Just because they made a bad deal doesn’t mean the leafs would. The point would also be the cap space they would With the 3-11 million dollar guys it will be tough to improve either in net or on defence
Agree JT needs to go.

To be fair, despite being screwed by covid and the flat cap, Dubas somehow managed to massively improve our defence anyway and as long as we resign Giordano, I don't think we need any improvement there at all.

In net though, yeah that's the problem and Dubas really needs to solve this problem sooner as opposed to later. I can't be too hard on him I guess because I was really high on Jack after last season and I maybe even give Dubas some credit for not locking him up long term (I admit I thought that he should have).

Solid #1 goalies are hard to find but what can I say, Dubas gets paid the big bucks and it's his job to find one so let's hope he's able to do so.

I don’t get it why some are so afraid to move on from any one of the core players.
obviously because we have them no other team has any of these 4 and yet many other teams over the last 6 years have had way more success then we have. Why is it so mandatory to have all of Matthews, Marner, Tavares and Nylander. How do the other teams build good teams without these 4 players.
the bottom line is we and management tent to over value players way to often.
I’d move on from Nylander without much of a second thought. Way too hot and cold. Tavares is unmovable. No way to Matthew and Marner for me.

If it was possible I woukd move him in a heart beat. I don’t want to lose the other three and that’s what us so frustratin, we can’t move Tavares so we are screwed
We're far from screwed. JT's still a very good player and the fact that he's overpaid now by a couple of million isn't the end of the world, considering some of the other ugly contracts around the league.

Covid & flat cap are not exclusive to only the Leafs

not dumping him either, have to get value back

Shanahan started off by saying there were no excuses… and then he couldn’t even finish the first sentence of the press conference without giving an excuse.
He got sucked into the loser mentality. This cements hes going down with the ship with dubas. Man you wana continue in your roles? Fine. But grow some damn balls and call it like is. Team isnt good enough and needs changes

To not that I think Tavares is necessarily a bad player I just feel his 11 million would have more of an impact if it was used to improve the quality of the rest of the line up

I get the whole media script these guys give to us, there really is no point in tipping your hand to the media, but it's very strange that the message they are sending to fans is that because we tried hard and lost its okay. It's like they think there was improvement because of the way we lost, not understanding that we still lost in the end.

The whole media thing may be fluff but the President doesn't come out and say he's GM and coach will be back, only to turn around later in the off-season and fire them. Which is why Shanny needs to go. What a waste of prime years

So now we have JT overpaid by a few mill, Marner too, Mrazek making 3.8, no #1 goalie, Muzzin on the decline, Mik, kase probably leaving....... First Round Dubas will have have to work hard.

Sure, I don't think anyone would disagree with that.

The only thing that concerns me here is no #1 goalie. Marner was actually worth 11 mill this season (though I agree he should only be making 9), Muzzin played will in the playoffs so not that worried even about him, Mrazek won't be hard to dump if we decide not to keep him and Mik and Kase won't be any harder to replace then it was to replace Hyman last season. Last summer looked like Dubas would have to work hard and he did, and we had our best regular season ever.

The #1 goalie is a HUGE problem though. That's the one thing that really worries me - if we don't have the cap space to pay a really good #1, and if the only solution is to trade Nynalder, and if Dubas won't do it because of misguided loyalty to Nylander ... maybe I'm being unfair to Dubas and just being paranoid here, I sure hope so.

I’ve been thinking that you trade Nylander for. Number one goalie. The one idea that jumps out is Nylander for Gibson. Problem is you only save 800 K on the cap. We have a number one goalie but now need to find two top 6 wingers and some bottom 6 depth.

Does that trade off with a better goalie help? It might. If Gibson plays like he use to.

I don't know who the right goalie is, I just hope Dubas figures it out soon and I am absolutely willing to trade Nylander to make it happen.

Right?! That’s what’s so hard with goalies. We know who the safe goalies are and they aren’t going anywhere. The only two goalies I feel are worth trading for is Gibson and Hellebuyk. Not sure if Hellebuyk is available or not. The others have risks that may work out or just be another Campbell.

Never been more impressed with Spezza than during his presser yesterday. You can see how he's a guy you'd want to go to war with. If he wants to continue playing I would definitely bring him back for league minimum again as rotational depth and veteran leadership.

Spezza wants to only play hockey as a Leaf. He is a guy who loves hockey but loves the Leafs more. I don't like him on the 4th line but if you can find a couple of Corey Perry's to flank him, I'm all in.

I love Spezza too but he slowed down a lot this year and the league has never been faster. I don’t think he has much left if anything, at least on ice.

Agree JT needs to go.

JT just needs to go to the wing, where his speed won't hamper him defensively.

Much like Stamkos, JT hasn't lost his game, he just can't be relied on to carry the line. I'd love to see Marner at C and JT on his wing. If not Marner, we may need to bring someone in.
