Yeah it's such a shame. Despite his flaws, Caldwell left a pretty good core here that a quality coach could've potentially taken to the next level. Instead, Quin and Patricia basically left the organization in tatters. I really miss Slay in particular, one of my favorite Lions of all time.

I'm cautiously optimistic about the Holmes/Campbell project so far. I will say as much as we love Campbell, I think the standards will start to change as the team becomes more competitive, and he's exhibited some questionable game management that needs to be buttoned up. I'm hoping that Holmes is prepared to leverage a package around both of our 1sts to solve the quarterback problem this summer. Very easy to root for Holmes and Campbell though, I really do hope they can build something here, even if it's not necessarily a Superbowl contending team.

Patricia, sheesh. Rivaled only by Ausmus imo for the most damaging Detroit sports coach of the 2000s.

At least building a team that can win a playoff game is good enough for me lol

I’m hoping for 8 or so wins but not real sure about the defense.
The lions schedule is really good for them but I still think 8 wins is their ceiling. I expect more like 6.

Not sure about the defense at all either, but one thing I will say is that this preseason Hutchinson looks like the absolute real deal. Hes lived in the backfield the entire time hes been out there and hes going to really help the secondary. Okudah is going to be interesting this year too. Played really well in preseason/camp, if they can even get solid CB2 play out of him the defense looks a lot better as well.

Oh don’t get me wrong I’m 100% with you there. The Lions have not won a playoff game in my entire life. Even if we gritted out a wildcard victory I would probably cry actual tears. Championships are always the goal, but I certainly don’t think that’s the only path to the Holmes/Campbell project being considered a success. Honestly I consider Caldwell’s tenure to be a success for the most part, although I recognize the shortcomings.

Spencer Torkelson and Rookie Ryan Kreidler coming to Detroit tomorrow with the expanded rosters
Boy I hope Torkelson can pull out of his nosedive. He started to come around in Toledo for a minute recently, but then flat-lined again. I'm not very confident bringing him back up is the right move. He's still young and I'm not worried, but the Tigers franchise is already in the dumps, last thing they need is for one of their two star prospect hitters to bust.

Good to see Kreidler get a shot, not sure I expect much from him at this point though. I had some mild excitement about his partial season in Toledo last season, but he's really only been mediocre in 2022. Could still be a useful utility guy for a while though.

Wake the f*** up, boys! Big Ten champs coming back around!

Bummer that they start with cream puffs until the BIG season. Don’t like these early season games outside of praying for chaos.

It's always been one of my hangups with college football. Hopefully the playoff expansion to 12 teams will end the token matchups.
Heard that. Whatever you think of Oregon; I give them all the credit scheduling tOSU and Georgia as season openers. I'm tired of ranked teams playing teams like Bob Smitty's Technical School For Underwater Welding the first 3-4 games.

Hutch has looked great but the defense and youth is what will hold this team back this year. The linebackers (a 6th round pick rookie is going to be a starter for Pete's sake lol) and dbacks just aren't talented enough. Hoping Okudah can play like a first rounder after the inury issues, the guy is basically still a rookie at this point. 6-8 wins is realistic.

It has been almost a month since the Tigers parted ways with GM Al Avila, and since Lynn Henning of The Detroit News notes that ownership puts a high priority on keeping matters close to the vest, there hasn’t been much public news about potential targets to take over the front office. However, Hennig lists current Tigers assistant GM Sam Menzin, Dodgers senior VP of baseball ops Josh Byrnes, and Cardinals special assistant to the GM Matt Slater as “three people are believed to be under heavy consideration” for the full-time general manager role.

Several other front office members from multiple teams were also mentioned as plausible further candidates, though Henning was more circumspect about naming any of this group as surefire names in the hunt — Twins assistant GM Daniel Adler, Braves VP of scouting Dana Brown, Cardinals assistant GM Randy Flores, Guardians assistant GM James Harris, Orioles VP and assistant GM Sig Mejdal, Astros assistant GM Pete Putila, and Rays VP of baseball operations Carlos Rodriguez. Former Tigers director of baseball operations Mike Smith could also potentially receive consideration.

The Lions Hard Knocks was one of the better ones I've seen in a good while. And basically no drama and all about a team working to get back to being relevant. Good stuff.

I'm a Dan Campbell fan, that's for sure.

They couldnt have featured a more uninteresting group of players though. Outside of Hutch and Rodrigo the player choice was really weak.

Still one of the better seasons but really tailed off the last couple episodes I thought

Hard Knocks was brilliant. Bring on the Emmy's and Golden Globes. I subscribed to HBO Max just for this. Almost tempted to dive into past seasons but will it be worthwhile when I have already experienced the magic of the Lions edition of Hard Knocks?
