ok what center have the Bruins developed lately. Sorry but there is always a case to be made about not rushing a centers development
They haven't really needed to?

They literally had Bergeron and Krejci down the middle for what...15+ years (both Bruins developed btw) and filled 3C/4C with free agents and trades.

This isn't a case where the team is a lotto team and rushing a guy to the league. They gave an established core and culture, perfect situation to learn the game in.

If they send him down for Patrick Brown and Heinen of all people this management deserves hell. At that point just tank the 8-0-1 record and miss the playoffs

It's a valid argument, but....if he stays, I don't think it's because the Bruins are rushing him. I think it'll be because the kid has earned it.
Edit: I dunno why my reply looks this way!

Whatever they decide to do, can they just announce it already? Like there's no chance they're actually still undecided at this point, stop f***ing around and just tell us whether he's staying or not.

Have a feeling they just aren’t going to say anything and let him play the 10th game and let that be the answer.

sure but there is the rookie wall that many hit and then sending him down then hurts confidence and you waste that contract year. The odds of that scenrario happening are likely. no matter how much you try its hard to rush developmemt at that position

Seguin was a year younger
Situation is not really comparable. Sequin started as a 3rd line winger with no expectations, on a deep team. Poitras is playing minutes as a 2C with the expectation to produce. Little bit more under the microscope. But he deserves the chance. And so far has proven he has the mettle to do so. Futures looking good for this kid.

Seguin, the number 2 overall pick, had no expectations?

Sequin's production wasn't needed for that team to succeed. B's had the luxury of putting him on the 3rd line. To bring along slowly. Poitras is being thrust into the top of the lineup. His production will have a lot to say about how good of a year the B's will have. Big difference.

They started him on the third. He worked his way up the lineup.

I know, I was just responding to the poster who was trying to compare the two. I don't think there's a good comparison to be made between the two.

If his production wasn’t needed then why was he on the team? That is a contradiction.

Poitras started as the third line center and has been shuffled around.

I would argue Seguin had way more anticipation and expectations than Poitras.

Great job kid! Stay hungry!

I wonder what all the secrecy was for. Maybe they didn't want him to be distracted and think it was in the bag?

Congrats to Matthew on making NHL at 19.Looking forward to watching kids game grow over time.

It would be a really really bad choice to send him down

As someone else mentioned, whatever they save could be washed out by making the playoffs and the revenue from merch sales having a well liked exciting new player. He makes them better and they have no other good solution for center depth.

Keep the kid, let him work through issues of fatigue, he gets a new contract a bit sooner

Sending him down would show not only how out of touch they are with their fans but would display a worrying sense of the long term and what the team needs to be successful

Hoping his comments are more along the lines of trying to send a message to Poitras that it won’t be easy.
It was about burning a year not dollars, at least in my mind.
