The best part about Murray is that he was literally ran out of Ottawa and they actually paid us to take him… LOL
We don't have to make a decision yet of course, a long way to go and lots could change but at this point, I take Murray as well.Murray reads and tracks the puck better. I have to say the structure of our defense looks good but Murray has made 10 bell saves often in every game.
In 8 games played samsonov has faced 214 shots and in 7 Murray had faced 234
I was thinking today that this looks like it's on it's way to maybe becoming the best trade Dubas has ever made. But is it even correct to call it a trade when they just gave him to us, no they even gave us more assets to take him?The best part about Murray is that he was literally ran out of Ottawa and they actually paid us to take him… LOL
TBF If this keeps up, I wouldn't be opposed to letting Matt Murray play out his last year here.
With Muzzin LTIRetired and the bottom six seeing an influx of ELC prospects(Knies, steeves) and cheap UFAs (connor brown, andreas johnsson anyone?), I think a 1A and 1B scenario for one more year could be optimum.
It doesn't look like Woll or Petrulezzi are ready, and I'd prefer Kallgren as 3rd stringer, not backup.
If Samsonov got around $4M, I think that would be workable.
Then again, there are some interesting UFA G the Leafs could go after as back-up, like Talbot or Reimer.

The defensive structure of the team is great, but the blue line is injured bad and Murray has been the difference on several nights.I disagree I don't think Murray has made 10 saves every, I mean there has been a couple the one at the end of the Minnesota game sticks out.
But he's not doing that every game, he doesn't have to.
Matt Murray has been fantastic but so has the defense
His 3rd cup will be won as a Leaf
hey Ottawa.... Thanks!
I haven't, not sure why anyone would. There were Toronto fans that felt at that time of the trade that (whether Murray succeeds or not), Toronto did not extract enough in terms or retention and or picks.
I wonder if they have changed their position?
Yeah I still feel like we should have squeezed more out of Ottawa for it...but overall happy with having him on the team regardless. Still feel like we should have either gotten more back with him, or they should be retaining more. But it is what it is at this point and as long as he is performing on the ice then all that is secondary.I haven't, not sure why anyone would.
Happy he's here though, he's been great. Better than anyone would have expected.

Oh yeah I definitely don't think it is the end of the world, he is more then worth his cap hit we are covering if he is healthy and performing the way he is. Just my initial feelings were that we likely could have screwed Ottawa more in the situation they were in as they were pretty desperate to clear him out.On one hand I would agree that I had expected a bit more to the deal - like a 2nd or a bit more retention.
That said folks in general get too caught up in the isolated details rather than the bigger picture..the front office clearly wanted part of their goaltending locked in before the start of free agency, and they did (while getting paid to do so) and so far seems to be working out excellently.
Ottawa was (and is still) a terrible team. It's not surprising he had some issues with them lol
The thing I never realized about Murray, is just how big he is.
When he is calm and postionally sound, there is nothing to shoot at.
