Considering the history of where they were under Richard Peddie and Brian Burke it makes sense they are okay with the high regular season bar but the organization needs a real push to not become this eras San Jose Sharks.

In some ways, losing honourably in the first round gets us back to 2016-17 when they first lost to the Washington Capitals. Before the rot set in vs Columbus and Montreal. Take that for what it’s worth.

Not even in the same stratosphere as becoming this eras sharks

Notbias lol

You truly have room temperature IQ when it comes to hockey, not sure why you post.

Florida is a garbage market who saw their chance at a cup. They really don't care if they're ass the next 15 years

They also just accomplished more then dubas has his entire tenure. We have given away a bunch of prospects and picks for nothing and hang our hats on a mediocre thin pool to try to justify his continued employment

I'd check the picks and prospects of each team if you think what we've given up is even comparable.

Having mediocre success with second round picks isn't an excuse when you're the one that trades all the firsts away

I am fine spending, let's spend.

We can do the Florida version too, they have no success and just mortgaged their entire future. Let's do it.

I want all 1sts and Knies, Robertson, Amirov, and Niemela gone within the next 2 runs.
last I looked they are competing in the 2nd round....

Fun Fact:

The Leafs haven't won a single playoff round in 18 years, the San Jose Sharks who get ridiculed for playoff failure have won 16 playoff series during this same time since the Salary Cap was instituted in 2005.

San Jose record during that time includes making the final 4 X 4 times losing in round #3, and even losing in the SCF to Pittsburgh in 2016, Leafs haven't even played in a single SCF series in 55 years.

Which Leaf fan alive today, wouldn't take SJ 16 playoff round wins seen as failure to Leafs ZERO? :)

I would take neither. I don’t aspire to be San Jose.

We have our next 3 first rounders and a good prospect pool...
That's just it......we don't. A lot of Dubas supporters have been tricked into thinking this is true.

Do we even have 1 of the following in our prospect pool:

Top 6 forward (Robertson and Knies might be)
Top 4 Dman (Neimiela might be)
NHL goaltender (Woll could be)

San Jose in the cap era kept their core players together for 10+ years under one GM, Doug Wilson, and won zero Cups. As a Leaf fan alive today, are you saying the Leafs should or should not follow the San Jose path?

Leicester City escaped a miraculous relegation under Nigel Pearson, against all odds. They subsequently fired him and hired Claudio Ranieri. They then went on to win the Premier in an even more miraculous fashion. Absolutely unbelievable. Makes me think we have ran out of runway.
The structures of European soccer and North American sports are so different that it's difficult to make direct comparisons.

literally just answered your own question, since all prospects have that 'might be' precursor.

It's going to be difficult to move him, holl, Muzzin ( if that's what we want to do etc)

I don't think we're getting out of this off season without dumping a first for cap space.

People acting like there's a lineup for mrazek are pie in the sky thinking. It's a horrific deal
If we do have to pay to move Mrazek, it won't be much. Nowhere near a 1st round pick anyway. There are always teams looking for goaltending and Mrazek has a pretty good track record. Sure he had a bad year but so did Andersen, he got paid as if the bad year didn't even happen. He's only got two years left on his deal too and again he has a good track record, this isn't Hutch we're talking about here.

I believe Muzzin has a NMC.

I'm warming to the idea of moving Nylander. One big reason for doing so is that he only has two years left and resigning him won't be easy. A deal was proposed where we move him for the 2nd overall pick, something like that might make a lot of sense. Top priority is getting a #1 goalie, hard to see us doing that without giving up something good in return or moving someone out to create cap space.

One option:
Sign a UFA goalie, move Nylander to create cap space and if it's futures we get for him, those can be used in other deals to get whatever we need (gritty middle 6 forwards probably).

Another option:
Make a trade (or a series of trades) that ends up with us losing Nylander but having a solid #1 goalie instead.

It is fans and pundits consensus that Jack stole two games. Guys like you just write any s**t that pops into your pea brain, and you don't give a crap even when you know it's patently false.
Those pundits and fans said the Leafs were going to the SC finals. Excuse me, but I will make my own determination. Campbell was fine, even good, but I will not say he stole a game. I also am not saying Vasi stole a game. The only game he played up to the all-star goalie he is was game 7. That win was a total team effort aided by Leafs lack of team effort. People somehow are forgetting, as great performers that they say AM & MM were in the playoffs, they were a combined -6 in the last 5 games. That is not the kind of performance that will take you to the promised land.

No, the quality of prospect is based on their ceiling and the probability of achieving that ceiling (or close to that level). Its why there are farm system/prospect rankings and not just a list that says each team has x amount of players not currently in the NHL...…therefore all teams have the same potential.

Shane Wright might be a #1 Center.....Seymon Der-Arguchintsev might be a #1 Center. If you had Shane Wright.....are you telling me you see them as the same prospect value?
