Ok, so for you guys following the Lions more closely than I (probably all of you), what's the outlook for the future of the QB position? Last I saw, the Alabama and OSU QBs are projected to go 1-2 in next year's draft. Is that still how it's looking? Is the expectation that the Lions will be a bottom-2 team again and snag one of those guys? Or are there other good QB's lower in that draft class that still have more promise than Goff?

They shouldn’t be bottom 2 with any improvement, and the other QBs have yet to reveal themselves for next year

The offense doesnt really have a single question mark except at QB
I agree with the overall message. But in today's NFL they need at least one more RB to compliment Swift. And that's assuming he stays healthy going forward.

QB play, wide receiver reliability, is Hockenson a good tight end

There are a few questions. I think with Hock you just can’t expect him to be THE option. But he can shine with other people drawing attention. Jamo has to get healthy and prove it in the NFL. Chark needs to be consistent.

And like you mentioned, the QB question is largely unanswered

Swift and Jamaal Williams is a perfectly fine running back duo, definitely in the top half of the league.

There is literally no one that knows football and questions if Hockenson is a good tight end lol. If you wanna question if he can stay healthy sure, or if he was worth his draft position thats fine too. But theres maybe 5-7 teams in the league with a better TE than Hockenson and a couple of those would be arguable.

He went to the pro bowl his second year in the league

I missed a word in my response but "is Hock JUST a good tight end." I think he's a good tight end, but he doesn't belong in the discussion with the top tight ends. He isn't a primary option and this year proved it. His targets per game went up, his receptions per game went up, and his yardage per game was nearly flat. Teams honed in on him, limited his yardage significantly. We need him to be a bit more than just good. There are hardly any good tight ends in the league, so having a really good one would go a long way

I think we’re approaching “Fire Avila” territory. Granted, I’ve been on that train for a while, but this is pathetic. They’re losing to a gutted Oakland team (who has a better record than the Tigers) as we speak.

We’re in year seven of the rebuild and they’ve developed one good player in Skubal. Of course, the rest (Mize, Manning, Greene, Torkelson) have potential but they’re still question marks. How is that even possible?

They need to hire a forward-thinking GM, totally rebuild their farm system, and figure out how to sign international FAs. This has been the case for years.

I think the Lions are going to improve a lot. I know that is always hard to say about them, they have disappointed you so often over the years. I really don't like Goff at all either... But I think they are going to improve, they have weapons, their line play should be a ton better on both scrimmages. I actually still kind of like this coaching staff and what the organization is doing. I know they are the Lions so somehow this too will fail, but I cannot say I am not enjoying some of the decisions lately.

Any thoughts on the Nightingale appointment from MSU fans? I feel like it's a solid appointment, although I was wondering if they might take a home-run swing on Blashill when he became available. Maybe that wasn't realistic.

Nightingale definitely has a solid pedigree. I wonder if he'll be able to reestablish inroads with the NTDP kids, as it doesn't seem like the Spartans have had a lot of success there in recent years.

You answered partially for me bringing up the NTDP angle. There haven't been many headed to Lansing the past decade. Always a bonus to get at least an assistant with connections to the national program.

They must think very highly of Nightingale. Word on the street is Mike Hastings from Minnesota State interviewed for the job. I can tell you Hastings is a guy Badger fans want to be offered a mountain of cash to come to Madison.

Well, the Tigers sucked pretty much from 1989 until 2006, so there's certainly a precedent here. That was 17 years of futility. So you know you might need to be a little patient here and pencil in the playoffs for 2032 maybe.

I was patient but I jumped on the "FA" train last year. Cheap-ass teams like Cleveland and Minnesota have managed to retool and be relavant seemingly every 5 years or so, even after a fire sale of core players.

The only thing that has kept me patient is the fact the afformentioned teams haven't been gutted like the Tigs were from Dealin' Dave. That being said, Avilla has had high picks and time restock the cupboards, yet we see no progress. Not to mention they just look really bad, like, hard-to-believe-these-guys-are-pro bad.

After yesterday's 4-1 loss to the A's, they're now already down 3-0 in the bottom of the second.

Something's gotta give. I feel like Al's gonna get canned.

How many wins will the lions get next season? I wouldn’t be shocked if they start hot and lose a lot of games near the end.

After being very pessimistic last season and putting a little money down on them to under 5.5 wins, I am drinking the kool-aid right now. Really like how their offense is looking. Goff gets too much hate. The guys we added to the D-line + a little luck with health and the whole defense might be decent. The lions at +1200 to win the division isn't looking too bad. It's an Aaron Rodgers injury away from looking real good.

I don't think we have enough evidence yet to suggest that this team isn't the worst team in the NFC North yet. I tend to think that Chicago hasn't done a damn thing worthy of being considered "improved" so the Lions may catch them, but an injury to Rodgers isn't going to stop the Vikings from still being significantly better than the Lions.

I agree. I think you'll see a lot of personal and systems improvement next year, but I don't think it will be totally reflected in the record. I don't bet but I've heard Vegas has us around 6.5 wins which I think is pretty on point. 2023 is where I think you can more realistically expect a playoff push, and if not I'd say by 2024 it's probably a necessity for Campbell.

I think you're seeing something similar with the Tigers this year (although I don't think the Lions will have that degree of growing pains), and I think you'll see the same for the Pistons this upcoming season.

I mean I hope it goes different and I like some of the resume. This is exactly what Cole was though, so hopefully Nightingale proves a better recruiter. I can't help but think with all the money swirling around the Spartan athletic department that they couldn't have bought one of the bigger coaches at a smaller school. I would have liked to see them aggressively pursue Nate Leaman. I guess we will see, MSU hockey has been down for way too long, hoping the program gets going again in a better way soon, so I will be rooting for Nightingale.

Probably little else left but to go up. MSU has too much money to be that incompetent and listless. I hope they get gud, and challenge in the Big Ten. If nothing else, beat Michigan on a regular basis, rivalries aren't the same when they aren't rivalries.

On USCHO, there is some rumors about the GLI moving to GR, and that Tech doesn't need Michigan etc. I think that would just make it an irrelevant tournament, even though I feel like it's on life support now, between the same invitees and scheduling at LCA.

No offense to all the schools in Michigan, but I remember when the GLI was a showcase event, and it was cool to see teams like BC, BU, and NoDak travel to the Joe. But, it probably costs more to get them to fly to Detroit.

The same 6-7 Michigan schools gets a little ho hum. And even if the GLI moves to GR, I can't see Western being a lock, they're in a bigger conference than the CCHA, and if U of Denver wants a tourney, they'll likely be there.

If Michigan goes, MSU follows. I could see the B10 trying their own tournament at some point.
