewar, I don’t think he belongs.

Not saying he is great, but he has been clearly better than Rossi, and IMO, better than Steel, and Jost. If you look at the way his playing time has increased, you can see that I am not the only one with that opinion. At his cap hit, he is a useful player.

I've always liked Dewar. I think he has more skill than he's been able to show so far. I'm not breaking any ground here, but I think the directive to guys like Dewar and Rossi (pretty much everyone in the bottom six) is to sheathe the skill and "play the right way", for better or worse. I think that's part of the reason Rossi sucks right now, and why Dewar seems largely ineffective as well. Dewar can play the "right way" better than Rossi can though, so it doesn't hinder Dewar's game as much.

I’d rather have the ability to add a $4-5.5M player (Burakovsky, Nino, Bjorkstrand, Kane, etc) than taking a flyer on someone who hasn’t looked like anything special. Especially when the team had a desperate need to replace what they were losing in Fiala.

That's fair too, but I'd wonder if Guerin would have gone after anyone like that even if we did have the space. We still came in with 3.5ish and he didn't use it.

I was ok with his not using that cap space then, and I'm even more ok with it today. I wanted him to wait to see what we needed most, so he could address that need with actual knowledge rather than speculation. It turns out darn near everything is a need, and there was no way he was going to be able to address that, so I'm glad he didn't jump the gun and waste the space. This season seems like a reckoning, not a time to actually go for it.

The biggest issue is that Guerin isn't going to feel the pressure to build a competent team if there isn't some heat on him now.

Same fans:

He got a top 5 pick. Oh he's building for the future, good for him.
He got the 12th pick? At least he tried to get the playoffs.
He gets into the playoffs and blown out? Hey, he got the team to the playoffs. He's good.

The heat on Guerin is directly related to the expectations that he gave Leipold, which none of us truly know.

What we type on our computers doesn't make a bit of difference.

Haha...Tyson Jost picked on the Wild when he talked to Sabres reporters, I guess this was a shot aimed at Guerin and Evason..."we were walking on eggshells after a bad start this season", "lots of line changes, I never found my rhythm in that lineup".
