Elite talent that started off his career shining with a vet team on the biggest stage and winning rings, followed by injuries and trades until he reaches Toronto and starts playing like himself again with proper rest/support.

Is Matt Murray is the Leafs version of Kawhi?

Experience matters, Murray has the same amount of rings as Vasi and is one of the few goalies in the NHL that has won a playoff round against him (conveniently in 7 games)

The goalie with whom I have been the most impressed is Kevin Woodley After the trade last summer he gave a detailed analysis of Murray, (and a less detailed one on Samsonov), on both TSN and Sportsnet. Woodley provided a great deal of insight into why Murray had struggled and why he was optimistic for his future.

If you can find the podcasts, they are well worth a listen.

Yeah he had a lot of insight into the kind of adjustments Murray was in the middle of and the kind of adjustments Samsonov needed to make but was resisting in Washington.

All hail da new king .. all we can hope for now is he stays injury free to playoffs .. 1st tender i feel we have had since Belfour where we can win in playoffs .. Freddy and Soup were nice guys and Murray is a bit of a d*ck but so was Roy and so was Brodeur .. you don't need NICE guys in dressing room to win .. you need tenders who say FU and ride my back boys

If! And that's a big if! Matt Murray stays healthy, plays as well as he did last night consistently and the team continues to buy in defensively like they have been, then it's not a stretch to think this team will win the Stanley cup.

I don't think I've said that since 93 (we would of won the cup if fraser called the high stick) knock on wood boys and girls

Kawhi was on another level and believed in himself.

Murray has an innate ability to go WALL .. we all saw it with Pens in playoffs .. he always made da key save to keep team in game .. this is exactly what we have been missing

I was one of few people who loved the move of Matt Murray and who was hoping for a deal to get him or Gibson before trade happenning....

Murray is clutch and what you need in playoff, its clutch player who will be able to raise his game under pressure when his team need to...

Andersen was a great goalie but not clutch player and hes struggling under pressure

Campbell was an under average goalie starting goalie

I was disappointed with this trade when it happened; however, I am happy to eat crow. This guy is an absolute unit. I seriously underrated Murray's competitive level. No more Mr. Nice Guys in our goal.
How many crows would you wager have been eaten?

Did anyone support this move? lol

I held off my opinion until we had results to see. I was happy we did not sign Campbell to his 5x5, the 2.8 or whatever it was reported Dubas offered was more his price, as a backup not THE guy.

But Murray seems the real deal. He didn't usurp MAF and win 2 cups with the Penguins because he sucks. Ottawa is a dumpster fire that Patrick Roy would struggle to look good behind.

But the last few games Murray has had that calming shut down presence in games. No weak goal that breaks the team morale like Campbell and the last 10 goalies before him were prone to do. You can feel the door slam shut. Of course injuries will always be a worry. But Samsonov gives me the same confidence. When was the last time we had a solid 1-2, usually its a unproven guy as #1 and then 2-3 random options that made you feel "ahh shit were screwed" when they played.

Ironically, Murray in Pittsburgh was a breath of fresh air because he was replacing a talented but emotionally erratic goalie in Fleury. He was the polar opposite of Fleury mentally. Now he's replacing a talented but emotionally erratic goalie in Campbell.

I actually wanted Matt to come here from Pittsburgh without stopping in Ottawa… therefore, I was thrilled when we got him.

Last night’s game?… never thought we would see playoff game 7 shut them the F down style of goaltending so soon.

Dallas desperately tried everything to get JRob on the scoring sheet… they wanted it so bad.

Last night Murray put on a clinic game… he’s our starter for this year’s playoffs… and I’m ready for this to happen.

Murray has been elite this year so far. It's refreshing to see a goalie stop all of the pucks he's supposed to. I haven't seen this level of play since a healthy Riemer. It's exciting to think that we have the best Goaltending tandem in the league right now.

He has a bit of that F U swagger and energy which is a nice change of pace from no emotion Freddie and nice guy Jack.

Man's playing like he wants to lead a team to the cup. Just need him to keep it up.

He's had a taste of what it's like to be down before. A good motivation to never go back again. Probably the first time in the cap era we have a goalie whose playing like he's hungry.

It's December and our November was better than our October.

Hoping (because that's what we do right?) that Murray does what he was brought in to do and be the difference -- no matter what -- in the first round of the playoffs.

Freddie and Jack had months where they looked next level.

Happily (and hopefully) reserving judgement until we've completed the next level and that Murray has an effect on our club that the others didn't.

Edited to say: That one kill looked like a different Leafs PK unit; Full credit to Sandin -- if that's a function of Murray: Amen.
