Far too naive of a position to take. It's like saying that Yzerman in responsible for the success of the prospects the Wings draft. He might have influence in how the organization views elements of amateur scouting, but he realistically is not identifying talent. It's simply not feasible to expect him to.so, the moves made before Avila was GM were Avila's fault, and the picks that have or might work out while Avila was GM he doesn't get credit for. Yeah, makes sense in a grindy axy sort of way.
I still can't believe it's contentious to say that Avila did a piss poor job as GM.
If Avila wasn't a bad GM, there's never been a bad GM in pro sports.
Giving him credit for Greene doesn’t even change anything though. I’m a big Greene fan, but it’s not like Greene takes him from an awful GM to something better than an awful GM. He was still awful, in nearly every way.

Mimms is an extremely interesting "gamble" to take. Its not really a gamble because they gave up almost nothing. Hes essentially DJ Chark from last year without the track record though. Massive X receiever with 4.3 speed and was highly touted coming out. He just hasnt had an QB play whatsoever to help him out.Wonder if Ben Johnson can get a tune outta Mimms, that would be a nice boost with Jamo out.
It's definitely good to see Torkelson and Greene breaking out. Hopefully Greene can stay healthy. I don't think Torkelson is a GG type... isn't his defense pretty brutal?Same. Making a good top 5 pick doesnt come close to moving the needle for me.
As for the actual Tigers, Tork is actually slowly turning his season around here. On pace for 25 home runs or so. I think theres a guy in there that can hit .270 and 30 HRs a year while being a possible gold glove at 1st.
I really hope Tork pans out (I know we all do). I liked the pick. In a vacuum, I loathe the idea of taking a 1B at first OA, or even anywhere near the top of a draft. But his bat was special, and the Tigers really needed pure hitters, so it made a lot of sense given the other options. I’m excited about him turning things around… if the Tigers can wind up with a Clark-Greene-Tork-Keith top of the lineup, watch out. It’s almost certainly a fantasy, I doubt all 4 hit their ceilings. But until they don’t I’m going to hopelessly romanticize the idea lol.Same. Making a good top 5 pick doesnt come close to moving the needle for me.

Gonna be weird to see a Baltimore-Cincinnati WS in 5 years. It's definitely good to see Torkelson and Greene breaking out. Hopefully Greene can stay healthy. I don't think Torkelson is a GG type... isn't his defense pretty brutal?
Speaking of rebuilds, Baltimore looks to be absolutely f***ing loaded... Rutschmann, Henderson, Rodriguez, Holliday, Cowser, Westburg and others. Must be nice!

Soooo, EdRod invoked his NTC to block the trade to LA, so he could be closer to his family? On the east coast? For 2 months? How many times is this guy going to visit his family on the east coast in the next 2 months while the season is going on?
….unless he’s actually planning to not opt out of his contract after this season.
I trust that Harris played the cards he was dealt the best he could (can't prove it, but I'm giving him the benefit of the doubt). My gripe is with EdRod, especially if he opts out of his contract. If he's planning to stay in Detroit, well, ok I guess. I think this is a career year, though, and his value will never be higher, so this trade that never happened is unfortunate either way.I think people are raking Harris over the coals a little too hard on this one. If Erod extends in Detroit/doesnt opt out, its probably a smart play to not move him.
It also sounds like ERod said he would go to LA and after the fact (probably discussing with his wife) turned around and said nevermind. Put Harris in a tough spot for sure, but too many people are being way too reactionary about it
