Like Jeff Foxworthy said, a lot of women before they break up, they've already cut another pony off from the herd and if she's not riding him yet, she's at least pulled the saddle out of the barn.

Okay, shut down the site. This is the best post I've seen in like...forever. :)

Here's an article from 2004 talking generally about Oxycodone/oxycontin and its effect on pro athletes: http://articles.latimes.com/2004/aug/01/sports/sp-d2dawgcomment1

Interestig reading for a little background on the drug itself.

I don't get why my most recent post in this discussion that discussed the serious problems caused by the drug was removed, but okay.

And now we've discovered he was arrested. Three arrests in one season. I think the Kings are trying to one up the New England Patriots.

Alrighty... Great to have some more details.

So a two week investigation for possession? Is that normal? I mean the evidence is right there, what else is there to figure out? As you can tell, I'm not very familiar with legal processes.

If Mike was using that stuff, that might provide some answers to his decline in play. Obviously we still don't really know that much. I know my friend back in Buffalo, NY can't go to Canada for ten years because he has a DUI. But he also isn't a professional hockey player nor does he work in Canada and US has different laws than Canada but I'm curious if he is charged with something relating to illegal substances, how that might impact his immigration status.

Anyway, still not much to discuss here since few details have been released.

He is inadmissible into the United States with a drug conviction other than a one time possession of marijuana of less than 30 grams. There are waivers than can be applied for (that's an awkward sentence) but depending on the actual charge for which he is convicted They can be tough to get.

No no no no. This can't be it. That's not nearly enough to terminate a contract. OxyContin? That's laughable. My aunt got those for pain killers. There's absolutely no, zero, zilch way Lombardi's would terminate a contract for possession of OxyContin. What Voynov allegedly did is TEN times worse than this and DL never terminated his contract.

Please tell me there's more to this, please.

What did/didn't happen to Voynov's contract does not have bearing on Richards contract, in my non-law-degree-holding opinion.

Besides, think I read on here that the Kings can't do jack **** about his contract since he is suspended by the league.

They're like monkeys. They never let go of the branch until they have a firm grasp on the next one.

We don't have all the facts in evidence.

You seem to keep forgetting the NHL approved the contract termination.

“@friesensunmedia: Sources tell Wpg Sun Mike Richards subject of OxyContin investigation. Held at least 4 hrs at Emerson border crossing in Manitoba, June 17.â€
“@friesensunmedia: Richards was detained while attempting to cross into Canada at Emerson. Manitoba Mounties conducting the investigation.â€

“@friesensunmedia: Richards has not been charged. A person with OxyContin pills and no prescription could face smuggling charge under the Customs Act… 1/2..â€

“@friesensunmedia: 2/2… or possession charges under the Criminal Code’s Controlled Drugs and Substances Act. OxyContin is a narcotic pain reliever.â€

He also said Richards was formally arrested.

Canada is on the metric system and one of their days equals one of our weeks.

"Paul Friesen ‏@friesensunmedia 7m7 minutes ago
Source says Mike Richards was formally arrested at border crossing, not merely detained for questioning. Investigation now at two-week mark."

So he was arrested.

Why does it take so long for Lombardi to find out Richards was arrested?

Definitely. It can affect dizziness, fatigue, and strength.

I hope Richards gests some help.

You serious?

That's just a couple of articles. Heath Ledger had a dangerous cocktail of drugs, including Oxy, found in his toxicology report.

Hard to say. Possibly Dean Lombardi is on hair-trigger after the Stoll incident earlier this year and the additional stress of everything Voynov? Remember how Lombardi said he could barely operate for 4 days after hearing the news of Stoll?

I don't see Lombardi saying 'eff it, let's terminate!' but I could see Dean being more prone to a rash decision.

That hurts to read. I'm still stinging years after a girl pulled a move like this with me. So...so true.

So you think there's more to it, right?

Has to be. We don't know if possession is the reason for detention (although one could reasonably assume this), we don't know the quantity, and we don't know whether there existed a prescription (although one can reasonably assume that given almost two weeks since the event that Richards could have produced one by now).
