I don't think anyone would have accepted a failed 4th and 4 there. The argument would have been that the team had struggled on offense in the second half. The three previous drives before the missed field goal went as follows:

3 plays, -2 total yards, punt
4 plays, 18 yards, punt
10 plays, 48 yards, failed 4th & 1 conversion attempt.

There was clearly no reason to trust Seibert, but there wasn't reason to trust the offense either. Run the clock, punt, and pray to a higher power that Amani Oruwariye re-learns how to play man coverage without groping wide receivers every snap.

Frankly, given the fact that they went for it several times on 4th and whatever, everyone would have. Kicking the FG, even if it was made, did nothing. Minnesota would have still driven down and score and won that way. You have one of the best punters in the league at pinning teams deep. Pin him deep, give Cousins not a lot of time and/or space and you come away. And if you leave it at 3 points and having to go 80-90 yards, the Vikings would play for the FG as opposed to you essentially gifting them the FG by starting them at the 45.

This was a time where going for it on 4th and 4 ices the game and you can understand it. The ones in the first half and the one just before on 4th and 1 that led to their TD? Didn't get that.

I have a feeling Tucker’s contract is not going to see the end of term at MSU.

Also, it is ridiculous that the Lions go for it as much as they do. They have an unironically fabulous punter. Jack Fox is as close to a weapon as you're going to get at that position. I have no doubts that Minny would have been pinned deep down 3 with about two minutes. I like that scenario one hell of a lot more than Cousins gets the ball at the 45 needing one halfway decent completion to put the tying FG in their pocket.

As a fan of the other team, I didn't have a lot of faith in getting a stop. Was pretty surprised at that outside run towards the end there where a few guys converged on the ball and got the stop. Could understand why your coaches may have had a lot of confidence in going for it.

Have been pretty impressed by the Lions offense so far.

In y'alls experience, which ticket site offers the best "out the door" price/cost for Wings games? Seems like perhaps it's Vivid Seats. I'm also looking at Seat Geek and StubHub.

I'm just...I mean...really? 45 points and you still can't win? It's just so annoying how this defense plays so badly. The offense was without their top two threats and still put up 45. I love Aaron Glen, but he has to go.

Walker injured. Rookies are the best players on defense and the depth is so bad that Amani Oruwariye is starting. There is not a DC in the league that is turning this group into a passable defense. Holmes has not been the most active in defensive signings and that may be by design. They will never tell us their true intentions but I am convinced the only genuine objective for '22 was improving over '21.

Nobody expected the Lions' defense to be dominant, but allowing 48 points from the Geno Smith-led Seahawks at home still is too much for me. And in spite of big signings, Holmes did invest in the defense, both by several draft picks (i.e. drafting two DTs early last year) and some signings (Brockers even got an extension). I really do not get why the Lions watch Anzalone struggle at LB for the second year in a row now.

There is a silver lining, though: The offense looks set (Goff in particular) and finishing below .500 plus weaker Rams would yield two nice first-round picks to fill the multiple holes on defense.

Brockers is washed. One of the worst DT's in '22 and nothing to write home about last year. There will be some relief, though, after the bye when a trip of players should be returning. Jerry Jacobs will help the DB play improve.

Hoping they can do enough to stick it to Patricia and spoil the return of Pat the Patriot.

I mean, it's the Lions, I knew they'd be bad, and very likely worse than the common projections, but... wow. Glad I stopped investing any emotion into this franchise many years ago. It's like a trainwreck that never ends.

These are the games that wear good men down into bitter Same Old Lionsers.

I didn’t expect us to be good this year, but it’s hard not to question whether you’re seeing enough improvement.

You came into the season expecting to see 3 general improvements.

Offense should get better with Ben Johnson and a group of guys with a year together.

Defense should get better with influx of talent, as the talent was in the pits to begin with. This is harder to see because the defense wasn’t complete shit last year.

Dan Campbell should get better a year in with lessons learned and experience.

I can say one of them is definitely true. The other two are definitely not happening and arguably have gotten worse.

Dan Campbell’s in game decisions are starting to reek of emotionally driven desperation. The team is easy to play against. Predictable. They lack the “grit” identity they were aiming to build.

I am loving this Michigan football team, they haven’t come close to their ceiling. McCarthy is a QB that can take a game over, but they haven’t needed him to do that because Corum decided he was going to make a run at the Heisman. The offensive line is amazing, they are the engine of the team. Michigan absolutely dominated the line of scrimmage today (both sides of the ball), against the number 5 run defense. Tomorrow I am taking November 26 off, it is going to be 11-0 Michigan 11-0 Ohio winner take all.
